Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, January 19, 2019

In what may be the most epic takedown of President Trump since he took office, George Will observes, "It must be misery to awaken to another day of being Donald Trump. ... His childlike ignorance -- preserved by a lifetime of single-minded self-promotion -- concerning governance and economics guarantees that whenever he must interact with experienced and accomplished people, he is as bewildered as a kindergartner at a seminar on string theory. Which is why this fountain of self-refuting boasts ('I have a very good brain') lies so much. He does so less to deceive anyone than to reassure himself. And as balm for his base, which remains oblivious to his likely contempt for them as sheep who can be effortlessly gulled by preposterous fictions. The tungsten strength of his supporters' loyalty is as impressive as his indifference to expanding their numbers."

Not a fan of George Will but apparently he is still an American unlike Donald Trump. I'm quite sure no Russian paid him to write this but I am not sure that anything Trump does is not ordered by Putin.

Georgetown Will is still having a temper tantrum because his beloved GOP establishment and the good old boys was booted out by Trump.

No one is pressured to get on the Never Trump bandwagon.

There's a reason why it is standing-room-only on that bandwagon.

And it has nothing to do with pressure.

The thing about calling Trump names is that all the names are descriptive, accurate. You can't identify a bad thing in a person's behavior or character without (gasp) calling a name. You can be more or less elegant in the name-calling, but there it is.

So I'm going to describe some other people accutately. Those of you who sincerely support Donald Trump are sick and dangerous. Since you, and Trump, won't be coaxed or counseled out of it than you and Trump need to be beaten into surrender by all the force of civilzed society.

Fight and bitch against it all you want. And I'm sure you will.

I think this paragraph of the cited article is important...

...If the country's condition is calibrated simply by economic data -- if, that is, the United States is nothing but an economy -- then the state of the union is good. Except that after two years of unified government under the party that formerly claimed to care about fiscal facts and rectitude, the nation faces a $1 trillion deficit during brisk growth and full employment. Unless the president has forever banished business cycles -- if he has, his modesty would not have prevented him from mentioning it -- the next recession will begin with gargantuan deficits, which will be instructive....

Donald Trump makes me ashamed to be an American.

NO ONE IS KEEPING YOU HERE. It's a free country... you are free to leave at anytime...

only it's not FREE...

To leave America, you generally must prove 5 years of U.S. tax compliance. If you have a net worth greater than $2 million or average annual net income tax for the 5 previous years of $157,000 or more for 2014 (that's tax, not income), you pay an exit tax. It is a capital gain tax as if you sold your property when you left. At least there's an exemption of $680,000 for 2014. Long-term residents giving up a Green Card can be required to pay the tax too.

Now, the State Department interim rule just raised the fee for renunciation of U.S. citizenship to $2,350 from $450. Critics note that it's more than twenty times the average level in other high-income countries. The State Department says it's about demand on their services and all the extra workload they have to process people who are on their way out.

Frankly, I think it's cheaper to stay the next 2 years and see what happens next...

But that's just me... and yes, I am ashamed your an American. I know a whole caravan that's willing to take your place. Just send your check to the State Department.

No, there can't be any more caravans, Donald Trumps seperation of children from their families, harsh treatment in private prisons, etc. has frightened those people in Honduras and Guatemala so badly that they prefer to stay behind and risk being murdered by gangs. And they fear that if they travel all the way here they won't be able to find a ladder because the Great Trump Wall will be insurmountable. Only women who are 8 months pregnant can get over it. And they won't arrest the employers who hire them if they get over so, at least, they know that if they do there will be a job waiting for them.

You "hit" Trump and he locks up and kills little children.

If you didn't try to sneak in you wouldn't be locked up. Of the many thousands of children under USBP care only 2 have died. Both were sick before they went into detention and both went into hospitals for treatment when many American Citizens can't even afford to go. As part of the 5 Billion, Trump wants to buy 56,000 beds so kids don't have to sleep on the floor and pay for additional judges so illegals can be deported in a few days instead of waiting in cages for months.

You "hit" Trump and he takes away your pay.

Only Congress can set up the budget. They can override Trump at anytime with a simple majority vote in both House and Senate. Trump wants pretty much everything that Obama wanted... but he's Trump. Democrat congress is only too happy to punish Trump by taking away your pay.

