Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Since being fired by Donald Trump in August of 2017, Steve Bannon has been busy speaking at different conferences. Some of these conferences are staples for Republican figures while others are just plain weird. The weirdest conference of all was the 4th International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots. Bannon was tabbed to become the Keynote speaker at the ACE conference which was merged with the robot sex conference. And NO, this is NOT an article from The Onion.

Steve Bannon Causes Robot Sex Conference to Be Cancelled After Protests Erupt

My, how the once mighty have fallen.

Can't even speak at a robot sex conference.

Maybe snippy or fishpaw can speak instead.

Rumor has it that they've reserved space in the vendors' showcase.

This is a fantastic thread, Hans.

I love how utterly toxic Bannon has become.

It is poetic justice that deliberately creating a platform for the alt-right has consequences.

That his potential presence at a sex robot conference lead to the event being cancelled due to his toxicity is absolutely hilarious.

Didn't he recently have some kind of paid speaking engagement that drew like 7 people?

Apparently there's an opening for a speaker at a robot sex conference in Montana since they iced out Steve Bannon, or as he's known by his nom de bot, "RealDollFan69XXX"

Thanks, JeffJ.

Your observations are spot-on, especially:

"It is poetic justice that deliberately creating a platform for the alt-right has consequences."

Hans,

If you have the stomach for it you should read David French's (conservative writer at NRO) accounting of his experiences with the alt-right. It's harrowing stuff. Bannon is getting everything he deserves for courting that vile filth.

Hans,

Be forewarned, this is really unsettling:

Thanks for sharing that, JeffJ.

You're right, it is unsettling.

And this, from the article, really underscores the message:

Every campaign attracts its share of fools, cranks, and crazies. But Trump's candidacy has weaponized them. Every harassing tweet and every violent threat is like a voice whispering in my ear, telling me to do all that I can to oppose a movement that breeds and exploits such reckless hate.
It underscores why so many life-long Republicans and conservatives, people like the writer, David French, and Rick Wilson (mentioned in the article) and Max Boot and Bill Kristol, all strongly oppose Trump and what he's done, even if they might agree with some of the policies he's been behind.

I've purposefully excluded any sitting GOP US Senator in that list because, despite their condemnations of Trump (Flake, Corker, Sasse, etc.), their voting record belies their words.

Very newsworthy post, Hans. It inspired me to pick up my signed copy of Rick Wilson's book and resume reading it tonight.

what he's done, even if they might agree with some of the policies he's been behind.

That bit of wisdom bears repeating. It's something I really need to keep in mind when I regard excessive Trump criticisms as unhinged. He's a shitty person. I don't think any honest conservative can say that about Obama. In spite of his terribly damaging presidency (I'm obviously no fan of Obama but I think Bush's presidency was far more damaging), I don't think any honest liberal can say that about George W Bush, as a person.

"In spite of his terribly damaging presidency (I'm obviously no fan of Obama but I think Bush's presidency was far more damaging),"

You mean the Presidency when he rebuilt the economy Bush destroyed? Or the one when he created the healthcare reforms even Republicans, who hated him, can't and won't just repeal because they benefit too many of their constituents? Or perhaps the Consumer Protection Agency which, just yesterday, I heard had uncovered large numbers of unnecessary foreclosures by our old friend Wells Fargo because of an error in their computer programming? Our nation was far more respected in the world under Obama than under Trump and that isn't even debatable.

Calling Trump a "------ person" is the understatement of the year. Even before he became president I thought he was the worst famous person in America who hadn't killed somebody. He has so many of the worse traits a human can possess that it's hard to wrap my head around it.

Bush 41 had a core of fundamental human decency and empathy, even if some of his decisions in political life did not embody those values. I'd say the same about his son, though man does he have a lot of reason to feel guilty about the wars he began and the millions of lives they cost.
