Two sheriff's deputies in Wake County, N.C., say they were fired in retaliation for reporting homophobic, transphobic comments by a colleague – and that colleague has now been promoted. The fired officers, Gray Speight and Steven Williamson, who both held the rank of master deputy, said that in a diversity training session in 2017, Lt. Teddy Patrick said that if he were called to a home where a man was wearing a dress, he wouldn't go into the house, Raleigh TV station WRAL reports. Patrick also said he did not like gay people but could work with them. "It was very unprofessional being that he was a lieutenant and a teacher," Williamson told the station. Speight added, ""He was making statements that were just inappropriate." They also said Patrick outed a gay deputy in the class. Notes from an internal sheriff's department investigation showed that in another training session, Patrick told an Asian employee "that he bet she was good with chopsticks," WRAL reports.

There is no such thing as a good cop.

Patrick told an Asian employee "that he bet she was good with chopsticks

I would take that as a complement. Took me 3 days to learn how to use the fraking things....

The notes indicate that Patrick admitted making the statements. Sheriff Donnie Harrison demoted him from lieutenant to senior investigator.

But Harrison lost the sheriff's race in the November election, and the new sheriff, Gerald Baker, fired Speight and Williamson December 22.

Harrison has been a good Sheriff but he lost because of 287(g) aka. immigration. ACLU advertised against him so thanks ACLU we got rid of a good sheriff and got a homophobe instead!

Our cops are now brain dead, militants who will kill you rather than just do their job.

Does anyone here really need an explanation for the jump in the numbers of cops killed on the job? I avoid police at all costs.

You guys can hate on cops it's a free country but Wake County has not been one of the problem counties you are always reading about. The former sheriff was one of the first in the country to institute body cams and on many occasions both body cams and dashboard cams have been released to the public almost immediately on any incident happening.

If we end up with a thug sheriff with thug cops it's on us now. We voted for this guy when we had a proven great option.
