When incoming U.S. congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is sworn into office Thursday, she will use Thomas Jefferson's centuries-old Quran. Some might be shocked that Jefferson owned an English-translated Quran that dates back to 1734.

Thomas Jefferson had a Quran because America was at war with the Barbary states. He needed to study the Quran so he could understand the enemy America was fighting.

Muslims were the enemy of America in Thomas Jefferson's time. They are the enemy of America in our time.

How does it feel that the country is rejecting your bigotry by electing these women? They win, you lose. And they will be but the first of many, God willing.

Jefferson's Koran? That is pretty cool.

Fact is almost all of America's Muslims have assimilated. Europe and Scandinavia have some Islamic extremism problems. In the US Islamic extremism is no bigger of a problem than onther extremist groups.

Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782

Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

Welcome, Madam Speaker.

Adams wrote that to prevent the murder of American sailors by Islamist pirates.

In private he wrote America was a Christian nation granted he likely would have not objected to a civil Muslim being elected to congress.

I cited.

#51 | Posted by YAV at 2019-01-04 09:33 PM | Reply

* It was ratified by the United States Senate unanimously without debate. Adams can say, as any President, what he wishes privately, or even as today, entreat the populace to look to God. It doesn't change a thing. The treaty was to ensure the safety of our ships, with deliberate intention of separating our new Nation from the principles of the religions contrary and antagonistic to each other. Hence "is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion."

Or you can go with "It was expedient to throw God under the bus so we could carry on commercial business." So much for those principles.

I'm good with that, too.

Being an atheist, those words aren't problematic for me, so saying and writing them to saves lives is a non-issue. There is no conflict.

Hence WWJW. Peter may have betrayed Jesus, lions may have killed Christians, English Christians may have executed Jeanne d'Arc, while the French Christians beautified her, so I have no idea what "true" Christians would write.
