The bomb used by the Saudi-led coalition in a devastating attack on a school bus in Yemen was sold as part of a US State Department-sanctioned arms deal with Saudi Arabia, munitions experts told CNN. Working with local Yemeni journalists and munitions experts, CNN has established that the weapon that left dozens of children dead on August 9 was a 500-pound (227 kilogram) laser-guided MK 82 bomb made by Lockheed Martin, one of the top US defense contractors.

The Obama Administration had banned arm sales to Saudi Arabia. Trump overturned the ban. This is the result. Good job creating more terrorists, Republicans.

The Obama Administration cancelled one sale to the Saudis, that's it. They continued to provided air refueling, training, ramped up provided intelligence to them, and all told sold them over $115 billion in hardware during their tenure.

If you are going to lie, make sure to do it in a way that isn't obvious next time.

The decision to halt sales occurred in 2016 specifically because of the civilian deaths in Yemen. For example, in the fall of 2016, they refused to continue providing air-dropped munitions and precision guided munitions to the Saudis because of EXACTLY what was happening here. Instead, they'd keep refueling and ramp up intelligence sharing as well as focus training on avoiding civilian targets.

Trump said to hell with that. And this is the outcome.

Would you like to try again?

Trump's sales to Saudi Arabia were Obama era holdovers.

Keep voting for hegemony. Get what you get, bitch.

No. The munitions were sold after Trump lifted the ban on munitions sales.

Civilian casualties should be expected. The finger needs to be pointed at the rebel terrorist.

US foreign policy is immoral, illegal and economically unsound.

This war seems to be a Sunni vs. Shiite war, why should we be on one side or the other?

"The finger needs to be pointed at the rebel terrorist."

No, the finger needs to be pointed at the people who dropped the bomb, and those who built and sold the bomb.

Or hey, we could blame those kids, yeah, that would please Patron. You are a sick person Patron. Are you going to honestly pretend you even know why we are helping Saudi in a war on Yemen?

Over 12,000 civilians have been killed since 2015 in the Yemeni civil war, during which the Obama administration sold just Saudi Arabia $115 billion in arms. Also bombing Yemen includes our other client states, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and even Blackwater's airforce. Vice covered the huge stacks of cluster bombs. Nobody cared, Obama was in office.

Obama paused one shipment after over ten thousand civilian deaths and 2 million refugees displaced.

And why should we care that we sold it to them? We have no control over how they think or what they do.

In the 1980s, the Reagan administration armed the mujahideen with deadly Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to battle Soviet aircraft. The Taliban now possess some of those weapons and could use them to shoot down U.S. aircraft in the event of a U.S. assault. But the Taliban aren't the only ones armed with Stingers. Dozens of them have found their way to enemy states and terrorist groups, and other nations have reverse-engineered the weapons to make their own versions of the Stinger.

It would figure that the imbecile who has a record 35 plonks wouldn't remember that.

Sort of reminds me of our arms embargo against Iraq. I saw arms produced by South Africa, France, Italy, Belgium, Russia and even some AKs built in Iran. Any industrial nation can make a 500 pound bomb. They all do. The only place that a arms embargo work are highly sophisticated air craft. But then the Russians and our so called allies in Europe make some very good ones much cheaper than ours.

We STOPPED selling them munitions because of it. ...well, until Trump.

What part of this do you not understand?

Apparently people cared enough to stop selling them munitions.

As a USAF 43151E decades ago I was possibly complicit in civilian casualties when the B52s were not carpet-bombing Cambodia in 1970.

51 died, 79 survived.

Not a very good bomb.

#27 | Posted by getoffmedz at 2018-08-22 11:06 AM | Reply

#27 | Posted by getoffmedz What kills most people when a bomb goes off is not the fragmentation or the direct effects of the blast, it is over pressure. A 500 pound bomb produces a 4 bar over pressure at 50 meters. That is four atmospheres in an millisecond. That is enough to turn your brain into soup. It is about a two bar over pressure at 100 meters. That will crush your chest if you are in the open.
