Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, October 20, 2018

With midterm elections two-and-a-half weeks away and the 2020 presidential race around the corner, prominent Democrats are embracing an ambitious idea: Repeal and replace the $1.5 trillion Republican tax plan. The proposals would get rid of the tax cuts and, in turn, funnel that money into government-guaranteed cash for low- and middle-income households. "The idea was to provide a clear contrast with Donald Trump," Khanna told CNBC in an interview. "You know what you could actually do with this money? You could give anyone making under $75,000 a raise."

Two weeks before an election, they throw a giant bucket of chum.

They should have spent the last 6 months talking about it endlessly, along with how they plan to achieve it.

But instead, they were endlessly talking about Trump.

Endlessly fluffing Trump.

Oh, my! Dems talking about policies they could try to pass were they to win the House... how terrible.

You could also use it to balance the budget. So much for their fake "concern" about deficits.

Did you guys finally agree on some kind of message that doesn't use the words "resist", "obstruct", or "kick"?

Replace tax cuts for billionaires with cuts for the middle class will stimulate the economy increase revenues and help the poor. Dems do it better!

From the guy who made not one peep about the recent tax code. Speaking of fake concern....

Actually I did. I strongly approved of the one progressive reform in the bill, the cap on SALT deductions.

Actually, he was overjoyed. He's spent a lot of time here celebrating all kinds of deficit-busting GOP policies.

Liar. I was in favor of Steve Bannon's new 44 percent tax bracket. I wouldn't be in favor of it if Dems were in control. They would just spend it all on their wishlist of new programs, rather than reduce deficits.

sheeples go to rant. What a Baghdad Bob you are.

Each election is local. With each candidate is addressing local issues.

Humpy has dominated news coverage and political discourse to an extent prior imperial presidents could not have imagined .

When the conversation turns to Trump as it inevitably does then yes. They have a very strong opinions. So stop lying Comrade.

Democrats positions are pretty clear.

Democrats support more government spending on social services while spending less on the military. They oppose the cutting of social services, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and various other welfare programs, believing it to be harmful to efficiency and social justice. (Wiki)

One of the strongest beliefs of the Democratic Party is that of equality on all fronts. Democrats believe in equal opportunity despite race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. They also believe in equal educational opportunity for all.

If Democrats stand for one thing, it must be overcoming this unprecedented economic imbalance and creating a multi-racial, multi-ethnic coalition of the bottom 90 percent, to take back our economy and politics. -Robert Reich

It's pretty clear to me how they would govern based on those beliefs. I wonder why that is so hard for you to understand, Comrade.

If you want to die penniless in some dilapidated state funded nursing home (the cause of your death will most likely be medical error) ... then that's your choice.

"Two weeks before an election, they throw a giant bucket of chum."

It just pisses him off because it may actually work to help the Democrats. Sheeple's defense of the Republicans is absolute regardless of the harm they cause because he is a partisan hack.

That's just another Sheeple lie. Democrats have talked about lots of things, like Medicare for all, free college, the ridiculous Republican tax cuts, private prisons, almost any topic you can think of. Partisan hacks only hear the attacks on their idol.

But no. That's all we can do, is imagine, because the news has been filled with nothing but Trump for two years.

Lie. That's a progressive tax on the Favored Fifth no matter where they live. The SALT deduction is welfare for the rich.

Politics isn't just election day. Democrats and Republicans don't get worse because of how we vote. No matter how we vote the consistent outcome is longer hours for lower wages, less job security, higher health and housing costs, greater debt burdens and less time and energy for recreation and politics. All these outcomes happen between elections.

Our society is divided and segregated by ideology. Most of the talking heads and politicians have no idea what is going on in the country. But, the problem isn't ideology. The problem is power. And the Democrats and Republicans own all the power despite no majority supporting anything they do. Congress's approval rating is in the single digits in many polls. No one is giving up their power because people complain.

The battle over power can only be surmounted by inspiring the electorate. This is how women's suffrage, civil rights for blacks, the moon mission, and WWII were won. Its also why we lost in Vietnam and are still losing other conflicts. No sacrifice for the greater good has ever been rational, but it is always been necessary. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired because he had a vision. Trump is a product of an intellectual void in the Democrats and a morally bankrupt intellectual class. This is why Democrats lose so often.

If we feel the need to suppress our hope for something better because we fear something worse, who have we become? Lesser evil voting is not a plan. Nader stands alone in this respect, even above Chomsky and Sanders, who advised lesser evil voting.

Ideas excerpted from Nick Pemberton @ counterpunch

This Democratic platform can be a small step in the right direction.
