The Kremlin on Tuesday slammed Washington's "undiplomatic" response to its deployment of two bomber planes to Venezuela for exercises. Two Russian long-range strategic bombers landed in Venezuela on Monday for what the Venezuelan government said were air force exercises aimed at strengthening the defence of the leftist-ruled South American country.

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Twitter condemned Russia for "sending bombers halfway around the world." He said the deployment was a case of "two corrupt governments squandering public funds, and squelching liberty and freedom while their people suffer"."

Yeah, because when the US sends bombers half way around the world - we blow some ---- up!

Clownstradamus prediction.

Russia is going to help Venezuela fix their refineries and help them rebuild their economy.

All for a small (big) percentage of their oil exports.

Something we could have done by now. (If we weren't so busy grandstanding about how awful socialism is.)

Russia needs a dependent, not competition in the energy market.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

When America cannot stand on the world stage without being laughed at then someone else will.

Oh no the far right loves Russia and the far left loves Venezuela and they're now realizing how much they have in common.

Nooooooooooooooos!

OK, and how are the bombers going to help them do that? Where in the Western Hemisphere is there any place that it would be ok to bomb? That isn't though, in any way, intended to defend our use of military force in the ME which has been a total disaster for the entire world.

I like to imagine that the Russian bombers were there for a couple sorties to airdrop pallets of cash to the Venezuelan government.

"The Russian and Venezuelan people should see this for what it is: two corrupt governments squandering public funds, and squelching liberty and freedom while their people suffer."

I can't believe Pompeo just called Russia "a corrupt government?"

Where did all the love go?

Well, other countries do the same thing to us and to anyone else who sends any war capable machines close to their borders, especially when it's countries who aren't good friends.

"Answering the accusation of squandering funds, Peskov said "we don't agree with this, what's more it's probably not very appropriate for a country to make such statements when half its defence budget could feed the whole of Africa."

Oops, stupid logic shows up again. Not one person mentioned Russia or Venezuela's money is being wasted instead of taking care of other countries' people. The US stated they aren't taking care of their OWN people and the leader completely ignores that, which is an indirect admission of guilt.

But then, the United States did not just cut pensions for nearly their entire nation. The U.S. is quite rich, Russia is not. And the "left" never really supported the Venezuelan revolution, we did and still do though, object to military force being used to overturn it.

hahahaha. The left always run away and rewrites history when their socialist utopias crash and burn. That's been their history since 1917

It's a response to America for flying ELINT planes over Ukraine as a warning to Russia after they seized the 3 Ukrainian Navy vessels.

Maybe the bromance is over. Maybe Putin can sense that Trump's time is up.

"Maybe the bromance is over. Maybe Putin can sense that Trump's time is up."

He doesn't have to "sense it" when the whole of the United States and every other country on the planet is watching the countdown clock.

IMO, Mr. Putin knows more about what's going on in U.S. politics than we do, considering that Russia has been an inside player for years. It's only become more transparent since Trump became president and Russia made the mistake of thinking that Trump was a sane and competent ally ~ their man in the White House, so to speak.

Probably right about that.

Venezuela needed some wealth redistribution but this guy Maduro is just interested in wielding total power. Chavez before him had some basic goals when he first started which did benefit the people but this thug Maduro is just plain evil.

That's not their justification. They are "protecting ethnic Russians" which really limits their scope. If we're going to play the tit for tat game though, we can run it back through the cold war. This isn't exactly new behavior by either us, nor them.

It's a reminder that Tu-160's can be deployed close to us and first strike the entire eastern seaboard of the US out of existence in 1 volley. Florida is in range the moment they takeoff, New York within 30 minutes. Each one carries 6 Kh55 missiles with 200kt nuclear warheads. The new Kh-101 version is very stealthy.

It's like the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The missiles were withdrawn. The bombers and free fall nuclear weapons stayed. Now it's newer bombers, longer ranges, and cruise missiles.
