President Donald Trump is tightening his iron grip on the Republican Party, launching an elaborate effort to stamp out any vestiges of GOP opposition that might embarrass him at the 2020 Republican convention.

"The president's reelection campaign is intent on avoiding the kind of circus that unfolded on the convention floor in 2016, when Never Trump Republicans loudly protested his nomination before a national TV audience.

The effort comes as party elites like Utah Sen. Mitt Romney are openly questioning Trump's fitness for the job, and it's meant to ensure that delegates at next year's convention in Charlotte, N.C., are presidential loyalists -- not anti-Trump activists looking to create a stir.

The campaign is so focused on ensuring the convention is a smooth-running affair devoid of presidential critics that it's building out an entire wing of the campaign devoted solely to the endeavor. The initiative appears to be unique in both how early it's been launched and how far-reaching it is.

The enterprise is part of a broader takeover of the party machinery heading into 2020. Among the Trump team's other steps is incorporating the reelection campaign and the Republican National Committee into a single, streamlined entity -- an unprecedented arrangement."

Criticizing Dear Orange Leader is not allowed in the GOP.

The only good thing that may come of trump is the accelerated death of US enemy #1; the GOP.

I wonder what makes the GOP think Trump is still going to be around for 2020?

There's going to be some powerful stuff coming out of the Mueller and House investigations this year.

Twinpac, it may be that the GOP is forced to hedge by assuming Trump will be around. Because if they cross him and he runs as a third party, Republicans are toast.

Are there any patriotic Americans left in the Republican Party. Doesn't look like there are. Mitt wrote an oped, big deal. Others, like Mattis, resigned in protest. When they brought John Bolton on board people should have recognized the real threat to democracy that existed with Trump.

Line my local Republican Representative, they're dealing with Trump on a day to day basis in order to maximize personal interest.

He has as much actual loyalty to Trump as Trump does to him. When the writing is actually on the wall he'll sell Donald out in a heartbeat.

Part of me can't wait for the convention and what will certainly be spectacular once in a lifetime protests, the other part dreads driving to work each day while that circus is going on here in town.

Trump was great with the nicknames for his opponents; Little Marco, etc.
I think we need a GREAT nickname for him for 2020! "Herr Combover?"

Best hope is that by the time 2020 rolls around Trump has become bored and frustrated with being POTUS and decides not to run for a second term.

#15 - Let's go with "Microscopic Manhood."

There's also talk within the RNC as to how they might avoid even having any presidential primaries so as to prevent the possibly of Trump being "primaried". If they can't actually get 100% support for their dear leader, they would at least like to give the impression that there is.

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to use the GREAT nickname I have for his Orange Holiness in Public.

That is between me and the rest of the Loud Boys.

Trump has finally tasted real power.

Not to mention all the money he's been making screwing over America.

He's not going anywhere without a fight.

Not to mention being president is the only thing keeping him out of prison.

He'll start a war and assassinate people if he thinks it'll get him re elected.

SPEAK

"Not to mention being president is the only thing keeping him out of prison."

He has to get re-elected first. I just don't see how he's going to survive all those investigations. The Democrats are going to land on him like a ton of bricks ~ every single day he has left in office. And there are 24 Republican senators up for re-election in 2020. Do you think they're going to go down with the ship?
