We just don't yet know the extent of the damage, it's immeasurable and it'll take years to unravel and find out.

Coverage of Trump in the media is 92% negative. Given a roaring economy and a lack of blunders overseas it's absolutely ridiculous that media coverage of him is that negative.

#22 | Posted by JeffJ at 2018-10-15 11:44 AM | Reply

What's worse is the the WSJ editorial pages, IBD, Fox News, etc. are all lumped in with the media. I'd be interested to isolate WaPo, NYT, the Big 3, CNN and MSNBC and see what the percentage of negative coverage is. I bet it's over 98%.

#23 | Posted by JeffJ at 2018-10-15 11:46 AM | Reply

Maybe the negative coverage has to do with trump being a traitor criminal that defends rape and murder.

I'd like to know how "negative" is defined for purposes of the 92% number.

For example, if Trump says something stupid and the media publishes a story about the stupid thing he said, is that a "negative" story because it makes him look stupid? Even though he's the one who said it? Because he does that about ten times a day.

No new incredibly costly overseas entanglements (Iraq). No toppling of governments leading from behind (Libya). A renewal of our alliance with Israel. No cancelled missile shield promises in order to have a 'reset'.

Maybe I should have qualified a lack of major or significant blunders overseas.

#38 You forgot some vital ones;

Alienating our allies, getting cozy with dictators, endangering Japan and South Korea, meeting in secret with Putin, literally becoming the laughing stock of the world, and entering harmful trade wars. I'm sure I missed a few.

That's the beauty of these vague defenses offered up in support of Trump by people who claim not to have coted for him. Nothing you say will be deemed "major" or "significant" by the defender, so the defender is never wrong and Trump is always right.

I gave some examples of major overseas blunders by both Bush and Obama. They are far worse than anything that Trump has done, thus far, that could be described as a blunder. Given time he may well match or exceed Obama on the blunder front. I doubt he will ever be as bad as Bush was though.

#49 | Posted by JeffJ at 2018-10-16 10:20 AM | Reply

That's exactly my point. When you get to decide what is "significant," the result is preordained.

At least we have objective things like the deficit to measure Trump's terribleness by. It's no wonder the Trump fellators don't show up to those threads.

Would the failure to submit the Iran Nuclear deal to the Senate to possibly be ratified as a treaty, and therefore binding the country to it, qualify as a significant event?

#53 | Posted by Avigdore at 2018-10-16 11:07 AM | Reply

Sure.

While those are more easily measured blunders, that doesn't make things like backstabbing our allies, sucking up to Kim Jong Un or siding with Putin over our intel agencies "insignificant." The effects of those blunders will reverberate for years, if not decades.
