In the entire history of the Palestinian people, they have never been independent. Yes they have lived there, so they have a claim to the land..... But is it stronger than the Jewish claim to the state of Israel?. The answer is no. When if you want to grant them an equal claim of 50/50, the UN chose the side of Israel in accordance with international law, gave the country overt as Israel.
At that point, the Palestinians had two choices. Accept international law, become productive citizens, work to ensure they are an equal and respected population within Israel..... Or, join foreign armies and try to wipe Israel off the new map and steal what was never theirs. Subsequent generations continue to make the wrong choice of violence.
Are the Israelis blameless? Of course not. They have been hamfisted in their defense against terrorism. If they want peace they need to react more peacefully. But for Christ's sake, it's hard when terrorists are attacking all the time.
As for the West Bank, that is a great example of the Palestinians making their own bed, then getting pissed when they have to lie in it. They joined foreign armies, the armies attacked and got their butts jabbed too them. The Israel's penetrated deep into Israel and Syria, called for a peace, but new it wasn't the last time it would happen, so they retreated back to better defensible positions than their original border. Hard to blame them for that, though it is illegal. But did negotiating happen? No. Only violence from tnt Palestinians.
At every opportunity they chose the wrong way to address the problem. Every. Single. Time.
