Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 13, 2018

The Toronto Star: Trump's wildly dishonest August was capped by an 83-false-claim week that began Monday, Aug. 27. (The week continued into early September, but 82 of the claims came in August.) The week was the fourth-most-dishonest week of his presidency. All four of these weeks have come in the last three months. Trump is now up to 2,519 false claims for the first 591 days of his presidency, an average of 4.3 per day.

Is this news? The only thing Trump and his supporters will get from this headline is "Trump sets new record" and "Trump is unprecedented", and will probably cheer him on because of it. Apart from the few who are still outraged and shocked on a daily basis, practically everyone else has been too desensitized to care. This is just noise, and a distraction to tire people out.

Yeah, the polls reflect how tired and desensitized people are.

#3 | Posted by Zed at 2018-09-13 08:52 AM | Reply

Yea, a lot of people around the world just expect anything the US says is a lie.

Mission accomplished Putin.

Yes, this is news. Jesus. A president who lies this much puts the country in grave danger. The media needs to keep pressing the issue of his dishonesty in the hopes that the numbskulls who support him will wake up.

Before you claim that's not possible, polls suggest a lot of them have woken up.

The drumbeat of Trump atrocities sets the stage for belief when his final, heretofore incomprehensible crimes ate revealed.

#5 - actually, rdude, if you look at the whole picture, you will see no great uptick in intellect, but rather, a dying off of the type people that support him.

Point of Order.....

If you lie, then you lie about lying, is that still a single lie, or is it two separate lies? or is it like a lie and a half?

I can see the potential for like 7 lies on any one subject;

1) the original lie.
2) lying about the orig lie.
3) denying that you lied about the orig. lie.
4 & 5) Re-stating the original lie twice, to make it seem like it wasn't a lie.
6) claiming that the orig. lie was for 'for their own good'
7) claiming the whole subject was fake news.

"Apart from the few who are still outraged and shocked on a daily basis, practically everyone else has been too desensitized to care. This is just noise, and a distraction to tire people out."

That depends on what people do with the information. If they become tired, stop caring and give up, then Trump's lies have had their desired effect. If they become energized, start caring and get to work fighting back by doing things like registering voters and getting them to the polls, then reports like this one that point out the deranged extent of Trump's pathological lying will not have the effect Trump desires and you outline.

Classically, two steps:

1) Divert auxiliary power to shields

2) Divert impulse power in shields.

These failing, you escape by pod or stand on the bridge and die.

This entire site is based upon "false claims", exaggerations, falsely assigned positions, and revisionist history.

If one were to remove all of that structured lumber, it would collapse in upon itself, like a big yellow WTC building 7.

In related news:

www.cnn.com

"Trump falsely claims nearly 3,000 Americans in Puerto Rico 'did not die'"

He's saying they didn't die IN the storm, so that doesn't count as deaths due to the storm.

Which is like saying "I didn't kill that guy when I pushed him off the roof, he only died because he hit the ground so hard."

#20 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2018-09-13 11:03 AM | Reply

On the contrary, deaths that occur AFTER the storm, are even MORE damning of trump's response, because those are the deaths that were most preventable with proper response and planning.

I don't have the time or the inclination to read this whole list. Does it include the photo Trump tweeted of the solemn ceremony on the White House lawn before Don and Mel went to the Flight 93 memorial? You know, the photo actually taken a year earlier, showing not only sunshine on what was actually a sunny day and including long-gone staffers like Ty Cobb, Omarosa Manigault Newman and Hope Hicks?

Truth is irrelevant to Trump Nation. It's all about creating a narrative.

There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late, hey

There are some here among us who think they are doing us a favor by pointing out that pointing out Trump's lies is just "playing into his game" because his Base doesn't believe he lies.... or doesn't care that he does.

Which might be relevant if Dems running for Congress were concentrating on that, or focusing on his Base, but they aren't; they are running on local issues and larger now increasingly popular issues like health care, where ObamaCare now has majority approval and is the major issue ahead of the economy, and leaving the obvious lies to the media to point out.... and to take the heat.

"Um... was 2.9 percent and has increased to 3."

And 99% of it went to the 1%, wages rising at less than the rate of inflation. Therefore, in real spending power, workers are earning less now than when Trump took office.

Despite the lies, insults, name calling, and dog whistles, almost nothing of substance has changed. Nor will it. To a far greater extent than Trump's hyperventilating critics are willing to acknowledge, the US remains on a same trajectory from what it was prior to POTUS #45 taking office. This is because Trump is ineffective and for all practical purposes has ceased to govern.

So what has changed?
1.In 1946 the United States made everything and made more of it than anyone else.
2.In 1946 US industrial capitalism was generating impressive riches and also distributing the benefits on a relatively equitable basis.
3.Having had their fill of fighting from 1941 to 1945, Americans had a genuine aversion to war. This conclusion was not shared by the national security establishment.
4.But, also in 1946 racism, sexism, and homophobia flourished, lamented by some, promoted by others, tolerated by the vast majority, as did anti-communist political hysteria.
