Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, September 03, 2018

Once upon a time, in 2015, a writer in San Francisco named Michelle Tea got the idea for "Drag Queen Story Hour": men in full drag reading children's books to kids and parents in programs aimed at providing "positive and unabashedly queer role models."

I think he can only feel adequate when he discovers people he can feel superior to.

Jesus commanded us to love one another. Boaz only references God as a great punisher, who will slay his perceived villains. (Spoiler alert, they are all people who wish to obey Jesus' command to love one another. Well, and Muslims and non whites).

I imagine drag queens are somewhat visible in NO and SF?

My only issue would be to explain a drag queen to a 5 year old.

Maybe that's easy in those cities. Not so easy where I live.

Why should reading children's books to children convince me that we are in the end of days?

Children who are read to have been shown to do better in school as they get older.

A drag queen is a man that likes to wear a dress and they are harmless to children.
Drag queens should not be confused with men that like to wear frocks. Priests should never be allowed near children.

Depends on the situation Bored, otherwise, I might agree. But it's the "man is really a woman" problem I have with it. I dont think we should be normalizing this and acting like a man, just because he wears a dress, is now a woman. It's wrong. Period. It's a sickness and it needs to be treated.

#11, drag queens don't think they're women. Pretty much the definition of drag is dressing up to create an illusion that you're something you know you're not. Not the same thing as people who believe they're the opposite gender and live that way 24/7. Drag is more akin to black face.

I'm ok with a gay man more than I am with TG's. At least a gay man still understands the FACT that he's a man. I can respect that. But to try to get everyone else to go along with an illusion of a man who saying they are a woman is just a step to far.

www.manataka.org

Fiction: American Indians (the Maya) independently invented the wheel, but it isn't a real invention because they only used it for toys.

Fact: Many European scientific inventions started out as toys or "curiosities." These include the telescope and the microscope. "We are more ready to try the untried when what we do is inconsequential," wrote philosopher Eric Hoffer. "Hence the remarkable fact that many inventions had their births as toys."

Narrative: Scholars who use wheeled transportation as a benchmark for measuring civilization rarely take the natural environment into account. Suitable draft animals did not exist in the pre-contact Americas. The two largest animals – bison and llamas – weren't easily domesticated to pull carts or chariots

Terrain was another factor that discouraged the development of wheeled transportation in the Americas. European new to North America often found their wheeled wagons inappropriate for the land they were trying to cross. Frequently they traded this clumsy transport for American Indian forms of transportation – the canoe, snowshoes and toboggans. Indigenous people throughout the Americas used runners to deliver communications. The Inca built a road system that included suspension bridges for their runners.

Failing to consider the environmental context in which American Indian science arose is not only superficial scholarship – it is racist scholarship.

OOPSIE DAISY in triplicate spades.

Drag queens are performers in a costume. That's all. It should be no more distressing to the average person than somebody dressing up like a clown or a mime.

When my kids were young, I'd have no problem with a drag queen reading stories to them at a public event as long as the stories were age appropriate.

"Drag Queen Story Hour"

I was sure this was a Rudy Giuliani thread.

"My only issue would be to explain a drag queen to a 5 year old. Maybe that's easy in those cities. Not so easy where I live."

Why? Are midwestern five year olds somehow different than in other places? My daughter was fine with a matter of fact explanation at that age. They are a weekly occurrence in my neighborhood. She notices them but it's not anything worth stopping in her tracks in confusion or judgment over. They have no bearing on her life for the most part.

"Men call their cars female pronouns all of the time. Many even give them a female name. Yet people like Boaz have trouble with dealing with we transgender people. Makes no sense."

It's the language of the objectification of the feminine. For some a short circuit occurs when dealing with drag queens, where the impulse is still there but it makes them feel uneasy about the habit. There's probably a medical diagnosis for that response in the DSMV.

I would have to say civilization is being pushed to the extreme regardless if this is the end of days.

Religions that have existed out of each others way are finding themselves clashing.

Economic inequality is beginning to take its toll. Countries are abusing debt to compensate for a lack of an equitable distribution of income.

Political discourse is breaking down with no signs of any willingness to find common ground.

Humans are abusing more and more drugs and alcohol to cope with their problems and only increasing the last several decades.

The planet itself is even beginning to show signs of being overwhelmed by an excessive population.

Frankly it's not looking good.
