Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, December 05, 2018

In contrast with leaders seated around them, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump did not recite the Apostles' Creed -- a common statement in Christianity -- at the Washington, D.C. funeral for late President George H.W. Bush on Wednesday. Video of the funeral showed former President Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former President Jimmy Carter, former first lady Rosalynn Carter and Vice President Mike Pence, among others, reciting the Apostles' Creed during the funeral. The Trumps, meanwhile, silently held their sheets as others recited the creed, which begins: "I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of Heaven and Earth."

W is a dry drunk, Obama adopted Christianity, Clinton has been feuding with God since he was a child, and Carter is in his 90s. Yet they have no problem reading the Apostles Creed or singing hymns. Trump is completely unfamiliar with the concept of the Apostles Creed and church music.

Interesting to have a president that's neither an actual or cultural Christian. I understand some people have been anticipating this day.

He also pretends to be a successsful businessman, for the same reasons.

I'd wager a higher percentage of self-proclaimed Christians fell for his Christian ruse than did self-proclaimed atheists. For example, every single anti-abortion Evangelical.

Actually I'd wager a lot of Trump's evangelicals didn't really fall for it, they're just single issue abortion voters.

You are consistent but in kind of a bizarre way. You seem to embrace Soviet Communism and other Socialist governments yet you also seem to embrace religion, particularly Christianity.

What is most impressive is your ability to precipitate a flame-war any time you want. It's "-----------" level.

Your ability to initiate a flame-war may put you in the DR Hall of Fame - I am not sure I've ever seen another DR poster summon a flame-war with the ease in which you seem to do it.

Secular Humanism is opposed to all varieties of belief that seek supernatural sanction for their values or espouse rule by dictatorship.

But any atheist or secular humanist worth his salt can leave other people alone to practice their beliefs in any way they see fit, even Trump.

Definitely. As is that idea of "compassion." Coming to you when you're vulnerable, promising that if something happens and you die, you can live forever - if you accept what they believe over what you believe, is comforting.

As if Atheists don't have empathy, love, caring, concern. As if the only thing that matters when you're suffering is a promise of living forever. Not making you comfortable. Not listening. Not being there, human to human.

It's not just troublesome. It's genuinely sad.

"Who cares? Oh, TDS'ers again."

I don't care that he didn't recite the creed. It's actualky more honest than if he had read it. The thing that bothered me was that he sat there like a five year old, continually shifting, leaning forward, and pouting. It was probably the longest amount of time he had to sit quietly without getting to listen to someone talk about him in decades. I know expecting him to show a little class and self control is too much for him, even at the funeral of a former president.

I couldn't care less if Trump recites the Apostles Creed or prays in any way but I do have to wonder why the incredibly stupid Evangelical Christians think he is one of them.
I don't care about any President's religion unless they are a member of a cult but I do object to using pretend religious devotion as a tool in politics.

With all those barbs and arrows directed at him during the eulogies, I'm surprised he sat there for the whole service. Unless his brain is made of mush, he HAD to get those very pointed comparisons.

Was Trump steaming with anger over George W's handshake snub? He tried to act like he didn't notice but once again . . . mush for brains if he didn't.

What did you think all atheists were going to be wonderful people once they rejected religion? Most just replace it with materialism.

Many Christians in this country are rapaciously materialist. They treat the biggest Christian holiday as an excuse to consume, consume, consume.

The idea "most" atheists are materialist is ridiculous. Atheists are just as capable of being wonderful people as theists. Nobody needs a spirit in the sky to follow the Golden Rule.

The true idiots think we are laughing at the media when we are really laughing at them. Pretending the media is lined up against Trump ignores the facts about Trump behavior and comments. Does the media force him to stay up late and tween idiotic thoughts? But he's President, isn't it their journalistic duty to report on it?
Is reporting what he says or tweets actually discrimination against him because he is a Republican? That's just stupid and naive and totally Trumpish.

Most Atheists I know are more ethical than most theists I know. They have an internal compass and empathy and compassion. They don't need a 2000 year old book threatening death by fire to keep them from harming their fellow man.

No we don't. We give up the Calvinist ideas that God rewards the most religious among us which is total crap. That thought is probably the biggest reason I left religion and will never return, all religions are man-made not God-made. That is the simple truth which is inescapable. That's why I consider myself agnostic. Some days I do believe there is a higher power but other days I can't conceive of a higher power allowing the suffering that happens on this planet.

Which is the cause of more evil?

the atheist saying I alone am responsible for my actions

or the theist who says I can do whatever I want and as long as I repent on my death bed the sky fairy will take me to heaven anyway?

atheists don't have a get out of hell free card that allows them to do evil without any real consequences

[snip] "By insisting on his successor's inclusion in the proceedings, Bush forced the current White House occupant to briefly abandon his unfrozen cave-man act, denying him the chance to further debase the office of president by siphoning the dignity out of 41's final hours in D.C. -- something 45 likely would have relished, given the opportunity."

No assumptions necessary. Asserting meaning (by asserting a content laden religious worldview) is not the same as denying meaning (nihilism). It's the actual opposite. To assert otherwise is sophistry. Welcome to Alex's sad little club.

To be adored, regardless. Little Boots will dance and trample in his Jedi mind-scoot boogie, the weak kneel and flummox in the face of their "true" ideals. There is no greater living, hating idol. His ragewarriors will defend his honor if allowed to rally, imo. "Who nihil's for the widows son if nobody in the forest can clap?"

He has nihilistic, non-informed views on most things and an extremely narrow fanaticism with extremely specific things such as gouging through tariffs as another distraction to monetizing the government at every degree while grooming the parasitic elitist status-quo - that is his sophistry. The tax cuts will re-patriate, the jobs are coming back, "you'll be so tired of winning". Otherwise, he doesn't know what a milk farm is, or how much a gallon costs, very much a Bill Gates lifestyle in that regard. How the Christian community can embrace this a-hat is beyond reasoning. They know he isn't anything like "Christian" in his views, behavior or future views and behavior. In fact, his policy enacted has demonstrated the absolute worse elements of this nationalist Hitlerian liemonger. That sounds German - Liemonger. Would fishnet stockings and a bowlcut disguise his grotesquely Super Mario fake agenda? "How in the HELL are you going to LOVE someone ELSE?!! AAMMMMEEEEENNNN!!!!!", she screams, choking on gold glitter.

No one, should be forced to recite the Apostles Creed
Secular Humanism is opposed to all varieties of belief that seek supernatural sanction for their values or espouse rule by dictatorship.
But any atheist or secular humanist worth his salt can leave other people alone to practice their beliefs in any way they see fit, even Trump.

I do hate religion because it is all just another way people control each other. The biblical church is not a building or a place. If you look around you can find one pastor claiming they and they alone have the path to heaven and you have to do this that and the other thing and across the street there is another pastor claiming they and they alone have the path to heaven and if you do this that and the other thing you will burn in hell. I left the church forever when my Missouri Synod Pastor was reprimanded for serving communion to gasp! an ALCS Lutheran!! The horror! That is when I realized once and for all that pastors and priests are just men who don't know the mind of god any more than I do.

If I have read and understood my Scriptures right I would suspect They would want us to show Love and Kindness and Caring for the less fortunate among us 7/24/365 days a year.

And maybe even twice on Sunday.
