Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

When the 37-year-old Chinese woman stepped over China's border into Kazakhstan last July, she felt free. The woman -- who doesn't want NPR to use her name for fear of retaliation by Chinese authorities -- says after her husband died in 2015, she was left with two children, a tiny house in the countryside of China's Xinjiang region, and little else. She despaired of her future. Then she met the man who changed her life. Like her, he was an ethnic Kazakh. Unlike her, he was a citizen of Kazakhstan, from across the border. They married last summer, and she and her children left China. They moved to a small town outside Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, and the children enrolled in Kazakh schools. When she crossed back alone into Xinjiang last year, the problems began.

The people who want the government to make women's reproductive choices for them...

Are the same people who feign outrage when the government makes women's reproductive choices for them.

What in the f is that?
Why, it's the Grand Old Party!

There is no Grand Old Party in China.

We let American billionaires and corporations take advantage of cheap labor in China to take away good paying jobs for Americans. I've been screaming about it since my first days on this site and I also have told you it is dangerous for our military to have components for aircraft and missiles made there. Now the EVIL Chinese government is attacking Uigher citizens and those who didn't oppose our support for China over the last 30 years are speaking up. Too little, too late.

And yet Liberals like you support China's trade policies. Trump tries to get things going in the right direction and you do nothing but whine and complain about it. He may not be providing fixes for every problem but at least he tries to get the ball rolling and bring attention to the problem, and Liberals bash him for it. Obviously that is just partisan hate at work and not logical thought but it still sucks.

#3 | Posted by GOnoles,Yes there is a grand ol'party in China- it is called the Communist Party. Something to consider. Under authoritarian collectivism the individual is granted rights by the government. This includes if you can have children or not, or requires you to participate in a hell like "The Great Leap Forward" or the insanity of "The Cultural Revolution". Unlimited government can do unlimited harm.

No I don't and never have.

"Trump tries to get things going in the right direction and you do nothing but whine and complain about it."

I've supported tariffs on China since long before Trump proposed them. However, he is doing the completely wrong. It needs to come from Congress so that the tariffs will lst longer than Trump's Presidency. I have never supported unfettered free trade. Never will. But those efforts to end unfettered free trade need to be very carefully and intelligently done, Trump has tried to operate like a bull in a china shop. That won't work and will harm our economy in ways we don't even understand yet.

I don't usually agree with DOCNJO but I did with his last post #16. China is totally governed by the Communist Party yet we act surprised when they are brutal to their people, irrational in their decisions, dangerous to the world.

It's not irrational if you're the one in power.

FTR... Nixon a republicl*wn... opened the trade with China...

Honestly...I don't have a problem with China... and at least a dozen other places being the worlds factory for most things... Prior to that treaty between China and USA et al... 70% of the worlds population was starving... now... that is no longer the case..worldwide...economically speaking globalization has solved more problems than it has created.

That being said... only a pack of idiots would have any part of their arsenal created there... for obvious reasons...

The problem of "good paying jobs" is NOT a matter of factory jobs being sent to China India,Mexico or any of the other international factory states... it is greedy corporations dressed up as smaller franchises being unwilling to pay a living wage in the US.

The whole blaming China and vilifying China for taking advantage of an economic opportunity that was handed to them is not sane thinking.

# 23... I agree in a pinch

If you are going to get mad at someone for gutting the US workforce start with the tech industry... computers... robotics took as many jobs.

If the factories came back they would be automated.

takehum,

Is your notion of Trump moving in the right direction extracting licensing and trademarks for Ivanka, or importing Hungarians to work at Mar-a -Lago, or kissing Putin's and Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's ---? Trump has brought laziness, stupidity and personal greed to the White House in a manner we haven't seen since Agnew was sent packing in disgrace.
