Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, September 10, 2018

Street artist Sabo may just be ‘some guy who lives in some dump,' but he is taking on and taking down the likes of Jimmy Kimmel and Meryl Streep, he is America's preeminent right-wing guerrilla street artist. This sounds impressive. Yet being the Banksy or the Shep Fairey of the right is not a high pile to climb. It's a bit like being the foremost reggae singer at the Grand Ole Opry or the premier scuba outfitter in the Kalahari. There's not a lot of competition.

FTA:

If it all seems a little ugly, bordering on Neanderthalish, that's the idea. You can accuse Sabo of having snapped from being surrounded by so many Hollywood libs. But on his website, unsavoryagents.com, he beats you to the punch, freely admitting it in a short manifesto:

"There was no place I could go where I wasn't punched in the face by some sort of art defining who I was for being a Republican. Evil, Bigoted, Homophobic, Out of Touch, Rich, Greedy, on and on. And then I snapped. Why was the Left allowed to define me and where are the dissenting voices from the Right setting the record straight? Creatively speaking, no one... . My aim as an artist is to be as dirty, ground level, and mean as any Liberal artist out there, more so if I can. Use their tactics, their methods, appeal to their audience, the young, urban, street urchins with a message they never hear in a style they own. My name is SABO, I'm an UNSAVORY AGENT."

Sabo has really made his mark, especially on the Westside, and I know he drives most of my liberal friends insane since his art is not only gritty but spot on in its caricatures.

Interesting article for those who are willing to accept a different viewpoint than usually seen in a street artist.

Art is subjective. So there's no point in discussing Sabo's "art".

But. To compare his work to Banksy or Shepard Fairey speaks volumes about the ignorance of the author for this article.

Neither Banksy nor Shepard Fairey make art to be democrats or because their liberals. Shepard Fairey‘s work isn't even political. Neither is Banksy's.

Sabo's "art" reads as a pissed off conservative lashing out at people he's been triggered by.

I guess that's the best conservatives will ever get to having an artist represent them.

Tell that to WashPo and any of the other articles that have been written about Sabo:

More than any ephemeral political fury, Sabo is fueled by disdain for his fellow artists. He settled in California after a stint in the Marines in the 1980s, he told The Post, and studied art in Pasadena before moving to Los Angeles, where the liberal culture scene turned his stomach.

"For eight years, Obama was dropping missiles on wedding parties," he said. "A lot of these artists in L.A. were doing pretty pictures. They weren't doing anything."

Prime example: Shepard Fairey, whose art essentially became Obama's campaign poster. And Sabo is more often compared to Banksy -- a conservative inversion of that world-famous street artist and his progressive causes.

You missed it.

Too busy shoving your head up your keister.

Obviously you and "everything is political" Dirk have a huge difference of opinion.
#164 | POSTED BY NULLIFIDIAN

You mean. Dirk and I aren't the same person. But individuals with differing opinions?

Wow! Must really blow your mind.

Especially since you've joined the deplorable's hive mind.

Republican Is the New Punk

No.

It isn't.

And it takes a complete fool to make that silly claim.

As best I can tell, Nike is the new punk.

Look how angry it makes the grumpy old white men.

Yeah, goofy. Bush invented that common idiom "err on the side of (something)" Good trick since it's been in use for a century.

Hmm.
Did you support Operation Desert Storm then, or just now?

Clown, you have backtracked, backpedaled, claim you have never seen Sabo's posters even though you live in LA and are now limiting options of discourse.

You are usually smarter than that, but since you have changed your position at least three times (after getting corrected on numerous occasions), I'm guessing that is making you feel better.

If you are one of LA's Persian Jews, Happy New Year.

Clown, you have backtracked, backpedaled,

Citation necessary.

I haven't. Perhaps his work don't stand out as much as they could. Or perhaps I'm no longer in my twenties and don't hangout on the sunset strip or downtown as much as I used to.

Eitherway. I haven't seen his work. Though. I have spent some time today looking at his work on google images.

and are now limiting options of discourse.

I don't control discourse and have no way of limiting who talks about what.

For the umpteenth time. My issue with this article. As stated in my very first post on this thread. Is the comparison between the artists.

I wish it had never been made. I'd enjoy looking at his art a lot more without the comparison.

#182 | Posted by ClownShack at 2018-09-10 08:27 PM | Reply

RoC. I'll concede and retract this statement.

Neither Banksy nor Shepard Fairey make art to be democrats or because their liberals. Shepard Fairey‘s work isn't even political. Neither is Banksy's.

Shepard Fairey has some political pieces.

Banksy has a few pieces with Trump in it.

But, Banksy also has pieces about Obama's drone policy and of George W BushJr taking off an Obama mask.

Banksy doesn't take sides and calls it as he sees it.

Again. I can't see this article without having to compare artists. It's the author's fault. I'd probably enjoy the parodies he creates a lot more if I wasn't comparing his work to the world of Fairey or Banksy.

This is what I was talking about:

Your options from here are to accept what I'm saying. Or post something stupid in order to troll.

Thanks for telling me what my options were...

You just took care of that in #183...part of the reason that I enjoy talking to you and respect what you have to say is that you can be honest in your posting history.

And I was serious, if it applies, Happy New Year.

Oh. I see what you were referring to.

So, you opted to troll.

Perfect.

I was serious, if it applies, Happy New Year.

Though I'm sure my Jewish Iranian friends appreciate your well wishes. It doesn't apply to me.

My dad was raised in a boarding school run by French monks. My mom would be best described as agnostic. They raised me very nonreligious. Though, my father would take me to Christmas and Easter mass and we always celebrated Christmas and Easter.

I'm "happy" for you, I am heading to a friends for Rosh Hashanah, glad you can loudly proclaim your secular existence. I was just wishing you a Happy New Year if it applied.

BTW, the Savak isn't here in LA, last time I checked.

Wonderful. May you all have a delightful evening.

glad you can loudly proclaim your secular existence.

You asked if I was Jewish. Wanted to clear things up.

Now you know more than you ever cared.

I was just wishing you a Happy New Year if it applied.

And I graciously accept on behalf of all my Jewish friends.

BTW, the Savak isn't here in LA, last time I checked.

This reads like a non sequitur. Had to look up "savak". Looks like it disbanded in 1979.

I suppose you're insinuating I'm lying in order to protect my identity.

You can choose to believe me. Or not. No skin off my teeth.

Looks like it disbanded in 1979.

That was kind of the point, the Savak hunted anti-government agitators for the Shah all over the world until he was deposed.

Much like the SVR morphing from the KGB, the Savak evolved into the SAVAMA/VEVAK and now VEJA under the Mullahs but don't have the worldwide reach that Savak had.
