Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Fintan O'Toole: To grasp what is going on in the world right now, we need to reflect on two things. One is that we are in a phase of trial runs. The other is that what is being trialled is fascism -- a word that should be used carefully but not shirked when it is so clearly on the horizon. Forget "post-fascist" -- what we are living with is pre-fascism. It is easy to dismiss Donald Trump as an ignoramus, not least because he is. But he has an acute understanding of one thing: test marketing.

Putting Children in Cages Was Test Run for Fascism

Fat Americans in cages?

Just look at how quick and easy it was for so many to support separating children and throwing them into cages. What will these people be willing to support years from now?

There was more concern expressed for those boys in the cave in Thailand than for thousands of children separated from their parents and held in prison camps.

MSGT is correct but:

"Though the photos are nearly identical to those from 2014, there is one key difference between them: the 2014 photos showed only children who arrived at the border unaccompanied. The 2018 photos also show families that have been separated from one another."

Hey! Another opinion piece thread.

Disclaimer: I love the Irish people.

This 'opinion' is truly a bunch of trash, but it's hard to be too harsh considering some factors involved.

Go into any pub in Ireland and, as long as no horse racing or hurling is on TV, you will be watching Sky News, which is equivalent to MSNBC. Having watched many hours of Sky News coverage, I can say with utter certainty that it is a very biased source. This is, by far, the main source of information about the rest of the world that the Irish have.

I'd say the next source for information in line would have to be the tourist's which, obviously, are opinionated sources at best. I hesitate to say this, but it's true. The Irish just do not have a diverse range of sources of global information. The internet is available in many areas, when the signal is strong anyway but, with the younger crowd Facebook seems to be more popular than in America's generation of today.

I could write well over the 4,000 word limit on all this, but I know it's of no interest for most.

I'll just end by saying, O'Toole, and the rest of Ireland have no business at all speaking to immigration in other countries.

From Wikipedia: Ethnic backgrounds: White Irish: 82.2%, White Irish Traveller: 0.7%, Other White: 9.5% (total White: 92.4%), Asian: 2.1%, Black: 1.3%, Other: 1.5%, Not Stated: 2.6% (2016)

Again, again and again those were unaccompanied children. They weren't forcibly separated from their parents. They went through the process as quickly as possible and weren't kept in cages for weeks.

Trump officials have already admitted they've enacted this new and cruel policy on purpose.

We had an army of people march to our border promising to cross it illegally. I still don't like the way it was decided to be handled, but what would you have done, personally, if you were in charge?

Woops. Never mind. My guess would be you'd do as Obama would have and just said, 'come on in!'.

This is not a a simple or single issue, yet this is how the left is trying to portray it. It's the same tactic that's been used by the left for some years now. Take a complex issue, pick one part of it that is controversial, and then scream and rant and cry, but most of all chant it over and over.

Seriously, we've had much worse done to us, as American citizens, for decades. All in the name of 'National Security'. This is not excusing the topic at hand; rather trying to express a far worse problem that affects all of us, and that has been perpetrated by our intelligence agencies & allowed to happen by our politicians.

This fact makes the outrage from the left over this misguided, false, or insincere at best.

Alex, 1st off, I'm not paid to be here as some seem to be, so your cricket was premature.

If you are unable to understand what we have lost forever in the name of National Security then you are beyond any help I can give. Time is the only hope you have to see your eyes opened to the realities of the government you think you live under.

As for kids being taken from Americans....well, my friend, parents in America watch their kids taken on a daily basis, based only on a judgment call by CPS or whatever 3 letter abbreviation a state gives that vile institution. Never mind the kids taken because a judge thinks it's the right call.

Lastly, are you claiming that these kids will never be reunited with their parents?

Y'all are seriously so full of it and the wordage, so often used, shows it.

Oh, you never answered my question about what you might have done. Maybe I should throw a cricket up there for you. It would certainly be applicable at least.

That sounds very different than Trump's Zero Tolerance blanket policy that separated and detained 100% of children.

1st let me say, I agree with you & understand how some things I say could be taken as trying to be coy.

All I can say to that is if I typed out, in detail, some positions I have & take, I doubt many would want to read thru more than two paragraphs. Not to mention it would likely take me a few hours just to put it all together in a coherent way.

I know it is expecting too much of most anyone to read between the lines of something written on a blog like this. Hell, I didn't read between the lines with JP up thread a bit. It ain't easy for damn sure.

To the manufacturer question. I'm not sure there are many on the planet who could give a definitive answer to that. All I have is what I'd call an educated opinion that, for me, is based in reality because I've witnessed it all take place, or have studied the history of it before my time, and have listened to the great thinkers of our time, intently.

The manufacturer, or manufacturer's are, to put it simply, the established in both parties of our government. That's the simple way to put it. To go further with it would include those paragraphs I mentioned. Suffice to say, the bankers, of which there are 4 who act as 1, who control the federal reserve, which in turn controls the US government and any major politician, which means control over most US policies, elections....IOW's, control the damn country.

They would be my top pick for who manufactures what happens globally, and without question control both major parties of government in the US. They also have the same control over London and Europe. Call it conspiracy theory but people far smarter than I'll ever be see this as our reality, and I've come to see it as well.

Sorry if I did a poor job explaining my thoughts but I m rushing as I've gotta get out the door!

