Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 08, 2018

Last February, shortly after Peter O'Rourke became chief of staff for the Department of Veterans Affairs, he received an email from Bruce Moskowitz with his input on a new mental health initiative for the VA. "Received," O'Rourke replied. "I will begin a project plan and develop a timeline for action." O'Rourke treated the email as an order, but Moskowitz is not his boss. In fact, he is not even a government official. Moskowitz is a Palm Beach doctor who helps wealthy people obtain high-service "concierge" medical care. More to the point, he is one-third of an informal council that is exerting sweeping influence on the VA from Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump's private club in Palm Beach, Florida. The troika is led by Ike Perlmutter, the reclusive chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who is a longtime acquaintance of President Trump's. The third member is a lawyer named Marc Sherman. None of them has ever served in the U.S. military or government.

It is beginning to look as if Mar-a-Lago is becoming a political backroom "cabinet" for Pres Trump, away from the usual checks and balances, e.g., Senate confirmation.

Perlmutter, Moskowitz and Sherman declined to be interviewed and fielded questions through a crisis-communications consultant. In a statement, they downplayed their influence, insisting that nobody is obligated to act on their counsel. Yet they do. Is this arrangement even legal?

#3 "Is this arrangement even legal?"

The stuff of gavels and documents, a violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act of 1972 would force these three to keep their windows up upon entry into Mar-a-Lago.

This would be corporate run healthcare because your President is outsourcing it to his buddies so they can make a buck.

Medicare and Medicaid work pretty well and are more cost effective then private insurance. In fact, Conservative think tanks keep accidentally proving it.

Medicare and Medicaid get away with reimbursing providers below cost because private insurers more than make up the difference. It's a hidden tax.

No they don't. They pay for what the actual procedure costs not what the hospital charges.

www.annarbor.com

In Michigan, the most expensive hospital charge is for ventilator support for 96 hours or more at the University of Michigan Health System: $203,249. That's about $70,000 more than the second-highest charge at a Michigan hospital for the procedure - which can be found at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where $134,511 is the charge.

Just a few miles away from UMHS's Ann Arbor campus at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township, the charge is $119,767 for the same procedure.

And the lowest charge in the state for ventilator support -- $41,199 -- is at Garden City Hospital in Garden City.

Medicaid and Medicare pay more per service than any other country, so it is a lie that they pay below cost. The cost of US healthcare is inflated by about 100% due to price gouging and inefficiencies absent in public payer systems.
