Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, August 05, 2018

On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted confirmation that his son, Donald Trump Jr., had met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in 2016 "to get information" on Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr., along with Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, took the meeting because they believed Veselnitskaya had "dirt" on Clinton.

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere. I did not know about it! 5:35 AM - Aug 5, 2018

So. I haven't really weighed in on the whole Trump/Russia collusion much, mainly because I don't know what was done, who did what, what happened, and whether any of it is actually illegal.

But Trump has been adamant that nothing ever happened. Yet. He's been lying this whole time. (shocking, I know)

Conservatives don't care. Because Trump is handing them the judicial branch. Because, for whatever the reason, conservatives hate civil rights, equal treatment under the law, allowing other to live their lives the way they see fit. And the judicial branch is their way of forcing Americans to abide by their dogmatic values.

But. The President is a lying sack of excrement.

Wake the ---- up.

Trump Confesses That His Campaign Turned to Russia for Help

Trump is a traitorous scumbag.

#6 | Posted by PinchALoaf at 2018-08-05 09:44 PM | Reply | Funny: 1

While Trump has claimed since taking office that "no collusion" occurred between his campaign and Russia and that Mueller was conducting a "witch hunt," Trump's acceptance of Russian help has been out in the open since the final month of the 2016 campaign.

Throughout that October, Trump cited emails disseminated by WikiLeaks on a near daily basis ― even though he began receiving briefings in August 2016 that told him that U.S. intelligence agencies had determined those emails had been stolen by Russian spies. U.S. intelligence made that assessment public in an Oct. 7 statement.

Trump publicly denied that it was even possible to know who had stolen the emails, at times blaming it on other countries, a 400-pound man sitting in his bed or someone from New Jersey.

In other words Trump publicly contradicted what US intelligence told him and was fully aware that he was using stolen property to advance his electoral chances. If that's not conscious corroboration then the term has no real meaning.

Trump's sudden admission about Junior makes me think that Rudy has been snooping in the evidence box again.

Gee, I wonder if that's going to be the next shoe to drop.

So, the investigation hinges on Trump admitting members of his administration met with Russian intelligence to purchase "dirt", and not on the facts that they have already been found complicit? What should his opinion or acknowledgement matter legally whatsoever?

It matters because all the stupid, simple minded sheeple worshipping at Trumps feet, people like Fishpaw and Sniper, don't believe anything bad the media presents about their Savior. But if Trump, in his own words, is admitting to the behavior, they have no where left to turn than outright lies. Proof means nothing to rightwingers. Trump's admissions though are problematic for them.

"At what point is there going to be consequences for this guy?"

The fact that Trump is trying to run interference for Junior with this sudden admission means he's trying to take the sting off the upcoming conspiracy charges against his son. Legally, it's a feeble exercise in futility. The consequences will come when Mueller uses Junior as leverage to reel Trump into the conspiracy.

There are two questions ~~ (1) - What did Trump know and when did he know it? and (2) - Will Junior barter his Dad for less prison time?

There's no doubt that Mueller is building an air-tight box around the real target ~ Donald J. Trump.

Junior, Kushner, Cohen, Manafort, et al, are all going to do time but I believe their real usefulness to the investigation is to put nails in Trump's coffin.

It also appears that a tiny bit of reality is starting to take seed in Trump's panic stricken mind.

It matters because obstruction of justice requires intent. This statement from Trump may be used to help establish that intent in regard to his previous false statements about the meeting.

Why does everyone assume that the meeting was only successful if information was transferred at the meeting itself? Was Veselnitskaya going to walk in with a big fat dossier and hand it over? How 1971. Was she supposed to walk in with a USB stick? How 2007. DCLeaks was set up something like the day before the meeting, and wikileaks began its leaking shortly after. All she had to do to was tell the Trump team that they had hacked DNC servers and would start releasing the emails through online leak channels, and offer to coordinate on the timing of releases during the rest of the campaign to maximize the political trouble it caused (or maybe she didn't even have to say that). Otherwise, hold tight and watch, Trump team.... The meeting is presented as one in which no information passed hands.

...I take it as basically a given that this claim is a lie.

Still, no one seems interested in the "plastic folder" of papers that Veselnitskaya brought to that June 9, 2016, meeting and left behind. Who got it? Where is it now? What is, or was, in it?