You "hit" Trump and he tells the enemy where and when you will be (that's not illegal is it?)

Not illegal and Presidents have been doing it since WW1. Notice that he said he is removing troops out of Syria. He's kinda sketchy on were they are going... could be back to America... or could be marching into Iran or Turkey... With 4,000 bases throughout the planet... American's military can be anywhere and everywhere at the same time. While Nukes make a lot of noise. Our military's non-nuclear options are far more effective.

You "hit" Trump and he sends his "Fixer"."

So true... his "fixer" will shower you with money to keep you quiet.

You "hit" the Clinton's and they send their "Fixer".

The "fixer" will shower you with bullets to keep you quiet. That's the difference between parties.

OMG OMG OMG WE ARE LL GONNA DIE... !!!

Sounds like a plot to a cheesy SciFi movie...

Our government has been around for 200 years. In good times and bad. In times much much worse than this and it has survived.

You my friend are a bit confused, thinking money is the ONLY thing driving our government. But how wrong you are.

Right now men and women continue to work without pay. Why? Because they are ordered to? No, these highly skilled individuals can easily find employment in the private sector.

They continue to work because they believe what they are doing is is right and just. They believe what they are doing is good for both our country and our planet.

They believe.... they believe... no not just believe but have the strongest of faith in our country, our government but most importantly, it's people.

It's the exact same faith that carried poor ragged farmers through the cold winter at Valley Forge and gave them the courage to fight the worlds greatest army.

That and thousands of other battles both large and small.

Tomorrow will be a new day and when the sun comes up, you will still find Uncle Sam doing what he does best. Serving the American people because our government just doesn't represent the American people... it is the American people.

A young democrat once said it best..."Ask not what your country can do for you... Ask what you can do for your country..."

Look at those who continue to work without pay and you'll find they still carry the faith.

Americans are many things, even a bit crazy, but most of all we are adaptable.

So have faith my friend, tomorrow will be another day... and should Uncle Sam take off his hat and ask for help, don't be surprised if you find long lines of unpaid volunteers wanting keep things going.

As I said, we are all a bit crazy.

You seem to think that states are more important than people. New York and California have more people than multiples of red states combined. Maybe state electoral value should be measured by their contribution to the Treasury. The opposite of "Taxation Without Representation" is "Representation According to Taxation": I'm OK with that.

Top 10: Federal taxes paid by state
Here are the ten states that pay the most in federal taxes per adult resident:

Connecticut
Adults in this state pay an average of $10,861 in federal taxes, making it the only state to pay over $10,000 a year. In some ways, it's a nice problem to have because they have the highest average income at $60,327.

District of Columbia
Since some of its most prominent residents are also responsible for spending the money, it seems only fitting that they should chip in for a healthy share of the cost. With an average federal tax bill of $10,625, this is the only area besides Connecticut where that figure tops $10,000.

Massachusetts
The average adult pays $9,503 in federal taxes in this wealthy state.

New York
Up to this point, the top three per capita tax bills went along with the top three average incomes. Not so here. New Yorkers earn a bit less than their New Jersey neighbors; but at $8,850, they pay a bit more in taxes.

New Jersey
Residents of New Jersey duck in just under New York with an average tax bill per adult of $8,835.

California
Californians pay the most federal taxes in total, but ranking tenth in per capita income drags its average tax bill per adult down to sixth at $7,424.

Wyoming
There are fewer than half a million adults in Wyoming, but they contribute an average of $7,393 to the federal coffers.

Washington
The average federal tax bill per adult in the state of Washington is $7,112.

Illinois
Another large and fairly wealthy state, residents of Illinois pay $7,005 in federal taxes per year.

New Hampshire
New Hampshire's small population ranked second for percent of adults filing, pushing the $6,977 tax bill per adult well over the national average.

#57 | Posted by WhoDaMan at 2019-01-20 12:37 AM | Reply

On the other hand...

The following states paid the lowest average federal taxes per adult resident:

Mississippi
At $3,024, Mississippi's lowest per capita federal tax bill is less than half the national average of $6,151. This is largely a function of having the lowest per capita income in the nation.

West Virginia
The low average tax per adult of $3,208 is largely a function of having the nation's second-lowest per capita income, but also West Virginia has the lowest tax filing rate of any state in the union.

