Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, November 20, 2018

On Sunday, delegates of the general assembly of Interpol -- the International Criminal Police Organization, the coordinating body for law enforcement from 192 countries -- met in Dubai for their 87th annual session. The most important agenda item will come on the final day: on Wednesday, delegates will elect the organization's new president to replace Meng Hongwei, who went missing in China in October. (The Chinese authorities later announced that Meng had been arrested on "corruption charges," and sent what was purported to be his resignation letter to the agency's headquarters in Lyon, France.) The leading candidate to become the next president of Interpol is Alexander Prokopchuk, a police general in the Russian Interior Ministry who has for the past seven years headed Interpol's Russian bureau.

"Prokopchuk's candidacy was kept under wraps until the last moment -- and, presumably, until the Kremlin was confident of securing enough votes. The British government has determined that Prokopchuk's victory is assured to the extent that "there is no point in trying to stop him."

A British human rights group, Fair Trials, wrote to the Interpol secretariat strongly protesting the nomination and noting that "it would not be appropriate for a country with a record of violations of Interpol's rules (for example by frequently seeking to use its systems to disseminate politically motivated alerts) to be given a leadership role in a key oversight institution."

Senators push back on Russian official's candidacy for Interpol president

192 countries will vote to confirm Putin's nomination? The world is sicker than I thought. We have a powerful voice internationally, why aren't we using it to prevent this disaster from happening? Oh yeah, Trump. Historically, he will be viewed as the worst disaster ever to punch America in the face.
BTW, just yesterday, I dealt with the tariffs coming Jan. 1. Trump's great economy is going into the toilet in about 45 days. Stock market knows it, housing market is starting to understand it and consumers will realize it by mid-January. Products my company sells were just hit with a 30% price increase. Items we buy from overseas will be hit with 25% tariffs.

Thanks 1947, I'm posting this so everyone can see that you are correct. Thankfully!

"'Reason prevails' as South Korean becomes Interpol president over Russian candidate"

Ok, can Liberals please choose a side and actually stick with it? Is it OK for Russia to be an independent country and protect their own interests or are they a corrupt country that should not have any seat at any foreign assembly? It's hard to keep track of what side Liberals are on when it changes regularly. If we go by events within the last 10 years, Liberals side with Russia and say they have a right to protect their interests whenever Republicans try to block them but then call Russia a corrupt regime whenever they do something that Liberals don't agree with.

Also, I guess the fact that a South Korean won really squashes this fear tactic article. Sad that partisan hate just continues unabated.

"Okay will Liberals please choose a side? They keep saying 'don't feed the bears' but as soon as a bear gets inside a public space they want to call animal control and intervene. Which is it? Its okay to ignore the bears or bears are dangerous animals that humans need to manipulate?"

"Putin critics rejoice at Russia's defeat in Interpol presidency bid

Moscow (CNN)Opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a collective cheer Wednesday, after Kim Jong Yang of the Republic of Korea was elected the new president of the international police agency Interpol at a meeting in Dubai.

The president of Interpol is not in charge of the organization's day-to-day operations. But the collective decision to pass over a Russian police general for the post is being cast as a victory in efforts to roll back Russia's rising international influence.

The reason? The selection of a new Interpol chief had become a new arena for a showdown between Russia and the West. The candidacy of former Russian Interior Ministry official Alexander Prokopchuk raised concerns in Washington and Western capitals about a broader agenda by Moscow to bolster its ability to target its political opponents."

China disappeared the former Interpol Pres just two mos ago.... one wonders if Putin feels cheated by whatever he gave China for that favor now.

Some folks, around the world, are happy with this outcome because of the fact that Putin sends his henchmen to murder his opposition wherever they may be. Believe it or not, people in other nations do not respect the right of Putin to order the murder of his opposition within our own nation or one of our allies like Great Britain though, I must admit, our current President does not seem to share our scruples about such things. If for no other reason, he should be impeached for that reason. When America is ok with state sponsored murders then America is no longer America. Trump is rapidly destroying the principles that once made us a great nation.
But then, I forget, Trump is Putin's bitch and also Salman's bitch. Thank God one Representative of the House of Representatives actually said it out loud and publicly.
We should be chanting it wherever he goes, "Putin's bitch, Salman's bitch." He should hear that when he goes to sleep at night, it should be loud enough to penetrate Mara Lago. It should be inescapable for him. He is Putin's and Salman's bitch. Our President is OWNED by tyrants with money and Trump is a whore.
