Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A Green Party candidate for Congress in Ohio's nail-biter contest who won nearly enough votes to throw the race into an automatic recount – gave a speech-slurred interview this year in which he couldn't remember his own website address. Joe Manchik also says he's descended from aliens and hails from the town of Hell, Michigan. In Tuesday's closely watched special election, 1,127 Ohioans chose him over Republican Troy Balderson and Democrat Danny O'Connor. Balderson's apparent margin of victory was just 1,754 votes. Presuming Manchik's base would otherwise have been O'Connor supporters, the result without him would have been a hair's-width away from triggering an automatic recount.

On Facebook Manchik writes that he speaks 19 languages including Spanglish, Nicaraguan Sign Language, Trinidadian English and 'Sheet Music.'

The native of Hell, Michigan says he traces his lineage back to a more far-off place.

'My distant relatives originally came to planet Earth from a planet orbiting a star in the Pleiades star cluster located in the constellation of Taurus,' Manchik writes, boasting that he was 'voted "Class Musician" by my High School graduating class.'

WTF is wrong with people.

Elections are too serious these days to take stupid chances on third parties and everyone should understand this by now.

While Laura is not directly responsible Lauralites are.

So thanks Lauralites.

The loss last night was bad for the country. Having said that, the country gets another chance in that same district in November.

These people have effectively disenfranchised themselves, but that was their choice, not foisted upon them.

He would have got my vote.

True, but that is a deeply blue district and if Balderson is the incumbent he stands a good chance of keeping the seat.

RE#6

I'd say it is more like 50-50.

And it depends on what happens between now and then.

I love to point out all the bad the green party does to humanity but this is clearly l not one of those cases as anyone with a basic understanding of arithmetic can see and it's no surprise that Russians are trying to spread lies and Division.

Sometimes Republicans run "fake" Green Party Candidates in an attempt to split the Democratic vote in order to give the GOP candidate a better chance at winning:

Fake Green Party Candidate Exposed as Having Ties to Republican Congressman

The man who pushed a fake Green Party candidate once interned for Rep. Chris Collins -- the congressman the candidate was supposedly trying to unseat.

The former Green Party candidate in a congressional race has been exposed as a Republican plant with ties to the GOP congressman he supposedly sought to challenge

Michael Zak petitioned to run under the Green Party ticket in New York's 27th congressional district, a seat currently held by Rep. Chris Collins. Zak's candidacy petition listed as the official contact person Ross Kostecky, a local Republican operative who interned on Collins's 2009 campaign for Erie County, New York executive, The Daily Beast has found.

(FYI: Chris Collins is the congressman who got busted for insider trading today.)

Guy with a substance issue who claims alien heritage and is from Hell, fits right in with the DNC demographic.

Presuming Manchik's base would otherwise...

If you have to make stuff up to make your point, you probably don't have a case.

Having a choice is not "bad" and no one is saying it is.

You wanna protect your democracy? Then understand how elections work so we can all pick the better President.

This IS democracy. Picking the best person YOU think will do this country proud. You want to deny those choices to just 2. That is not the American Way. Abe Lincoln was a third party choice slick.

Which exactly why Jefferson constantly reminded us that our Liberty depends our education and good sense. Which is exactly what we missing in this country lately. I used to agree that Democracy Dies in Darkness but now it is dying in the daylight right before our very eyes and we are helping it along with our lack of common sense and ignorance.

It was just not good sense to vote for someone else that could not win just to spite Hillary when in fact she was the best option on the table for this country. Democrats and Independents need to learn how elections work apparently. Voting for someone who does not have a chance to win is wasting your vote and will likely split the vote and allow someone like Trump into the White House. And wasting votes these days is a lot more critical than it used to be. You want to preserve your Liberty then frickin pay attention! Otherwise, you have no right to complain about anything Trump does to you.

"Above all things I hope the education of the common people will be attended to, convinced that on their good sense we may rely with the most security for the preservation of a due degree of liberty." --Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, 1787. Madison Version FE 4:480

It is awfully conceited to believe that if someone does not agree with your opinions ("not good sense" "she was the best") they don't understand how voting works. Every voter had HRC's name as an option on their ballot. If they chose not to make a mark for her, then obviously they didn't agree with your opinions on the matter. Either you respect that they have differing opinions and are free to cast their vote for who they have the common sense to believe is the best option(democracy) or you don't.

Hmm. If the Green party costs democrats votes, does the Libertarian party cost Republicans votes.

Granted, Libertarians believe some pretty stupid things, but sometimes somebody like Ron Paul will say something like "in an empire of lies the truth is treason".

And that you do have to respect.

As well as being Green.

The question is moot.
Votes not cast for democrats are not votes that democrats have 'lost'. They never belonged to democrats.
Votes not cast for republicans are not votes that republicans have 'lost'. They never belonged to republicans.

#20 | Posted by Avigdore at 2018-08-10 09:39 AM | Reply

Anyone who understands our "winner take all" election system understands that third party candidates are just spoilers who usually benefit the Republicans by splitting the Democratic leaning votes. You can say we need "better candidates" but that won't prevent the harm brought to us by Republicans.