New Mexico
The average federal taxes paid by residents of New Mexico is $3,600 per year.

Arkansas
Adults in this state actually earn a little less than those in New Mexico, but at $3,677 they have a higher tax bill because, on average, they pay a slightly higher federal income tax rate (possibly because of how deductions and other tax breaks are utilized).

Kentucky
Kentucky has a higher percent of adults filing than Arkansas and a slightly higher income per capita, which contribute to a higher average tax bill for residents of Kentucky at $3,715.

Alabama
Though Alabama ranked 24th in the nation for its adult population of 3.7 million, its residents pay a fairly low $3,749 annually for federal taxes.

South Carolina
Still well below the average federal tax bill, the $3,897 amount residents of South Carolina pay each year is just 12.47% of their annual incomes.

Idaho
Among the states with the lowest adult population and adults filing returns, Idaho's average federal tax paid is only $3,900 per year.

Maine
At $4,084 per year, the tax burden Maine's 1.07 million residents shoulder is edging closer to the national average.

Louisiana
Ranking 25th for adult population and total tax, the federal taxes paid by residents of Louisiana is still low at $4,332 per year.

The Top 10 are all BLUE (with the exception of Wyoming) and the Bottom 10 are all RED.

"OMG OMG OMG WE ARE LL GONNA DIE... !!!

Sounds like a plot to a cheesy SciFi movie..."

Apparently it is the GOP plan. If you cannot have it Your way then

Make America hold its breathe until it passes out.

Great plan.

I am sure no one will get hurt.

You seem to think that states are more important than people.

And you seem to think the overpopulated states on the coasts mean more than the rest of the country.

They have more people. One man one vote. Why should a voter in Iowa have greater weight than one in California? POTUS sets policy for the whole country. Why should he be serving a minority of the population (who collectively pay less taxes than those in the "blue" states)? What is the justification for that? This is not the same country that existed when the Electoral College was invented to protect slavery.

...when the Electoral College was invented to protect slavery, and to insure the rule of moneyed "elites", i.e., rich, educated white guys. Is that who you think should be running the country? Rich, educated white guys?

You are still looking at our country as if it's one conglomerate. We are a federation of SEPARATE states. So what if California overwhelming went for Clinton? We got that. None of that should bleed into other states decisions on who to vote for.No other states cares. Other states have their individual preferences on who to vote for.

"So what if California overwhelming went for Clinton?"

America overwhelmingly went for Clinton. By about 3 million votes.

You don't get to claim America wants Trump's vision, when America voted AGAINST Trump.

Yea, but, if you subtract all of Hillary's votes. Then Trump won the popular vote and no one voted for Hillary at all.

So what if twenty states went for Clinton?

She won twenty states and the popular vote.

Trump barely won 30 desolate states.

Apparently, land is more valuable than humans.

Um, no. California overwhelmingly went for Clinton.

Again, California doesnt represent all of America.

America didnt vote against Trump. On the contrary, the states overwhelmingly went for Trump.

"Um, no."

Um, yes. Consider the population. Not that you care about little things like the will of the people.

America overwhelmingly went for Clinton. By about 3 million votes.

Uh, that's a NO..

But a closer look at the election returns show that Hillary's lead in the popular vote is entirely due to her oversized margin of victory in uber-liberal California. The only reason that Clinton is beating Trump in the overall popular vote is that California gave Clinton a huge margin of victory -- which currently stands at 61% to 33%.

The thing is, California is a very populous and very liberal state -- so far, it has counted more than 10.7 million ballots. As a result, California alone is dumping vast numbers of votes into the Clinton column -- where she currently has 3 million more than Trump.

But what if California's vote was in line with all the other Democratic states, where Clinton beat Trump 53.5% to 40.2%?

If that were the case, Clinton would have received 860,000 fewer votes in California. And if Trump had captured the same share he received in those same Democratic states, he'd have gotten 773,000 more California votes.

In other words, if California was more like the average Democratic state, Trump would currently have a 400,000 vote lead in the nationwide popular vote.

It's no wonder Boxer wants to do away with the Electoral College, since it would let her state decide presidential elections, even if -- as in this election -- the Republican candidate did much better in far more states across the country.

As IBD pointed out in a recent editorial, the Electoral College was specifically designed to prevent candidates from winning the presidency simply by appealing to a few heavily-populated, highly partisan regions of the country. The Electoral College forces candidates to compete nationwide if they want to be president. That's a good thing.

