Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, December 08, 2018

Wednesday afternoon, comedian Kevin Hart was announced as the host for the upcoming 91st annual Academy Awards. By Thursday night, he had stepped down. The turn of events followed outcry over previous anti-gay tweets, and comments Hart made during stand-up routines nearly 10 years ago. Some of the tweets were feverishly deleted throughout the day on Thursday, leading to an Instragram video from the comedian that only made matters worse for him.

Damn, sounds like they need someone super vanilla and non-offensive...like Rob Lowe. No comedian is safe these days.

Just go get Alec Baldwin and have him do the entire show as Donald Trump. I'd watch for the first time ever.

I happened to catch his video on why he chose to pass and I think he did a good job taking the high road.

"Guys, I'm nearly 40 years old. If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify the past, do you. I'm the wrong guy, man."

Perfect. I would welcome him as host because truthful growth is better than fake acceptance. I would applaud him being host, I would applaud him in any venue. Growth is the what it is about, we can't change where we came from but we can change our future. He did.

Bill Cosby should be released. How many of those women admitted they were with him on more than one occasion? Sorry, I hate guys that use drugs to allow themselves to use women's bodies for sexual purposes but if they keep coming back....it's sort of a different story.

Bill said he was so grateful for your support, he wants to take you out to dinner in a few years. He'll supply the Tic Tacs.

Oh well. If things like the Oscars get trashed because nobody is pure enough to host them then oh well.

We can all laugh then when they complain that he Oscars were cancelled.

Had a few cups of coffee this morning and in an inspired moment, I nominate Nick Offerman for consideration. I've seen him on stage twice and he mostly uses social media to sell his woodworking business.

The downside is if they're looking for a host that brings social media cache to the table with likes/tweets/etc, but he is hilarious on tour and has great stage presence.

Thanks for pointing that out to me - long overdue for a correction on mixing up those words.

Let's face it. They didn't want a black man hosting the Oscars. They looked for a reason to can him and found it. Let's see who mighty whitey picks to host this racist event? Steve Bannon?

Yeah, it's not like we have a couple decades of precedent to look back on of ANYONE making any statement that can be taken offensively and being admonished for it. Using the race card when there is clearly a TON of evidence that proves the contrary only makes you the racist.

Why are people acting so dense about this?

• Kevin Hart told some jokes where the punchline is that he wouldn't want a gay son. Nobody really gives a ---- about what Kevin Hart thinks so it got ignored.
• Kevin Hart tweets daily for two years calling people ---- and -------. Just because you used to say it back then too doesn't mean it was ok, just that you were ignorant at the time.
• Kevin Hart says multiple times seemingly not in comedy formula or for some reason devoid of any set up or punch lines that he would hit his son if he caught him playing with dolls. Really, not cool.
• Kevin Hart gets called on it, and in a RS interview in 2015 says he wouldn't say those jokes anymore because "people get too offended these days" but THEN in the same article proceeds to say he would be a failure of a father if his son turned out gay. Keep in mind fathers have no ability to change their child's sexuality once determined. Kevin's statement only works if you think gay people are lesser anyway. Failed as a father? So gay children are inherently failures? Pretty ------.
• For some reason people took the above 2015 as an apology? Despite him not apologising. Around that time he also got dragged for his movie Get Hard which had some reaaally questionable jokes but hey it's a dumb comedy so nobody really gives a ----.
• Kevin Hart gets hired to host the Oscars. People remember the ---- he said and didn't apologise for, so they bring it back and a whole new audience sees his tweets and so-called "jokes". There is backlash and the Oscars give him a call and say hey we still want you to host but please apologise for those tweets, we have a big LGBT following and it's not a good look.
• Kevin says he'll "pass on the apology" because he "already addressed it" (not apology) and he says people should just focus on positivity and be happy for him. He didn't express any positivity towards gay people up until that point so you can see why gay people may not want to send any positivity his way.
• Kevin "triumphantly" steps down from hosting and reddit says he's a champion of free speech and that he should've kept the job (that he wasn't fired from) because "---- outrage culture".

What the hell?
