Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Mexico's new president has unveiled a plan to address US-bound migration, signing an agreement with Central American leaders within hours of donning the presidential sash. In a deal that will likely delight Donald Trump, Mr Lopez Obrador agreed with the presidents of Honduras and Guatemala, and the vice-president of El Salvador, to create a fund to stem the US-bound flows of migrants. The Foreign Ministry said Saturday that the plan includes a fund to generate jobs in the region, control Mexico's southern border and aims to attack the structural causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Leaders of the four countries have agreed to ask their finance ministries, in the first quarter of 2019, to come up with a plan which includes "programmes, projects, and specific actions, for the sake of jobs generation and poverty fight in the region."

What garbage. If Christians were really Christ like they would be down at the border with their road worthy church buses and take them to their communities and get them settled.

Looks like Mexico is coming to grips with the fact that economic migration is no longer just a problem for the US, but for them as well.

It will be interesting to see what they plan to do in the south, since that region is not much more advanced than its neighbors, with endemic poverty and limited industry throughout the area.

Laura, you and your open border colleagues can do just the same, yet here you complaining about what others won't do.

The real issue is one of moral hazard.

To Nullis point, there will never enough buses once you start. These caravans are a direct result of having a pourous border, they only get bigger. More children will suffer...

Why Migrants Flee Central America

Pervasive violence and poverty drive desperate Central Americans to migrate in search of safety and a better life.

"These caravans are a direct result of having a pourous border..."

That would make sense if the caravan was attempting to enter via the porous border.

But they're not. They're attempting to enter through a place of entry and seek asylum.

Kinda like the Jews trying to escape Nazi Europe.

Nulli and you would be standing on Ellis Island shouting about how ungrateful they are for German ovens.

I recall people cliaming they were 1000 miles from the border, nothing to worry about..

I recall them throwing rocks at BP a week later. Getting tear gassed.

Not exactly seeking asylum is it .

Nothing the OpenBorder crowd has said about the caravan has been true..

Besides they aren't attempting seek asylum, they could have done that in Mexico City.

No, it won't be long now before they are caught attempting to cross the border illegally.

But I prefer to back up my statements ....

Here is Chris Matthews :

MATTHEWS: There's a lot of poverty south of our border. All the way down to Tierra del Fuego, there's two-thirds of a billion people living down there. A lot of them are poor, desperately poor. Living in countries where there's no freedom at all, and danger. So how do we regulate honestly, in an American way, acceptance of asylum seekers? How do we develop a profound, comprehensive immigration policy that we are proud of as Americans to enforce? Because at some point there is going to have to be enforcement.

(....)

FRANCO: I do a lot of Spanish television, and I see these interviews and they're heart breaking. There are people looking for jobs. That's not a basis to seek political asylum.

MATTHEWS: I know that. That's the law.

(....)

TANDEN: His whole focus is actually not to solve this problem. It's to demagogue the issue --

MATTHEWS: So you're saying, I guess, let them in, let them in, give them asylum processing.
www.newsbusters.org

They aren't being persecuted, there may be danger, but most; if not all are just looking for jobs.

Insane .... As I stated above, its just going to get worse if you let these emigrants in "unregulated"... everyone knows this ...

Andreà. As typical. Has nothing but lies and fearmongering xenophobia.

The caravans have been a fairly common tactic for years among advocacy groups to bring attention to Central American citizens seeking asylum in the U.S. to escape political persecution or criminal threats from gangs.

But the latest one drew more attention because Trump's attention from almost the moment it began March 25 in the Mexican city of Tapachula, near the Guatemalan border. And while it slowly traveled across Mexico. Trump used it as an example to try to win more support for his planned border wall -- even though the asylum-seekers plan to turn themselves in to border inspectors.

Yep...

Why Migrants Flee Central America

Pervasive violence and poverty drive desperate Central Americans to migrate in search of safety and a better life.

[snip] Crushing poverty. Endemic crime. Gang-related violence, extortion and forced recruitment. High rates of domestic violence and sexual abuse of girls. Scarce social services. Limited opportunities to learn, or to earn a living. The desire of children to be with their parents, who are already working in the U.S.

These are the conditions that prompt men, women and children to abandon their homes and embark on dangerous journeys to destinations to the north and south.

George H.W. Bush successfully disavowed any knowledge of The Enterprise, despite being Oliver North's mentor, and went on to the Presidency. During his last days in office, he pardoned 6 people convicted in the Iran-Contra affair -- including Caspar Weinberger, Reagan's Secretary of Defense.

The Contra movement ultimately disbanded, and the roughly 23,000 armed and trained members melded back into the general population. Some went on to other criminal organizations, some passed on their weapons, some migrated into El Salvador and Honduras. All those AK-47s supplied by The Enterprise didn't just disappear -- they diffused throughout the region.

To bring this grand loop to a close today:

George H.W. Bush died at a ripe old age last night, and will soon lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

Oliver North is the President of the National Rifle Association, after 20 years of being a prominent right-wing author and commentator.

The government of Nicaragua never achieved stability, and crime and poverty are widespread in Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador -- enough so that thousands of refugees have fled the region and formed...

Caravans.

Mustang actually had it right for once. The point is that you can't be like Christ while in the flesh. That was the point of the entire OT Law; that you couldn't meet the requirements of the Law. That was the point of the Christ, that he was the sacrifice and the atonement for the sins you would always commit; that as Jesus said if you even thought something evil, that is a sin, so you can't not sin in some ways. That was the point of Paul, who said that our good deeds are as "dirty rags".

" And while they are often referred to as asylum-seekers, few of the migrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador – the chief sending countries – are likely to end up winning asylum in the U.S., according to the study by academics at the National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE) at the University of Southern California, and the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Adults are most likely to come for better jobs, the researchers said. They can improve their incomes by 1,200 percent in moving from Central America to the U.S. Children, meanwhile, are coming for economic opportunities but also to reunite with family already in the U.S., they concluded.

"The standard wisdom [that] it's all about violence could not be supported by our data," said Detlof von Winterfeldt, a researcher at CREATE.