That does nothing to erode her margin of victory, much as you'd like to discount California.

"Uh, that's a NO.."

No, that's a yes. America voted for HRC, by about 3 million votes.

The Electoral College voted for Trump, and that's how presidents are elected.

But it's wrong to say America backs trump, because he was elected. America voted AGAINST Trump, and most of his positions do not have a majority of Americans supporting him.

You people,

Please educate yourselves..

We've all heard Democrats saying how Hillary Clinton got almost 3 million more popular votes than President-elect Donald J. Trump -- and how that shows how he doesn't have a mandate or something, despite clinching 306 Electoral College votes by winning the majority of the states, which is how we decide who will become our next president. I know most of you know that; it's our progressive brethren who need a civics lesson. And you also know that if it weren't for California, Clinton wouldn't have won the plurality of the popular vote. Hence, this is why we don't elect our next leader based on the popular vote since the liberal Northeast and California don't represent the country. Liberals may convince of themselves that it is, but it's not true. Never has been. John Merline wrote in Investors Business Daily that if you remove deep blue California, Trump would have won 1.4 million more popular votes that Clinton

"And you also know that if it weren't for California, Clinton wouldn't have won the plurality of the popular vote. "

Well, let's take away electoral votes from red states covering 10.7 million people, and recount the EC.

"Hillary Clinton got almost 3 million more popular votes than President-elect Donald J. Trump -- and how that shows how he doesn't have a mandate or something"

That's true. Saying "Trump won, so America wants his agenda" is bogus. America clearly DOESN'T want his agenda, as measured both by polls, and the recent mid-term elections.

I dont agree Danforth. But whatever.

There will be no consensus on this, at least between us. I'll continue to be glad of how we elect our Chief executive. And I think it's brilliant our founders put the EC in there. And it's needed.

No, California, whether it's liberal or Republican, should not be elected our President every time just because a bunch of people live there.

"There will be no consensus on this, at least between us. I'll continue to be glad of how we elect our Chief executive. "

I will too. But I won't lie to myself by saying Trump won the EC, therefore America wants Trump's agenda. He lost the popular vote, and has never had a majority supporting him.

"California, whether it's liberal or Republican, should not be elected our President every time"

And it doesn't; the Electoral College does that, and no one state can elect. But 3 million more people wanted HRC's agenda. Polls and the recent elections all underscore that fact.

Look at the wall. Americans don't want it, they blame Trump for the shutdown, and Trump couldn't even get the Republicans to give him money, when he had both houses of Congress.

Speaking of...why did he shut down the US government because the Mexico government wouldn't pay for the wall?

Please educate yourselves..

No amount of "education" will change the fact that Hillary won the popular vote.

Which means the majority of Americans do not support Trump.

Here's some education for you, Boaz.

North Carolina 2016 general election results:

Trump: 2,362,631 (49.8%)

Clinton: 2,189,316 (46.2%)

So. Not even all of North Carolina agrees with Trump.

Matter of fact. Nearly half the voters in North Carolina disagrees with you.

Cry about California all you want.

You're barely in the majority of your own state.

Sad.

#78, so much nonsense in one post.

Look at the wall. Americans don't want it, they blame Trump for the shutdown

I dont agree. Most people I talk to have no problem with the wall and want it. And no one I deal with blames Trump, they see it for what it is. Neither side of government is compromising.

"I dont agree. Most people I talk to have no problem with the wall and want it. "

National poll after national poll after national poll all conclude Americans don't want the wall. That would mean you're talking within your own bubble.

"And no one I deal with blames Trump"

Again, check out every national poll; they ALL blame Trump first and foremost. You're living in a minority bubble.

"Neither side of government is compromising."

It has nothing to do with compromise. Trump shut down the US government because he couldn't get money from the Mexican government.

"so much nonsense in one post."

Too rich. After accusing me of nonsense, you followed up with making easily disprovable claims.

Fox News admitting Trump is responsible for shutdown:
www.inquisitr.com

Fox & Friends imploring folks to get behind the shutdown, and polls showing most Americans are against it:
www.newsweek.com

You live in a bubble. Most Americans are against the wall, and against America paying for it. Most Americans do NOT support Trump's agenda.
