Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

For the last 18 months, the GOP largely dismissed as a liberal fantasy the idea that Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) might pose a real threat to incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) 2018 reelection bid. But with just eight weeks left until election day, the long-held notion that a Democrat can't win statewide in Texas appears increasingly outdated. Polls have continued to tighten, alarming high-profile Republicans and improving the long-shot odds that Democrats could retake the Senate in November.

"On Monday, CNN changed its rating of the race from "Likely Republican" to "Lean Republican." That followed a similar update by the Cook Political Report in August, reflecting the belief that the race is more competitive than previously thought.

On Sunday, Rick Tyler, Cruz's former campaign spokesman, told MSNBC that there was a very real possibility O'Rourke could win. "It's possible -- people say no, it's not possible because again you look at Texas and say ‘It's a red state and it's never going to happen' but Beto O'Rourke has consistently out-fundraised him 2-to-1, and he doesn't take PAC money."

Panic appears to have spread into the top ranks of the Republican party, with one senior administration official privately fretting that Cruz is not "likable" enough to hold onto his Senate seat. Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney made the remark at an event for GOP donors in New York City on Saturday, according to a New York Times report."

Ted Cruz is as likable as any other Russiapublican candidate. Which is not likable at all. How we get these losers elected in Red States shows how lame the GOP and its base are. Ted Nugent is a star, LOL. They hate us for our coolness.

Yep. Endocrine disrupters in the environment. That's the real reason.

Also, didn't Ted Cruz shoot Kennedy? Or was that Marco Rubio?

Ah, it probably doesn't matter.

Canadian-born Rafael Edward (Ted) Cruz is flat-out creepy.

Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke should be our next U.S. Senator here in Texas.

Unfortunately, Texas is a nest of right-wing techie cheaters who work for the various not U.S.-owned tech firms around Dallas, Austin and anywhere dumping hazardous materials is not enforced.

The aging insecurely stored not U.S.-made voting appliances of Texas are easy targets for the unscrupulous, bigoted, bullied and foreign-trained in many ways.

Cruz is a genuine t*#d, but also a very good debater. He speaks his own error ridden right wing propaganda with simplistic clarity and cannot be counted out yet. As Hillary learned the hard way, O'Rourke can't afford to take anything for granted. It would be fantastic to see Cruz go down though.

Well, they better enjoy it while they can. I'm sure Dems are busy trying to push legislation that outlaws sweating bullets since bullets kill people.

Beto is prettier, but there has not been a debate. If O'Rourke wants to have a debate with Cruz, he will get his butt handed to him. O'Rourke is a spoiled rich kid who has never had to struggle or fight for anything, he got criminal charges that would have sent anyone else put in prison, just because his daddy had a boat load of money. He has the support of the partisan Newspapers, and that is where you are also getting the favorable polls. Cruz is not that appealing, but he is an incumbent, and Trump is popular in Texas.

"O'Rourke is a spoiled rich kid who has never had to struggle or fight for anything"

Like Donald Trump and George W. Bush

"he (Beto) got criminal charges that would have sent anyone else put in prison"

Definitely like George.

The fantasy land you live in, is it nice there?

Also, isn't Ted Cruz from a rich family as well?

That's not fantasy land. Cruz can debate. To "beat" Cruz you have to debate like Trump, which is throwing insults and not really debating at all. Beto hasn't demonstrated the ability to do this.