#26 | Posted by nimbleswitch at 2018-08-06 10:19 AM | Reply

#26 - why do you assume that no one is interested? If that folder existed then I'm sure Robert Mueller is interested in the content.

#27 - I certainly hope Mueller is interested in Veselnitskaya's "plastic folder" of papers she brought to the June 9, 2016, meeting. I still haven't seen it discussed on CNN or MSNBC, and if it occasionally gets mention in the print media, I haven't read interest in what was in it, who got it, and what was in it. Also, I've brought it up on this board a few times, and yours is the only response of which I'm aware. Seems like rather a key item of evidence, doesn't it?

#28 | Posted by nimbleswitch at 2018-08-06 11:14 AM | Reply

NIMBLE

Judging by the way Mueller is conducting his leak proof investigation there's no doubt that Mueller has a trove of "key items of evidence" to which we're not entitled (not should we be). Only the defense is entitled to discovery. You might want to consider that the defense doesn't want that information out there either, especially if it's incriminating.

Nimble, to my knowledge, the only source to come forward to claim such a folder existed is a former Russian intelligence officer. His story is plausible but without collaboration, I would not consider him to be a reliable source. Until there is some collaboration for the info, I don't think it merits discussion beyond saying I'm sure Mueller is/has chasing that thread and if we ever find out where it leads, it will be at the time of his choosing

Trump critics are a joke. As part of a campaign Trump supporters meet with Russians to get dirt on Hillary Clinton. When they get nothing they walk away. Meanwhile Hillary uses a law firm to get around campaign finance laws and pays millions to one of her supporters to contact Russians and get dirt on Trump. She is provided a document defaming Trump passed off as intelligence. Does anyone really think Putin was not behind the Trump document? Putin wanted to mess up the election and did not care who won. More stupid thinking by Trump critics is thinking this is something new. Russia has tried to influence American politics for years. Many probably are ignorant of the the fact that Bernie Sanders at one time had a Russian flag in his office and went to Russia on his honeymoon. No doubt there will be attempts by Russia, China, North Korea and others to influence the 2018 election. The reports so far seem to indicate the election influence involves setting up phony accounts or buying ads on social media. Personally I am less concerned about this type of interference then actual voting by unauthorized voters. In California one can vote by mail and in at least one county a notice is sent out to confirm you are still eligible to vote. If you do not reply to the notice you get a ballot. I wonder how many ballots are sent to people who have moved and who uses these ballots.

As part of a campaign Trump supporters meet with Russians to get dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Which is a crime.

She is provided a document defaming Trump passed off as intelligence

It was intelligence (much of which has been proven true) gathered by an intelligence gathering company and by a British spy originally paid for by the RNC.

Does anyone really think Putin was not behind the Trump document? Putin wanted to mess up the election and did not care who won.

No one thinks that Putin was behind the Dossier. A British agent was behind the dossier. And Putin has already admitted he wanted Trump to win.

Many probably are ignorant of the the fact that Bernie Sanders at one time had a Russian flag in his office and went to Russia on his honeymoon.

Typical red baiting and another red herring by Republicans. RED-BAITING

Personally I am less concerned about this type of interference then actual voting by unauthorized voters.

That's a bit like being concerned you are out of beer when your house is on fire. There is little to no voter fraud. There is massive Russian hacking.

In California one can vote by mail and in at least one county a notice is sent out to confirm you are still eligible to vote. If you do not reply to the notice you get a ballot. I wonder how many ballots are sent to people who have moved and who uses these ballots.

In California if you vote by mail then show up to vote you only get a Provisional Ballot. Your vote does not even count unless there is a recount, Then it will have to be verified that you only voted once and it was a legal vote.

No doubt there will be attempts by Russia, China, North Korea and others to influence the 2018 election.

Almost missed that little attempted deflection. Our intel agencies are ALL warning that our elections systems, IT infrastructures, and our social media are all under attack by Russian hackers. I would say that goes a bit beyond just attempting to "influence" our elections.

It grows geometrically now, because it compounds itself. That'll be clear as I explain, you know, some of the details of why it is, and it basically is because, one, we're being blackmailed; two, people are going to start perjuring themselves very quickly that have not had to perjure themselves to protect other people and the like.
