Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, September 19, 2018

The Supreme Court today denied a stay, and lifted a temporary stay by Chief Justice Roberts, in Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington's (CREW) landmark dark money case against Crossroad GPS and the Federal Election Commission (FEC). This decision, following similar decisive decisions by the district court and court of appeals this week, means that effective immediately, anyone making more than $250 in express advocacy ads -- ads that tell viewers who to vote for or against -- must now disclose the identities of all contributors who gave more than $200 in a year. They must also identify who among those contributors earmarked their contributions for express ads. Because of this decision, the contributors for a major category of dark money spending this fall will have to be disclosed to the public. "This is a great day for transparency and democracy," CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said. "Three courts, including the Supreme Court, have now rejected Crossroads' arguments for a stay, meaning we're about to know a lot more about who is funding our elections."

Wait, what?

You mean to tell me, after all I've been 'told' by MSM & the DR left & others like them, in person, that Trump appointees to SCOTUS are the 1st Justices ever to do what McCain/Feingold never intended to do?

Stunning.

And just bad ass!

Rcade, I think the words 'dark' & 'money' being right next to each other may be a bit too much for some here to handle.

The term 'psychic-break' comes to mind for some reason.

Excellent!!!

Now it just needs to be extended to ALL categories of dark money spending.

If money is to be speech, the American public deserves to know who is speaking.

Sounds like an inch of progress to me. Just one person in this country, one Donald Trump, has more than forty shell organizations in which he is "President". Its all designed to hide where the money came from and where its going to, thereby avoiding taxes and honest accounting to the stock market. There are thousands of other similar accounts. Unraveling any of them will take years and be resisted every step of the way.

A good step in a good direction.

Anyone have any information on which Justices voted which way on this?

@#6

Aside from a very brief note announcing the decision, details seem to be missing.

Looks like it was unanimous:
"There were no dissents issued with the order."

Is that what it says? Nope.

The dark money is still there. Contributors just have to be identified. Or at least their shell companies have to be identified.

= that Trump appointees to SCOTUS

"This decision, following similar decisive decisions by the district court and court of appeals this week..."

The rwing Justices were outed by the lower courts.

- The dark money is still there.

You bet'cha! And it will be as long as rwing Presidents are appointing rwing justices.

Question:

Does this decision expose, e.g., Russia funneling money through the NRA in support of Republican candidates?

100%.

As for extending to ALL, at least it has a chance to now.

My goodness.

Do you understand the term, 'ya gotta start somewhere'?

Until now, that 'start' had not occurred. You think anyone in the government is just going to bore a hole that leads to everything possibly connected with this?

Do you have any imagination?

Corky, you may want to prepare yourself for things you've never allowed yourself to even think about.

Ok, so you don't mind if we start as soon as the Dems are in charge again?

That would imply Russian money is behind keeping rapid-fire weapons and large magazines involved in school shootings.

No wonder Republicans fetish on the NRA interfering with sensible gun laws.

I would also guess that weapons manufacturers are closely involved with the Russians.
