Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former President Obama tore into President Trump on Friday over what he said was his failure to stand up to Nazi sympathizers. In a fiery speech at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Obama directly took on Trump over one of the most controversial moments of his presidency, when he equivocated in offering blame for violence last summer between white supremacist and Nazis, and their opponents, last year in Charlottesville, Va. "We are Americans. We're supposed to stand up to bullies, not follow them," Obama said. "We're supposed to stand up to discrimination and we're sure as heck supposed to stand up clearly and unequivocally to Nazi sympathizers. "How hard can that be? Saying that Nazis are bad."

We have several Nazi Coddlers around here who do nothing but bring up red herrings for their Red Scare whenever there is a thread about Nazi Marchers.... doing Trump's bidding for him.

@#1 ... When you think your political fortunes depend on Nazis, pretty damned hard. ...

I've often wondered what percentage of Pres Trump's base are in, or are sympathetic towards, some type of Nazi organization.

I figure about half of Republicans fall into the "core Trump supporter" category (i.e., the Trump base), so that's about 10-15% of the electorate. (basing this loosely upon the 25-25-50 Republicans-Democrats-Independents percentages)

Based upon what I've seen in the Republican Party since the Tea Party movement started, I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage is about half of Trump's base.

Which, to your point, may be why Pres Trump seems to have so much difficulty saying, "Nazis are bad."

Any American who can support anyone to defends Nazis isn't an American. We lost 50,000 men on Omaha beach trying to defeat them, and we finally did after many more casualties. We should follow the lead of Germany and criminalize the defense of Nazis. It should be a crime where the culprit could choose prison or permanent exile. Throw this scum out of our country though I doubt they will be happy in Russia which is probably the only s**t Hole that will take them. Freedom of speech should not include Nazi lies. These animals need to be deported, give me 1,000 illegal Mexicans or Guatamalans and I'll be fine, but allow one of these Nazis to exist here I won't be.

All of your numbers ignore voter suppression. There are more Democrats than Republcians, that is a fact but can all the Democrats actually vote? No, thanks to voter suppression techniques that have been developed over the last 20-30 years. Now we have a SC which does rubber stamp that effort. Democracy will not return until there are stronger efforts to bring it back. For now, it's gone, your illigitimate President is appointing iligitmate SC Justices but know this, a reckoning is coming. It won't be pretty.

The funny thing is Russian nationalists are usually the first to accuse people they disagree with of being Nazis or defending Nazis, and you're sounding exactly like them. "Throw people out of our country who don't act like real Americans. America First!" Trump is a toxic troll, and you're a toxic troll feeder.

Based on what? Calling someone out for repeating bigoted North Korean propaganda on a regular basis has nothing to do with that. You must be sympathetic to the troll spouting foreign propaganda. By Danni's logic you should be deported or imprisoned.

How did they have that number? The Nazis extermination of the Jews began six years before September, 1939.

If you mean the start of the war was 12/07/1941 then Hitler had already digested most of the millions of Jews from eastern Europe.

When Trump does the things that Nazis do, his defenders point out that Nazis did lots of things that normal, not-at-all Nazi people do, like blame minorities and immigratns for their countries problems.

Then they provide evidence that immigrants are in fact the problem.

My Aunt fought the Nazis while living with socialists in France. The site of their Villa is a national monument in France. When her luck ran out and she was expelled she returned to America and was part of the Roberts Commission (the monuments men) for which she received a Congressional gold medal. Then since she hadn't done anything with her life she took a job at Princeton as the overseer of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists. Over the decade from 1941 to 1951, she was also involved in a number of humanitarian efforts including the International Rescue Committee, the Progressive Schools Committee for Refugee Children, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

She was a liberal's liberal. Her original purpose to be in France at all was to attend the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie at the Sorbonne in Paris on a Carnegie summer art scholarship.

Yes that's right she had a useless art history major.

Not difficult at all:

"I decry racism and anti-Semitism in every form and strongly condemn the anti-Semitic statements made by Minister Farrakhan. I assume that Trumpet Magazine made its own decision to honor Farrakhan based on his efforts to rehabilitate ex-offenders, but it is not a decision with which I agree." - Barack Obama

I am fearful that as the few remaining people who were there are dwindling rapidly the number of people who have never spoken directly with someone who was there and lived it is falling as well.

Just so everyone understands how far behind we are in education,

From my Aunt's memoirs:

"The Institut d'art et d'archéologie had designed courses for American students who would pay tuition from their stipends. Shortly after my arrival, I was dumbfounded to discover that, normally, university tuition in France was absolutely free -- even for foreigners -- right through the doctorate. European students taking our courses paid no fees. They were scandalized to hear that we did. It was from them that I learned that earning at least room and board in Europe would be easy for me; I could give English conversation lessons. American English was newly respectable."