I don't see putting children in cages as a test run for fascism. It's more likely a case of "The best laid plans of men and mice often go awry" ~ with Trump being the mouse . . . or sewer rat, if you will.

As usual, Trump's plan was to administer the harshest penalty he could think of punish immigrants (i.e future Democrats) for trying to come to this (his) country. What better a deterrent than to take their children away from them PERMANENTLY and in the most inhumane manner possible to send a message to future asylum seekers. The news about a cruel and draconian president of the U.S. went viral around the world.

Trump's problem has always been he gets big headed and sloppy, always believing that he can outmaneuver the law by way of his position. That probably worked well in his real estate business but federal judges are not so easily swayed by his bluster and swagger. (Republican Supreme Court justices excepted of course).

This is a comeuppance that Trump, with his customary lack of foresight, didn't anticipate.

The recent children in cages photos were from a rally. Maybe that passes for Antifa daycare? www.snopes.com

The government has put kids in something like cages before. But the images that came out in June were snapped in 2014 during the previous administration and circulated by an former Obama aide. www.google.com

"... the fact of the matter is, and y'all know this to be true, is that Trump is no republican. I think that bugs some of you more than anything else."

That would explain the unanimous opposition of Republicans against him.

And it was short term holding of children who came to the U.S. without their parents. They were then processed out as quickly as possible and put into the custody of any relatives available. It was not done as a punishment though that is what the Trump supporters want us to believe because then their guilt would be lessened for the despicable treatment they have given to children who came here with their parents and then were separated from them as a punishment.

Is there any evidence kids have been put in actual cages under the current administration?

You mean other than photographs and video?

Why else would Trump and his deplorables try to play the "but the Dems did it tooooooo" game?

I'm sure all of us know people who use those dog cages, at least I know I do. So many of them tell me their dogs like being in those cages. I've never believed it. The government is apparently trying to tell us that these kids are ok with living in cages. I don't believe a word of it. America really does need to take a good look at itself, we are allowing a crime against humanity to happen right before our eyes. I am personally ashamed that I am not doing more to stop it, I should be at one of these places protesting every day. Perhaps my weekend will include a trip to Homestead where there is one of these prison camps. Not promising but I hope I find the energy and courage to do something.

"The manufacturer, or manufacturer's are, to put it simply, the established in both parties of our government."

That's called "representative democracy."

> everything I don't like is fascism

This is certainly a winning strategy. Liberals just need to shriek about 20% louder than they are currently, and the blue wave cannot fail to materialize!

"To go further with it would include those paragraphs I mentioned. Suffice to say, the bankers, of which there are 4 who act as 1, who control the federal reserve"

That's because, under the current understanding of the First Amendment to the Constitution, the individuals who represent "us" in our "representative democracy" rely on private money to finance their public campaigns.

So naturally they have to grovel before the wealthy to get that money.

Increasingly, people on the right don't see any problem with this, which is a change that's come about over the past 20 years or so, certainly since McCain-Feingold became law.

Ah, the good old hypocritical news article. One side using an established grouping (fascism) to identify the other side, and everyone on that side agrees and says how it's a huge problem. Then the other side does the same thing to them (communistic socialists) and they start whining and crying while that side agrees with it and says it's a huge problem.

The dance never stops.

The dog cages were as protests these days and during the Obama administration as de riguer. There is no "Trump did it too" because it has not been that way to this round. The underlying assumptions of the article are either false or 4 years too late.

Fascism requires too much record keeping to suit Trump. Trump acts like a spoiled boy King.

'The dance never stops."

Sorry stupid, seperating parents from children is never ok. Got it? Good.
Oh, and today's orders which were reported on many news sites, the Trump administration is ordering the border patrol to ignore all requests for asylum and to deport all of them, this is evil, this is psycho territory. Join if you want, but there will be an accounting. Trump and his followers are human rights violators, this is in UN Chargers, rejecting asylym refugees is a crime against humanity. Those of you who support this, just know, I consider you to be Nazis. You are Nazis. I hope you enjoy your new identdity, you are quite sickening. Live with yourselvesm, if you can. I doubt that, long term, you will be able to. I couldn't if I were you. God, you folks are sad. You are also garbage and should be collected with the rest of the trash tomorrow morning.

"Geneva conventions (other treaties are sometimes cited, or the more vague international law) state that those fleeing must seek asylum in the 'first safe country' they come to..."

That would be Mexico, for central american refugees.

Shortly after America is safe for its own citizens.

"When will Mexico actually be safe, even for its own citizens?"

When America ends the prohibition on drugs and destroys the cash cow of the cartels. See the movie "Key Largo." It should be required viewing for all Americans.

While I am very much in favor of decriminalizing / legalizing recreational pharmaceuticals, to say that will cure all of Mexico's woes is a stretch I can't reach. I do like me coked out soccer moms, so I'm rooting for your suggested solution.

It looks like AMLO will be enforcing Mexico's southern border AND its northern border. They're gonna do that without MSM cameras trained on the officers and in a country where the moral outrage trigger seems to be higher. The less undocumented aliens that get into and through Mexico, the less that can move northward into the US. Because math.

I'm in favor of this three pronged attack on immigration that we're talking about - secure the US border, support Mexico in its effort to secure its borders, and legalize the drugs. Hopefully we're adult enough as a country to handle it.

there is zero excuse at all to forcibly separate children from their families.

Some of these kids will never see their parents again.

If you support this or excuse it, you are a disgrace and i wish the worst for you.
