Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Marc Lamont Hill: For months, the entire country has been watching the Florida gubernatorial race between Andrew Gillum and Ron DeSantis. Entering the final days, Gillum supporters were cautiously optimistic that he could win the race, as he had pulled ahead (within the margin of error) in most national polls. ... The issue, however, was not that DeSantis won. Rather, it was the fact the he managed to win by playing on the same racist and divisive tactics that too often decide U.S. elections. DeSantis' victory was a reminder that racism is still an effective strategy in American politics.

"In truth, DeSantis' dog-whistle tactics not only played to the overt racist nature and fears of some Floridians, but put a spotlight on the many white voters in the state who remain casually racist and willfully ignorant of how much racial progress still needs to be made in Florida and in the U.S. as a whole."

Racism Won In Florida This Week

Yes, racism was the deciding factor.

It used to be that Republicans played the race card face down, but now in the age of Trump, Republicans play the race card face up.

Bumper sticker spoken here, eh Dulli?

Do you deny that DeSantis is a racist? Of course you don't, you sad little intellectual lightweight. That would require things like "argument" and "thought" and we all know you aren't capable of those things anymore.

Folks keep blaming the right when they win when you should be mad at the left who did not turn out to vote en-mass like we did, again. Take that anger and direct it to the democratic party that keeps failing you.

not even close that it was basically racism. most democrat black candidates could also be described as progressive. gay rights, transexuals, abortion and gun rights are all just as big an individual factor as race is. black democrats are not elected for many reasons. but there most definitely is a racist component in any american election in which a black person participates

but you could be not inclined to vote for gillum for many reasons besides race. i suppose you could make the argument that you voted for de santis in spite of his seemingly racist leanings because you thought his fiscal positions were more reasonable than gillam's

I guess the loss is due to racist women ;)

"There are more women than men in Florida. The total population of Florida is estimated at 19,893,297 people with 9,723,286 male and 10,170,011 female. There are 446,725 more women than men in the state, which is 2.25% of the total population. The Florida Gender Ratio is 96 men to 100 women (96:100) or 0.96."

"So the fact the Gillum was a Democratic socialist and Florida is a Republican state had nothing to do with it."

If Florida were a Republican state then both our Senate race, our governators race and one seat in Congress would not be going to a recount. In a Republican state the margin would not be less then half of one percent of the vote. Even less than one quarter of one percent of the vote. And, because of Amendment 4, felons resotration of voting rights, Florida will probably never be a Republican led state again. Kiss those days good bye.

"Mysteriously ‘found' ballots in Dem strongholds in Florida, Arizona threaten Election Day results"

Anyone who watched the commercials run by the Republicans knows that is not true. It was scare tactics and lies that scared people who don't really know the issues into believing Gillam was going to cut Medicare and charge them a state income tax when he was not planning on doing either. He did talk about a tax on the largest corporations in the state to fund education improvements but the Republicans never presented it that way. They also misled about an FBI investigation in which he was not the target but he had spoken to the FBI without an attorney and was assured that he was not the focus of the FBI. But you would never know that from the Republicans' dishonest commercials and I know people who based their decision of who to vote from directly from those lies.

So if I don't vote for a black man because I disagree with his stated policies, opinions and history, I am a racist. I disagree, voting for an individual simply because of their skin tone seems racist to me.

Coming from the same person who thinks that the GOP maintaining their majority in the US Senate is a "tie" with this:

Democrats won/flipped the US House
Democrat's vote margin bigger than Tea Party's in 2010.
Biggest GOP loss since the Watergate mid-term election in 1974
Republicans lost 323 state legislative seats (367 since Trump took office)
Republicans lost 7 governorships, including key 2020 Midwest states in PA, WI and MI.
6 state legislatures flipped control from GOP to Democratic (7 since Trump took office)
Blue wave...

Certainly not. But is this the thread where we pretend that people who would never vote for a black man haven't made the outcome as tight as it is?
