Chinese President Xi Jinping has officially opened the world's longest sea crossing bridge, nine years after construction first began. Including its access roads, the bridge spans 55km (34 miles) and connects Hong Kong to Macau and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai.

THIS is what a Superpower does. It makes the world a better place.

Meanwhile what of the other "superpower"? Still rolling in the mud in Afghanistan, not believing in climate change and tearing up treaties all over the place......

The question is: Did this bridge contractor cheat on the concrete mix or rebar in the original design?

You are the only one asking such a question.

When you get an answer, wake me up and tell me.

Maybe, in order to "Make America Great Again" Trump can sign an executive order to build a bridge from the present day to that idealized past he and so many of his supporters covet so.

I hope they didn't use Chinese steel. It'll be rusted out in a couple of years. San Francisco learned the hard way.

This is the problem with America and the way we evaluate things. Using one example to generalize an entire country's activities is wrong. Do you really need the millions of articles it would take to show all of the atrocities China is doing throughout the world, especially in their geographic area? Their oppression of their own. The oppression of places like Tibet and Mongolia. The list goes on forever. And these are CURRENT.

America is in the same situation. You can post millions of articles about the good they do around the world and the bad. But good little Liberals who hate America use every chance they can get to destroy this country from the inside. The question is, when China rules over you and takes away the freedoms you enjoy today, who will you go after? You won't be able to go after the government since you won't have guns or freedom. You won't be able to use social media since it is strictly controlled. And even if you did, you would mysteriously disappear after making any negative reference to the government. But hey, let's ignore all that because China created a great public works project...something every civilized country does all the time.

And the reason it hurts America so much is because this logic is used everywhere by people like this. One black man gets killed in a fight between two guys and Americans come out and say America is completely racist. One person gets wrongfully arrested and all of a sudden, everyone is wrongfully arrested. .01% of kids are taken from their parents at the Mexico border and all of a sudden it's every kid. Our issues never get fixed because we place priority on things that aren't a big problem.

I think it is pretty obvious who has done the most harm to this country and it sure as hell isn't the liberals. Right now we face an increase in debt by 1.5 tillion dollars and not one single liberal approved of the tax cut creating it.

On problem with your logic Humtake, it isn't one black man, it's many black men in every situation you mention. Only a dishonest conservative would attempt to pretend that it is one black man in every one of your scenarios.

America was able to build world class infrastructure (interstate highways), but seems to have lost that. China copied US ingenuity.
America at times fought to defend the innocent, now we imprison them again. The US is embracing xenophobia and aggression much like China.

We lost the good and embraced the bad. American has lost its way.

#12 | Posted by bored at 2018-10-23 12:26 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Using one example

It's a huge example, mate.

The US simply CAN NOT undertake such a project on SUCH a scale.

Ask yourself WHY?

The oppression of places like Tibet and Mongolia

When Americans decided to expand west, they killed all them Injuns as they spread. Nice of you to forget.

One black man gets killed

I am PRETTY sure more than one black person has been shot or choked to death by cops. LOL

Lie much?

Cool bridge. Doesn't change the fact that China is the worst violator of human rights and the biggest polluter in the entire world.

While China has decided to spread west, they are currently killing or putting into "reeducation camps" all of them Uyghur and Tibetans. Today. Now. After the death of western imperialism and colonialism. Just saying....

If we want to get all historical. The current borders of China, which are along the lines of *Imperial China* is filled with the Han Chinese and a bunch of the now-minority ethnic groups they conquered and subjugated. Next up, the people of Hong Kong with their soon-to-be-dead independent language and culture.

Nice of you to forget T*sser.

100% And a lot of us in the US are pretty vocal about this problem. In China? good luck, lol.

Probably not more than the 3 Gorges Dam, an environmental catastrophe that destroyed thousands of communities.

I can always recognize a J Tremain thread. It either involves America failing or another country doing something better than us. For somebody who supposedly lives here he sure seems to hate it. I can only imagine he is counting the days he goes back to the third world utopia he came from.

Well the USA is failing in its infrastructure... like medical there is no excuse for it. The nation is awash in wealth and it is being spent on making new toys for defense. All that spending sure didn't save our asses on 9/11 nor has it won the longest war in our history... seems to me we are wasting money.

They sell us oil and jet fuel then use the profit to build hospitals, roads and schools...

we on the other hand have lobbyists and ghost stories.

If America had Injuns running free and shooting arrows at nice fat-butt white folks and scalping them and such, we would be killing them all over again too. Today. Now.

Our biggest mistake has been not putting black people onto reservations. So now we got to fix that by killing them while they stop at a red light (for example).

It's in the first few lines of the article.

"Construction has been dogged by safety issues - at least 18 workers have died on the project, officials say"

About one life for every 2 miles of bridge...

I also like how they use the "at least 18" approach. Very telling.

for the 1% maybe

You or I can't use this bridge.

And I wouldn't use it anyway as it was "made in China". I'd get lead poisoning or something.

And you can't use it because you are just a peon. No peons allowed on the bridge!

We don't live in China. DUH!

you can't use it because you are just a peon. No peons allowed on the bridge!

As a part-time Communist, I would be invited to use this bridge. You can sit on the sidewalk and moan about lead poisoning by all means.

In Communism, the peons are kings. It's the One Percenters who get it in the balls. Yes, I know China has rich people but they still have not abandoned their communist roots.

You are full of crap. Employees jumping to their deaths from Faxcomm is a demonstration of unbridled capitalism. Some folks are too dumb to teach. Tremain is one of them. If China is so wonderful then why aren't you living there? We wouldn't miss you. Of course though, your internet freedom would be a little less free, you probably couldn't post here from there.
