Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Federal Emergency Management Agency's warehouse on Puerto Rico was full of supplies for an event just like Hurricane Maria: a quarter-million meals, 718,370 liters of water, 4,422 cots and 13,272 tarps. But a new report says FEMA removed most of those supplies just days before Maria hit, sending them to the U.S. Virgin Islands, which had just been struck by Hurricane Irma. By Sept. 15, FEMA had taken out 90 percent of the bottled water, 61 percent of the meals and 100 percent of the tarps and cots from its warehouse. Five days later, Maria struck Puerto Rico, closing its ports and preventing FEMA from shipping supplies back onto the island.

Trump blasted reporting from Puerto Rico as ‘fake news.' Heeding it might have saved lives.

Everything was going great, he said.

This was not a real catastrophe like Hurricane Katrina, he reassured the public, and any reports to the contrary were nothing but fake news -- the president's go-to expression for anything he doesn't want to hear.

The White House even put out a propaganda video to prove how swell everything was supposedly going.

Its first screen, showing government choppers to the rescue, accompanied by dramatic music, featured these words: "What the Fake News Media Will Not Show You in Puerto Rico."

"Because of #FakeNews my people are not getting the credit they deserve for doing a great job," Trump tweeted.

And in another tweet: "Results of recovery efforts will speak much louder than complaints by San Juan Mayor."

Those words rang hollow then -- and, now, a stunning report from FEMA itself shows just how wrong his upbeat assessment was.

The Washington Post

Can't blame Trump for not knowing how bad it was going to be or for the warehouse being empty, but his ego and his fake news made things way worse than they needed to be.

If he was a decent human being he would have at least quietly sounded the alarm. But no - he's obsessed with winning so "winning" it was. Everybody's saying it was the greatest relief effort in history!

Trump will make Puerto Rico an independent nation before he lifts a finger to help the tiny island territory.

No surprise that Trump decided to rescue US Virgins at the expense of Puerto Ricans.

Also no surprise that you don't realize that the USVI are 76% black...how dare FEMA help out the non-latinos who were devastated by Irma.

"the USVI are 76% black"

One of Trump's strategies is to pit the blacks against the Hispanics.

Its easy to understand this action. There are more one percenters on the Virgin Islands than in Puerto Rico.

These are not coincidences.

There is a definite pattern of Executive Branch abuse.
