Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, August 24, 2018

Senator John McCain of Arizona, who has been battling brain cancer for more than a year, will no longer be treated for his condition, his family announced on Friday, a sign that the Republican war hero is most likely entering his final days. "Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the family said in a statement. "With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment."

The son and grandson of four-star Navy admirals who spent more than five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, Mr. McCain rose to become one of the towering figures in American politics, twice seeking the presidency and winning the 2008 Republican nomination for president. In the Senate, he has been both revered as an iconoclast and criticized by many, including Mr. Trump, for his willingness to buck his party on issues like campaign finance reform and, last summer, the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

How sad for him and his family. When we (Mom, Dad, sisters and Dad's doctor) decided to stop dialysis it was with the understanding he would have at best three weeks to live. The decline in those three weeks were horrible.

Prayers of comfort to his family while he is in hospice care.

Very sad. My mother died of cancer when she was only 66. My father was deprived of her company for the next 20 years.

We will miss him when he's gone.

I have been amazed that Sen. McCain has lasted as long as he has. An acquaintance was diagnosed with the same cancer in May last year and passed by September. May his remaining time be spent in the love and comfort of his family. Peace.

Totally respect this decision. If I was in his shoes, I would do the same thing.

Dear John McCain,

It's a shame about that 'sarah palin' moment in your life. You were this close to being president. A blemish on a lifetime of otherwise notable public service.

Please tell the folks in heaven that we are all deeply remorseful about electing Trump. But, even you, a lifelong republican, saw it too, didn't you? That shows the kind of man you are.

Thank you for your service.

I didn't always agree with McCain's opinions, but I respect him very much as a man, as a warrior, and as a public servant.

I hope I live a life even 1/100th as significant as his.

Didn't always agree but had to give him respect.

There is a lot that can be said about John McCain and his service to our country. Some good some bad. But, I will always remember John for this moment: "👎"

So this is for you Senator, 👍

While you are all saying wonderful things about the dying man, take a moment to list all the good things he has done for his constituents. Bills that he has sponsored that have made life better for Americans. Tough votes where he was a maverick. There has to be some good that he has done in congress, right? Something to make up for his -------- vice presidential pick, right? Lets see his good deeds.

I observe the current ---------- that occupy the GOP and realize that McCain was one of the last conservatives.

Funny how few right wingers are willing to acknowledge McCain's contributions to the GOP. If Trump doesn't like him, he is treated by Trump Worshippers like a persona non grata. Pretty sad commentary on the pettiness and bitterness of the typical Trump supporter.

And some people can't even show respect to McCain by keeping a thread about his final decisions Trump free. I'm sure Trump is the last thIng John is thinking of or cares about right now.

Then try saying something positive about McCain. Acknowledge his many accomplishments on behalf of America. Can you do it?

I am still waiting for the "right" leaning people to tell us all the good things that mccain has done. He was good at getting on tv. What did he do for his constituents? Being a cheerleader and reliable vote for evil gop policies doesn't get you into heaven. There has to be a list of his great accomplishments for the American people somewhere. Throw me something that earns him the hero moniker. Bombing civilians in southeast asia don't make him a hero in my book. godspeed straight to hell, war criminal.
