Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A top Republican senator shocked his colleagues when he suggested, after returning from a trip to Moscow with fellow GOP lawmakers, that U.S. sanctions targeting Russia were not working and the Kremlin's election interference was really no big deal. Now, the senators who joined him for the series of meetings with senior Russian officials are sharply disputing not only Sen. Ron Johnson's (R-WI) conclusions -- but also his account of what went on behind closed doors in Moscow.

More from article:

Kennedy said the senators confronted the Russians about election interference in 2016. Kennedy said the senators warned the Russians if they interfere in the November election, Congress "will hit you with sanctions even harder than what we have right now."

He said the Russian response was to deny that they interfered in the election. "Deny, deny, deny," he said.

"I thought it was important for us to look them in the eye and say, ‘Hey, we know what you're doing,'" Kennedy said.

Kennedy's takeaway from the meeting was that "what Russia wants is what Mr. Putin wants. And what Mr. Putin wants is status."

"It's really like dealing with the mafia."

"Their philosophy is money and power."

Oh, they're Republicans. Who does this clown think he is kidding?

"what (Trump) wants is what Mr. Putin wants. And what Mr. Putin wants is status."

Makes more sense when you read it that way.

The basic premise of eliminating the sanctions after they did meddle in our elections and plan on doing so in the future is unAmerican. The Russians are currently waging war in Ukraine in their attempt to take more parts of that nation as they did with Crimea, this is ongoing, men are dying daily in this war which is seldomly reported here in the U.S. Ukraine now has weapons to fight against Russian tanks and is possibly going to retake Donestk though Putin threatens major war if they do. Putin's forces are naming tank batallions after cities in Ukraine, Poland and other nations, what do you think he is hinting? And now our traitor president is going to meet with him one on one and give him permission to do whatever he wants with no response at all from America. We all know that is what this meeting is about but many of us think it is PC to pretend we don't.

"And what Mr. Putin wants is status."

In order to achieve Russia's former status as a world power (U.S.S.R.) he needs a little helping hand from Trump to destroy the only thing blocking Russia's path . . . NATO.

First, however, Trump has to convince the United States that up is down and wrong is right and the moon is made of green cheese. His method, as usual, is propaganda against those who are our staunchest allies which, if repeated often enough (per Joseph Goebbels), the big lie (per Joseph Goebbels) will become fact and thus provide Trump with the excuse he needs to abandon the Alliance that kept peace in Europe since World War !!.

Trump and Putin are greasing the wheels for World War 111 (in case nobody has noticed) and the paper tigers we laughingly call "Congress" are watching it all unfold.

We have one good, clear shot to stop this madness in it's tracks. NOVEMBER!

If this isn't a piece of background info for a new Tom Clancy/John LeCarre genre book, then you sure fooled me. CITIZENS UNITED..CUSSR

TWINPAC's post is one of the most important statements ever made on this site. Read it, understand it, believe it. She is telling you what your news media doesn't tell you. Thanks Twinpac! Trump is selling out our nation and NATO. Former vassal states of the USSR are shaking right now while our President is going to APPEASE a dictator. This isn't a movie, this is real. The Cabinet should already be using the 25th Amendment to remove this traitor. I don't like Mike Pence but, so far, I don't suspect him of being a traitor, I know Trump is though.

To think that anyone knows what Trump's plan is (including Trump) is humorous.
To think that Danni knows what he's planning is hilarious.

What big lie would that be, Twinpac?

i agree with you but the fact of the matter is we live in a country where a large percentage of the people agree with trumps' stated agenda. I would be willing to bet that a comprehensive poll, say 150 questions, of WHITE people in the USA and a similar number of russians whose incomes most closely compared to the average wage of the surveyed americans. if the questions would ask about race relations, gender rights, civil disobedience, the military,
i truly believe that the results would be very similar. our ability to, evidently, totally ignore our very recent past is astounding. how many times have you heard someone kvetching about black people referencing slavery, say "well I never owned any slaves and I don't know anyone who has. That was a long time ago". well anyone who has seen jim crow, and understood exactly what they were seeing, anyone that knows what red-lining was, well then it's not that hard to see that this countrys' history suggests that we'd be receptive to someone like trump. now refresh your memory about american public education..generally how we compare with the rest of the world, specifically the average students knowledge of civics. Dunning–Kruger effect writ large over a large percentage of our population. I applaud your efforts and wish you well.

How exactly? Who's going to fight who? What's the end goal?

To pretend I don't know what Ukrainians are thinking is just stupid. My son and daughter-in-law are on their way there right now, they talk via Skipe with their friends and relatives there on a daily basis.

How about this little tidbit of info you know nothing about but which I am sure Trump has been informed:

"In Provocative Move, Putin Names Regiments After Ukrainian Cities, Warsaw, Berlin"

"Russian President Vladimir Putin has named several military units after cities or other places in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Germany, and Romania, a step that may be seen as provocative by people in those countries.

The decrees -- which give a number of regiments and divisions honorary names that hark back to World War II, when dictator Josef Stalin was in power -- were signed by Putin on June 30 and were made public on July 2.

The decrees say that the names are intended "to preserve glorious military and historic traditions, and to nurture loyalty to the fatherland and military duty among the military personnel."

"to preserve glorious military and historic traditions, and to nurture loyalty to the fatherland and military duty among the military personnel."

"Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union, set in motion events designed to cause a famine in the Ukraine to destroy the people there seeking independence from his rule. As a result, an estimated 7,000,000 persons perished in this farming area, known as the breadbasket of Europe, with the people deprived of the food they had grown with their own hands."

That's the "glorious miltary and historic tradition" they are honoring.

"How exactly? Who's going to fight who? What's the end goal?"

The member states of NATO in Europe cannot militarily or financially defend themselves against Russian expansion without the massive military umbrella provided by the United States.

I feel like Captain Obvious responding to your #12 when you already know the answers.
