Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Women who tell their stories should have the support, and belief, of loved ones, friends, and a therapeutic community. But when a woman, in telling her story, makes an allegation against a specific man, a different set of obligations kick in. Even as we must treat accusers with seriousness and dignity, we must hear out the accused fairly and respectfully, and recognize the potential lifetime consequences that such an allegation can bring. If believing the woman is the beginning and the end of a search for the truth, then we have left the realm of justice for religion.

#1 If I thought everyone the DR understood this, I wouldn't have posted it up. The posts of the last couple of weeks clearly indicate many do not.

and as usual, mookie is giving the wrong lecture to the wrong audience

"Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) opened herself up to a firehose of disgusting comments and attacks on her and her family on her Facebook page.
Friday morning the independent-minded Alaskan senator announced she was unwilling to vote for the embattled Kavanaugh, saying "He's not the right man for the court at this time.""

so the right wing not only attacks survivors, it also attacks the people who believe the survivors

#2 I agree.... However I don't think the ones that lack understanding will bother to read the article, or even if they do comprehend what it says.

The Duke lacrosse case was a widely reported 2006 criminal case in which three members of the Duke University men's lacrosse team were falsely accused of rape. The case evoked varied responses from the media, faculty groups, students, the community, and others. The case's resolution sparked public discussion of racism, media bias, and due process on campuses, and ultimately led to the resignation and disbarment of the lead prosecutor, Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong.

Who here believed the Duke LaCrosse accuser? We were called racisits and bigots if we didn't. Sound familiar?

"recognize the potential lifetime consequences that such an allegation can bring."

Take the Duke Lacrosse Team.
What are their lifetime consequences?

More claptrap from the right winged contingent. Yeah believe the man over the woman every time. It's sad commentary that this is still going on.

So the Duke Lacrosee Team suffered no real harm from the false allegations.

Glad we cleared that up!

The internet. Their exoneration was well publicized for them fortunately. However, imagine an article was in the paper describing a sexual assault accusation against you. Anybody who googles your name will find it. Would they bother to read further or dismiss you as a scumbag after seeing the headline?

So the real damage they suffered is that you don't know how it might have affected them.

This guy experienced it..

Winning back his name was hardest of all. Removing every trace of the taint would be impossible. Stories persist on the Internet. Once, a date told him she had Googled him, and he had to explain.

No one came out and said anything directly, but he sensed people were wary. Some clients avoided him. The woman he was dating before his arrest never called again. He felt a lingering mistrust. As if people figured some of it must be true -- that he hired a crack legal team and bought his way out of trouble. He knew certain things reinforced this perception: His accuser was walking free, after all, and retained custody of his son.

There are a few false rape allegations but they are nothing compared to the millions that get away with sexual assault.

"We should question every rape victim. Because there's s chance 2% of them are lying. So let's treat the other 98% like they're lying too."

Uhhh...
Those are the same thing.
Unless "tell their stories" means cry about it, not name the guy who did it.

Kav's confirmation is in no way an exoneration.

Kav's confirmation is in no way an exoneration.

And Ford's accusation was in no way a conviction. But you liberals are acting like it was.
