Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In the interview broadcast Friday, Cohen spoke about the president and real estate mogul one day after being sentenced to serve three years in federal prison for his actions as Trump's attorney during the 2016 campaign. He says Trump was well aware of his actions to arrange payoffs to adult film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, both of whom said they had affairs with Trump and were paid to keep quiet.

"Asked whether Trump tried to hide what Cohen was doing, the lawyer replied, "Correct." As for whether Trump knew it was illegal, he said, "Of course."

"The truth is, I told the truth. I took responsibility for my actions. And instead of him taking responsibility for his actions, what does he do? He attacks my family."

He added, "Here's the truth: The people of the United States of America -- the people of the world -- don't believe what he's saying. The man doesn't tell the truth. And it's sad that I should take responsibility for his dirty deeds."

Reiterating something he said in court Wednesday, Cohen said he feels unburdened by acknowledging what he did for Trump.

"I have my freedom," he said, adding, "I will not be the villain of his story."

As part of his agreement with prosecutors, Cohen admitted that he lied to Congress when he said negotiations that he and other Trump aides held with powerful Russians about a potential real estate project in Moscow had not continued well into the 2016 presidential campaign.

When asked why the American public should now believe he is telling the truth, Cohen replied, "Because the special counsel [Robert Mueller] stated emphatically that the information that I gave to them was credible and helpful.

"There's a substantial amount of information that they possess that corroborates the fact that I am telling the truth," Cohen said."

... "There's a substantial amount of information that they possess that corroborates the fact that I am telling the truth," Cohen said." ...

When Mr Cohen's apartment and office were subject to a "no-knock" raid, I had thought that the feds were expecting to get a lot of documents.

At the time of the raids, I was not aware that in those documents were tape recordings of conversations that Mr Cohen had with [then] candidate Trump and others in Trump's circle.

If Mr Cohen had taped most (all?) of the conversations he had, Mr Mueller is sitting on quite the cache of evidence.

Cohen is the one who knows best that the "substantial amount of information that they possess that corroborates the fact(s)" exists.... that information is why he plead guilty to lying about things like campaign violations and Moscow hotels.

I have a hard time believing anybody's mea culpa AFTER they get caught. It's way too easy.

Cohen's been living a life of brutal malpractice for 10 years on behalf of Trump and he was more than willing to continue doing so as a member of Trump's administration. There's something insidious about the character of a man who claims an epiphany at this late stage.

I do believe he's telling the truth now but only after getting caught in the myriad of lies he started out with. His 3-year sentence is more of a reward than a punishment.

Cohen isn't being booked on Russian Collusion charges.

For him to record his client and throw his boss to eagerly awaiting wolves... I hope he has to serve the majority of his 3.5 years.

jerk.

Tax fraud

Making false statements to a financial institution

AUNTIE

"Where's that rascally collusion the Dems seem to feast on?"

Cohen is a SDNY (Southern District of New York) case.

Even people in Buffalo Chip, Wyoming know the difference. Why do you continue to make a fool out of yourelf? Maybe you're the one who should "feast" . . . on education before posting.

I have extensive experience dealing with criminal attorneys. as a criminal. I watch this unfold on TV..read posts on sites like this, and find it hard to believe people are that naive. If you are involved in illegal activities, then you have a lawyer that you can talk to. you can talk about anything and do it in such a way that the lawyer doesn't feel you could successfully testify against him, and that's all he cares about. and getting paid. and what I find even harder to believe is that cohen didn't see this coming and bail out nov.9th '16. and all you folks that are hanging your hopes on the fact that there probably isn't a tape of trump asking putin for election assistance..it's gonna' be worse than that. I think everyone is going to be astounded by the financial machinations that mueller is going to reveal.

he was covering his own butt...in light of what's going on with trump, i'd say he made a prudent choice. to talk ethics in the context of a criminal undertaking doesn't make sense.

let Mueller's charges be the judge of this fiasco.

Is Mueller really gonna put a sitting president on trial? doubtful.

this guy has run rampant since Trump held his hand on the bible. I can't wait for the next election cycle. Sincerely. It will be a mudslinging free for all like no other. boy- it will be one for the history books no matter what happens.

You prayed at the altar of money and vanity. And now you don't want to be seen as one of the villains? Good luck with that.

MODER8

I've heard too many recordings of Cohen's threatening phone calls (on behalf of Trump) to believe that the words and the language he used fell within the range of normal legal representation. He sounded and acted like a thug or a mafia muscle man, threatening the life and livelihood of anybody who dared speak out against Trump.

He's still very much a villain in my view and his crocodile tears after the fact are meaningless.

#19 | Posted by Twinpac at 2018-12-15 07:17 PM | Reply

I understand that Cohen was just a vice grip in Mueller's tool box but Cohen's long history of scams and deceit should have earned him more than three years in the pokey. Cohen claims he's accepting responsibility for his actions but in the meantime, he's trying to whittle those three years down as low as he can get it. That's NOT accepting responsibility!

#20 | Posted by Twinpac at 2018-12-15 08:38 PM | Reply

But, he is. Cohen is just another villainous co-conspirator.
