Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, December 08, 2018

Earlier this week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put up a tweet so mind-numbingly stupid that calling it "factually incorrect" would be an insult to the word "incorrect." As is to be expected in the social media world, folks on the right ripped her to shreds for it. Take a moment and look at the social media responses bashing her. They are the exact same arguments the politico class made against then-candidate Donald Trump for two straight years, right up until the point he carpet-bombed Hillary Clinton on election night.

Yes, the tweet was incorrect. Yes, it would be nice if the people in our government had some actual knowledge about the things they talk about.

Do not underestimate this woman, and do not think your savage mockery of her stupidity will be an effective tool to stop her. It won't. It will instead be personalized by her supporters, creating an army that will lay down and die for her, just like the army Trump has. You should be afraid of Ocasio-Cortez. Very afraid.

The point of the article is AOC is as dumb as Trump?

At least AOC wasn't born with a golden spoon up her butt like Trump was.

In the end she's actually trying to help the common person.

Gotta say. RoC seems terrified of AOC. He's been posting every hit piece on her he can find.

Must scare him that a poor minority girl has more power that he does. And if she gets anything done, it will be in the benefit of everyone. Instead of his beloved rich.

Hopefully, for RoC, his girl Nancy Pelosi will keep the rich safe while providing lip service to America.

Deflection from what? Your "stellar argument"?

MEMYSELFINI is right. No Trumpublican will view AOC the same as they view Trump. And they'll never understand why they like him so much, despite their blind devotion.

Therefore. As MEMYSELFINI said, "The problem is trying to have this conversation seriously with Trump supporters. The disconnect is amazing."

Meaning, the point the article is trying to make is, "Do not underestimate this woman, and do not think your savage mockery of her stupidity will be an effective tool to stop her. It won't." Won't be heeded by Trumpublicans.

Basically it's a warning to RoC to not underestimate AOC. And it scares him.

He hates her.

As expected the article is right but for the wrong reasons.

So much of political thinking for most people goes as far as "but they do it too" and the ever present "you're a hypocrite because...".

The right lowered the bar massively with Trump. That lack of standards is now, unfortunately, fair game for all.

Second, of course the socialism boogeyman is trotted out while they ignore the fact that she's a populist but, unlike Trump, is genuine. Her ideas will never get implemented as is, models exist for socialistic government that actually works, and people are ready for their tax dollars and government to work for them.

Third, the left underestimating the lack of standards by bloviating, Faux Chreestian, self-righteous righties isn't what's responsible for the rise of Trump. It's the lack of standards by the bloviating, faux Chreestian, self-righteous righties that brought us Trump.

They should take her seriously because the political climate that accepts Trump will allow her to skate, she's actually aligning with the lessons from the Obama years better than the Dems and is genuine instead of using those lessons in a cynical, dishonest way like Trump.

Personally, I'll take an ignorant gaffe factory that shows compassion, empathy and a genuine desire to help people over the Orange sack of ---- you pathetic righties have backed.

They reliably show a complete and utter lack of knowledge of history, civics, science, economics, human nature...

They're just angry, spiteful, pathetic little people who will say whatever is necessary in the moment to support their preconceived notions or, if that's not possible, personally insult a person with some low brow, childish nonsense just to ensure they have the last word.

Your "critique" of the article, apart from calling people on the right stupid and lacking morals, is merely restating what the article is saying: people want their tax dollars to work for them, her socialist leanings will not translate into practical legislation and she appears genuine.

On that I do not disagree, it's when you try to troll that you shoot yourself in the foot.

Truth hurts, don't it?

LOL you're swinging and missing a lot tonight.

I'm saying they got the answer right but their math was wrong.

One of the objectives of the author seemed to be pinning Trump on "libruls", when in reality the right has to own him. The whole thing was a predictable attempt at pinning everything negative on "libruls".

They neglected their own role in normalizing somebody like AOC in order to justify their support of the Orange Turdburglar and his cynical use of populist ideals that are held by a large proportion of the electorate, likely to avoid acknowledging the similarity in their rhetoric but the chasm between their sincerity.

it's when you try to troll that you shoot yourself in the foot.

It does nothing of the sort, it merely says that it is the non-political populace that decides elections, not the people watching Milton Friedman videos dissecting economics, and mastery of social media is now how you win the game. It says that Ocrazio is relatable and genuine and eminently a master of social media. All you got of the article was it somehow blames "libruls" for everything.

What did you do, read the first three paragraphs and stop because you didn't feel like going further because you got angry?

Almost every editorial ends with a pithy line that is supposed to be the take home message.

In this case it's:

Let's hope we smarten up and don't carry her to the White House one day as the left carried Trump.

Did you even read and comprehend your own post?

Underestimating an opponent isn't anywhere close to carrying them. In fact they're not even related.

Also, my second post clearly indicates I a. read it and b. got more than "it somehow blames "libruls" for everything" from it.

Yes, and taking that sentence in context it merely means that the right shouldn't demonize Ocrazio like the left did Trump, since that is what rallied his base...which is the point of the entire article. Somehow you twist that into it the writer saying that Trump is the "libruls" fault, which if you had taken everything in context is not what he is saying.

You're welcome.

Partially. On many of the specifics the right is simplistic and wrong. They just happen to be less wrong than the left on that given topic.

Have you really not noticed that most rational solutions lie between the positions pushed by Dems and positions pushed by Repubs? Are you really so binary and stuck thinking within the confines of the existing dichotomy?

Andrea,

I admit I over simplify. And am an ------- to boot.

I'm just tired of hearing the same tired, failed ideas that only ever benefit the moneyed among us. The Repubs have shown themselves untethered from morals, values, principles and reality in general. You guys have devolved to a state whereby whatever you say in the moment is demanded to be accepted as reality, no matter what contrary evidence is presented.

The Dems are hardly perfect and I've gotten into flame wars with plenty of Hillary supporters because I've been vocal on my thoughts of her candidacy.

But you guys on the right have just gone so far out there it's impossible for a rational person to accept you as legitimate. You guys have truthfully become scary in the utter lack of standards you have and the lengths to which you'll go to deflect, defend or justify the behavior of a man who has no business being POTUS. In the absence of a rational thought pattern or evidence that your ideas have previously succeeded, the only objective explanation is you're a dim bulb and don't get it or you get it and are unscrupulous enough to just not care.
