Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev, one of the original signatories of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty along with former President Ronald Reagan, wondered aloud: "Is it really that hard to understand that rejecting these agreements is, as the people say, not the work of a great mind(?) Do they really not understand in Washington what this can lead to?" he asked. "All agreements aimed at nuclear disarmament and limiting nuclear weapons must be preserved, for the sake of preserving life on earth," Gorbachev added.

Putin directly benefits from Trump's actions.

So. It shall be done.

I think he's making plans to re-name the airport.

All while he ignores the mistake he made by thinking Russia could be a nation for the people and an honorable partner in world affairs. He failed and so did Russia, so he needs the US to stay as close as possible for anyone to think his actions were positive. Russia is the Jan Brady of the civilized world, always mad that others get attention.

The only reason Gorbie is aiming his butt hurt at Trump is that Putin, who has been violating this treaty for years (and Obama knew about it and did nothing), would have him killed if he spoke the truth.

It's not all that inaccurate. The Obama admin lodged a complaint, and then did nothing at the behest of Germany. Russians effectively abandoned the treaty in 2006 when Iskander-K development began, was completed in 2016, and deployed in 2017.

A little fact for y'all. Nuclear weapons have a limited shelf life. Because of the intense radiation the explosives and the electrical components degrade over time. Seven years is about the length of time that these things can be counted on to work. The Russians are broke. They have around 1600 bombs on missiles and many more that can be delivered by other means. They do not have the resources to revamp their entire inventory, about 6000 devises. The only ones to profit from a treaty would be the Russians. But I seriously doubt that we will go on a building spree. We have more than enough to end civilization, and new bombs are expensive. The Russians have a habit of breaking every treaty they sign. Example, biological weapons. Yep, they were neck deep in development of weaponized anthrax and other nasty stuff a decade after they signed a treaty in the 1970s. Then there was the production of poison bullets. Literally they had snake farms to harvest venom for that purpose. They signed a treaty outlawing that too. The Soviet Union was our enemy, lest we forget.
