Why is the public so positive about the economy in the first place? The preferred Republican answer is that Trump has turned the economy around with his brilliant combination of deal-making, tax-cutting, and freeing Job Creators of laborious Obama-era regulation. There is no evidence whatsoever for this widespread claim. Ramesh Ponnuru and Michael Strain, two conservative writers, examine a wide array of economic data, and find the economy is performing no better now than it did in Obama's second term. Overall economic growth is the same, and job growth is slightly slower. The Trump tax cut is supposed to spur more investment, which would increase incomes over the long run, but there is no sign of any increased investment so far.

Indeed, by the measure people are most likely to feel directly, real wage growth, things have gotten distinctly worse over the last year.

I'll chime in...but as a moderate.

Most Americans don't understand "real wages" especially Trump supporters. They, at best, understand their own wages.

Most Americans heard that some of their neighbors got a bonus as a result of the tax cut (doesn't mean they actually got one but they believe they got one)

There is no burden to provide real evidence in today's political environment. You can claim anything and place the burden of proving the opposite on everyone else.

Why Does Trump Get More Credit Than Obama?

Because he did more in 18 months than o'bummer did in 8 years.

Or YOU just proved that Eberly is exactly correct.

You really don't have the slightest clue as to how big a useful idiot you are.

Trump could tell you your life would be better if you stuck a fork in a light socket and not only would you do it, but you'd actually claim your life really is better if you survived.

More credit? More than being handed a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing?

Sniper, is it not true that company after company reported a "bonus" being paid to employees and attributed it to the tax cut they received?

that's all I said...and what that means is that Trump is given credit for the bonuses.

I got tons of bonuses between 2008-2012...nobody in the media gave credit for them to Obama.

I'm neither praising nor condemning anybody on this issue......I'm merely explaining why Trump gets more credit.

Why Does Trump Get More Credit Than Obama?

Because he's accomplished a lot more.

Trump has had 3 wives, how many has Obama had? Oh, that's right, he's only had 1.

Trump has had at least 3 bankruptcies. Obama? Zero.

Trump U. How many people has Obama scammed via a fake university? Zero.

How many contractors has Obama stiffed? Zero. Trump has stiffed numerous.

How many ------- has Obama grabbed without consent? Zero. Trump? Too many to count.

Extramarital affairs? Obama - zero (that we know of). Trump? Too many to count.

Trump has banged porn stars and Playboy models. Obama has banged Michelle.

Heck, Trump has even survived his own personal Viet Nam. Obama? Well, he survived Jerimiah Wright's church, so that's something, I guess.

Economy? $85,000,000,000.00 a month in Quantitative Easing under Obama and interest rates lowered to Zero. 5 rate increases under Trump so far.

"5 rate increases under Trump so far.
#20 | POSTED BY SHIRTSBYERIC "

The rate increases are necessary and good for the country so the Fed has some powder to fight the next downturn. That said, we can only imagine what the GDP growth rate would be without the Fed tapping on the breaks.

But, reporters like this show themselves to be a complete joke. Trump achieves full employment and the economy is coaxing non-participants to re-join the workforce. If the number of workers was the same as Obama had, we would be at 2.9% unemployment now - it is better to be at 3.9% and workers rejoining the productive class again though. If Trump would hit zero unemployment, NY Magazine and NYT would be crowing how new job creation was at zero and it was bad for the country.
