Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 01, 2018

President Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday a call to Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end Robert Mueller's Russia probe immediately, escalating his attacks on the inquiry. ... Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called the president's tweet "just another attempt to make the American people look at his latest shiny object." In a post on Twitter Wednesday, Schumer quoted the president's tweet and wrote: "The Mueller-Rosenstein investigation is making progress at record speed: 35 indictments, 5 guilty pleas & Trump's campaign chairman on trial."

Looks like Pres Trump is continuing his endeavor to taint Mr Mueller and his investigation, ironically, at a time when Mr Mueller supposedly is looking at Pres Trump's use of tweets for possible obstruction of justice.

@RepAdamSchiff
The President of the United States just called on his Attorney General to put an end to an investigation in which the President, his family and campaign may be implicated.

This is an attempt to obstruct justice hiding in plain sight. America must never accept it."

This is Trump panicking big time. Mueller has gotten into his head.... better yet, he's gotten into Trump's lawyer's visit to Prague to coordinate payment of money to Russian hackers.

@#6 ... Irony, stopping the probe means ending the investigation into Podesta Group. ...

Wasn't the investigation into the Podesta Group handed off to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York?

Sources say this investigation follows a referral from the special counsel's office and is said to involve registration of work as foreign agents.

Vin Weber and former Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig are all under federal investigation by prosecutors for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, multiple sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News on Tuesday.

To recap what's happened to former Trump staff:

1) George Papadopoulos, former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, pleaded guilty in October to making false statements to the FBI.

2) Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty in December to making false statements to the FBI.

3) Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chair, was indicted in October in Washington, DC on charges of conspiracy, money laundering, and false statements -- all related to his work for Ukrainian politicians before he joined the Trump campaign. He's pleaded not guilty on all counts. Then, in February, Mueller filed a new case against him in Virginia, with tax, financial, and bank fraud charges.

4) Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign aide and Manafort's longtime junior business partner, was indicted on similar charges to Manafort. But in February he agreed to a plea deal with Mueller's team, pleading guilty to just one false statements charge and one conspiracy charge.

Not only to correct the RanDom use Of Capitalization, but to say, "Uh, Mr. President, I would not advise directly commenting on your own attorney general's role in this probe. It might raise questions about your motive and suggest to some that you are, in fact, obstructing justice, which would actually give the investigation new legs."

But then again, when you have a paranoid, not-that-bright megalomaniac in the Oval Office, it's certainly not a surprise.

Could be, there would have to be a superseding indictment filed (like in Manafort) tying the US citizens into the Russian's activities. Having read those indictments, however, it seems to me that it would be difficult to have a linkage to anyone here in the US (outside of the IT/Social Media world or within the hacked targets) given the underlying facts.

What is more likely, IMO, is a new series of indictments that names both US and Russian citizens in a wholly unrelated set of charges.

Much like we indicted and will continue to indict other players in the Russian interference and Trump crime family related activities to establish their existence and to provide the basis for obtaining further information from witnesses to complete a report that may or may not lead to conspiracy and obstruction charges either in court or in Congress via Mueller's report.

Leaked Chats Show Alleged Russian Spy Seeking Hacking Tools
www.securityweek.com

...MOSCOW (AP) -- Six years ago, a Russian-speaking cybersecurity researcher received an unsolicited email from Kate S. Milton.

Milton claimed to work for the Moscow-based anti-virus firm Kaspersky. In an exchange that began in halting English and quickly switched to Russian, Milton said she was impressed by the researcher's work on exploits -- the digital lock picks used by hackers to break into vulnerable systems -- and wanted to be copied in on any new ones that the researcher came across.

"You almost always have all the top-end exploits," Milton said, after complimenting the researcher about a post to her website, where she often dissected malicious software.

"So that our contact isn't one-sided, I'd offer you my help analyzing malicious viruses, and as I get new samples I'll share," Milton continued. "What do you think?"

The researcher -- who works as a security engineer and runs the malware-sharing site on the side -- always had a pretty good idea that Milton wasn't who she said she was. Last month, she got confirmation via an FBI indictment.

