Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A brute-force power grab by Republicans in Wisconsin highlights the disregard for democracy that has infected the party of Lincoln. ... The Republican Party has stopped progressing. Indeed, it has regressed so thoroughly that it is now anathema to its founding self. Today's Republican Party -- in Wisconsin, Michigan, and other states where lame-duck legislative sessions have been used to undermine the authority of duly elected Democratic governors, attorneys general, and secretaries of state -- is coming to embody what the first Republicans opposed in a national platform that decried "the spurious and pretended legislative, judicial, and executive officers" who in the 1850s "usurped authority" and enacted "tyrannical and unconstitutional laws." The Republican Party is no longer the "Party of Lincoln."

The concept of the "lame duck" session is entirely undemocratic.

If you're greedy and you know it join the GOP. (Could be a kids song.)

If you're greedy and you know it, you're probably already in the GOP.

The GOP is a sewer.

Aside from the fact that conspiracies operate in secret, and the GOP is openly attempting to seize power, sure.

Legislative might makes right, in the eyes of the GOP.

Just like Financial might makes right, in the eyes of the GOP.

The two are joined at the hip, as a matter of fact.

"The Republican Party has become a conspiracy to seize power."

That's been the plan from the beginning hasn't it? Starting at the national level it's metastasized like a cancer to state, district and local levels.

The short story? Trump is the carrier of an infectious disease that he hopes will gain him enormous wealth and unfathomable world power.

Republican friends I have known for years, are almost to a person, comfortable with what the GOP is doing here in Wisconsin and in other states.

I totally recognize that, I know many myself. I'll just say this about them, many have pictures of Republican Presidents on their walls and none of them ever showed up to protest any war. To them, life is a business, and if it requires that they support the GOP then that is just the price you have to pay for success. That's the truth. I've had discussions with them about issues of war and peace, justice, etc. They are generally intelligent but selectively ignorant on almost every issue where the GOP stands on the wrong side of history. Intelligent people, lawyers, business people, doctors are so ignorant about current events that it is ridiculous and their adherence to Republican talking points is ridiculous.

All the gerrymandering and voter suppression was done in secret, or as secret as they possibly could. Legislatively hobbling the incoming Democrats is just one leg of the "conspiracy".

Tried the same thing in NC but were for the most part blocked by the courts and the voters.

It was so bad several former GOP governors lobbied against their mechanizations.

These types of hate-inducing articles should be banned by any reputable site. It's a small shame they aren't but it's a HUGE shame that there are still people who use this to spread the hate. Go to Google, type in "Democrats want power" or "Republicans want power" and go through many of the pages, not just the first couple that only have recent headlines. It's so ridiculously easy for anyone to see how these articles are put up all the time and have been for decades. If you are a Dem, then Reps want power and are abusing their power. If you are a Rep, then Dems want power and are abusing their power. Heck, one of the first ones that came up when I Googled Democrats want power is an article about how Dems are doing a big power grab in NJ.

Of course, whatever side you are on you will just refuse to believe the other side's media so it really doesn't matter. Just, when you really get a feeling that America is bad and we are sliding downhill, make sure you point your finger at yourself as much as you point it at other people.

Get out of here with that "both sides" propoganda.

The article isn't hate inducing. Repubs trying to thwart democracy is hate inducing. The article is simply informing voters about what they're doing. And decent people everywhere should be induced to hate what is happening.

INDECENT people are induced to pretend it's a "both sides" situation.

Yeah that's why most of the country votes for dems, but repubs are still in power.

Your side cant govern, it's just really good a cheating the system.

Congrats on defeating democracy.

Now get back to the other thread youre running from and tell us how your "states rights" system would handle one state pouring pollution into another state.

Nowadays, if it calls out Republicans is is hate speech. Sorry but it is what it is but it isn't hate speech, it's more like tht truth. The Republican Party today earns our hatred every day with thing such as the topic of this thread. The Republican Party is evil and you can pretend otherwise because you are part of it but it is still the truth. If that means you are evil too well, it's your choice to be a member of it. Personally, no amount of money could pay me to sell my soul. None of the Fox News talking heads can say that honestly.
