Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Earlier this week The Associated Press reported that Georgia's Secretary of State Brian Kemp's office has put a hold on 53,000 voter registration applications with nearly 70 percent of those belonging to minority citizens. Kemp, a Republican, is running for Georgia governor which polls show is a close race with Democrat Stacey Abrams. Abrams has called for Kemp's resignation. The AP obtained records from the 53,000 applications not being processed: "An analysis of the records obtained by The Associated Press reveals racial disparity in the process. Georgia's population is approximately 32 percent black, according to the U.S. Census, but the list of voter registrations on hold with Kemp's office is nearly 70 percent black."

It makes a difference, especially if you're trying to marry your cousin.

And 53,000? It's more like 400,000. Corruption out in the open. If he is this corrupt as a candidate just think how corrupt this piece of crap will be as Governor.

All these voter purges are a fun reminder that the U.S. was more or less dragged into liberal democracy by the Warren Court and the civil-rights movement, and we can be dragged right back out of it. -- Matt Ford (@fordm) October 12, 2018

How much of this can continue before it is prosecuted as a crime? There is NO LIMIT, as long as Republicans control the machinery of Georgia. If Kemp will do this he is prepared to take other actions on hackable machines. Republicans also control the voting machinery in 85% of all the States and they openly demonstrate contempt for equal rights for all of us under the law. This has to stop and it will never stop until the Federal Government intervenes and that will never happen as long as Republicans control DC.

Trump is the personification of Republican criminal dishonesty. We now ALL live under a President that is incapable of making an honest fact based statement about anything. This sick worship of power over truth and justice ensures our nation will continue to decline on the word stage.

Its been a long time since we have seen an honest bone in the conservative libertarian coalition. William F. Buckley Jr.and The Firing Line hasn't been on the air for twenty years. Its not so much that he was right about anything, but he was not interested in silencing the opposition. He wanted open dialogue and was the only program on network TV that ever permitted Noam Chomsky to be heard by the public.

The world watches as the nation they used to want to emulate becomes no better than Russia, and not incidentally, has a President who owes his soul to Putin.. Trumpers can say anything they want but they can't wash off that stench.

Absolutely. If nothing else to avoid the appearances of manipulating the vote - I am sure some other fine GOPher will stand in and do the same though. They may be able to vote - PROVISIONALLY - but that doesn't mean their vote will count.

Apparently, this doesn't effect Caucasian democrats for some reason. Why is that?
Like I've said, get your ID straight. Make sure you have current, up-to-date identification, and that you're properly registered to vote.

Dems spend tens of millions on ads, rallies, flying to bar-b-que cook-offs, but can't seem to help get their base properly ID'd and registered.
They've spent enough money that you'd think by now, Dems would have a fleet of mobile ID and voter registration busses criss-crossing the state.

Your reading comprehension skills are quite low. They did all of those things but the state is not processing the registrations.

"The Dems" can't give out licenses or register voters. They can only help people do it. The state has to process them.

Why Americans tolerate the Republican Party's obvious attempts to suppress legitimate voters, in many different ways, is beyond my ability to comprehend. There should be riots in the street, there should be mass demonstrations, total economic boycotts. We should shut this country down. The Republicans have perpetrated a coup on our nation and we sit idly by doing nothing about it.
Fact: Donald Trump did not win the election in 2016. Neither did many of the Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Legislators. Our country is being run by the perpetrators of a coup.