The indictment, made public on July 13, lifted the lid on the Russian hacking operation that targeted the 2016 U.S. presidential election. It identified "Kate S. Milton" as an alias for military intelligence officer Ivan Yermakov, one of 12 Russian spies accused of breaking into the Democratic National Committee and publishing its emails in an attempt to influence the 2016 election....

Trump now calls on Sessions to UNrecuse himself and shut down the Mueller investigation. Interesting on two fronts:

1. Sessions recused himself from having anything to do with the special counsel's investigation. If he can't thereafter have ANY say in it, he certainly cannot shut it down -- "as any fool can plainly see." (Al Capp)

2. "There was no collusion," so Trump has nothing whatsoever to fear. Of course, "collusion" is layman's language for "conspiracy." And it appears from what we now know that Trump Jr., Kushner, Manafort and, yes, Trump Sr. himself, conspired aforehand to meet with Russian, Putin-controlled lawyer Veselnitskaya to affect the 2016 election. The fact that, through no fault of the four Americans, the meeting itself produced no great results is irrelevant. The fact is, those four Americans conspired to meet with a Russian government operative for the purpose of affecting a U.S. federal election -- for president, no less. And in favor of the candidate favored by the Russian government. That's a conspiracy to commit treason. Period. And that is a crime, and that's impeachable and convictable.

"Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now," the president tweets. "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!"

So this gets the usual liberal translation to "Trump tells Sessions to end this now!" LOL

"Fishpaw should go play in traffic right now."

Hilarious that anyone would suggest I ever told Fishpaw to go play in traffic! LOL

Fish paw doesn't need to be told that based on his posts it's clear he's already played in traffic and is now living off social security.

You read them. I'm still at 1 plonk.

We know who the culprit was, we have a solid grasp on what they did between social media spam and email hacks. Actual names and evidence, if it matters, will come up in the Manafort trial. Putting people on trial that will never be tried, not even absentia, is a dog & pony show. If they actually try them, it's not a waste, but I'd bet on waste.

Ironic that my post had nada to do with any Clinton, but you couldn't help yourself bringing her up.

I was under the impression that the Podesta story was only interesting because he worked for the Hillary campaign and, according to right wingers, is an important piece of the puzzle that Hillary was the real colluder.

If that's incorrect I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

"Right Now!" That sounds like a direct order to me. Panic button time, actually.

I have a feeling that Giuliani has been rummaging through some evidence boxes and discovered some really, really bad news.

You think Donald would take a bullet if he had reasonable assurances it would secure his place in the annals of history as a President on par with Lincoln or Kennedy? (Astute readers will notice I didn't say Garfield or McKinley.)

I'm kind of wondering if Trump has an exit strategy, and if so, what's it look like, presuming it's a bit more sophisticated than bunking with Edward Snowden somewhere in Russia.

Here's yet another classic moment when Trump supporters claim this is just his "opinion" but oh yeah Sessions should stop the probe right now of course.

SNOOFY @ 74

Trump? Take a bullet? Oh hell, no. Trump is a coward to his very core. Beside that, he's already a martyr in his own mind, i.e. witch hunt.

Although I would find some irony if a bullet came from one of those 3-D plastic guns.

Exit strategy? No to that, too. Unless you want to call walking away from one of his self-inflicted disasters and pretending it didn't happened. That's more Trump's speed.

I have a vague impression of Mutant as someone who makes remarks I kind of appreciate but are way out in left field.

Lately it's weird. Who knows, maybe he got hacked by the Russians who set up his account in the first place.

the DR is still anonymous. Nobady (except Rcade) knows who I am and hopefully never will.

If a trumpster ever figures out who I am then I am done here. Trumpsters are making it clear that if they can stop the messengers from speaking the Truth then they will.

"Should." "Should." Trump was only telling Jeff Sessions his opinion. Just his opinion. He wanted Sessions to know his opinion on the "Rigged Witch Hunt." Trump thought that Sessions wasn't already aware of his opinion on that. So he told him. By a tweet that went out to billions of people. So Sessions would know. Makes good sense. If you're dumber than a mop handle.
