Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, July 09, 2018

While apprehending a 32-year-old man acting erratically, police learned that a 5-month-old baby had been taken into the woods and buried. According to the Missoula County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: After more than 6 hours of searching on foot, a deputy heard the faint cry of a baby. He followed the sound and found the baby alive, face down, buried under a pile of sticks and debris. Clothed in only a wet and soiled onesie, the baby was found at approximately 2:30 am, putting the infant in the woods unattended and in the cold (approximately 46 degrees) for a minimum of 9 hours. The baby was transported to a local hospital and is in good condition ... For all of us at the sheriffs office, this is what we call a miracle. For the officers who were present for this event, its especially hard knowing what this small baby endured in the last 24 hours. Sheriff McDermott would like to thank those who assisted in the search and those who called 911, helping first responders bring this baby to safety.

Rusty is correct I misread the information the infant was not buried alive for 6 hours but at least 9 hours.

There are rare cases of human babies being raised by animals. One of their characteristics is they do not feel cold like the rest of us do.

Goodness gracious. Nothing shocks me much these days, but this is quite a story. May this kid's life from this point on be filled with kindness.

The rescuers are heros, without any help from the druggie Dad they managed to find a needle in a haystack. Well done!

And they caught the guy responsible.

The child was found at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after an intensive foot search of more than six hours in temperatures that dipped to the mid-40s. The sheriff's office said he'd been buried for more than nine hours after allegedly being abandoned by Francis Charlton Crowley of Oregon.

Crowley, 32, was arrested Saturday night and charged with criminal endangerment. Further charges are expected to follow. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

People that bury babies in the woods should "fall off" the jail bunk. Repeatedly.

Burying him probably kept him warmer and safer than not burying him.

Also, "buried" is a stretch when it's "buried under a pile of sticks and debris." It doesn't sound like he was buried in a shallow grave. He was buried the same way you bury yourself under the blankets on a cold night.

Good grief, SNOOFY

Are you suggesting that this baby's father didn't have any blankets or heat in the house and decided, in the best interests of the baby, that he'd be warmer covered by sticks and debris in the woods? And safer, too?

i'm sleep training my 6 month old...

my heart breaks when she's crying alone for a few minutes... 9 hours!

the man needs to be buried alive

#14 Nope, not saying that at all. Just pointing out the kid was probably safer under a few leaves and sticks than not.

If I had to guess, I'd say the burying was some part of his brain actually trying to protect the child from what the rest of his brain was doing to it.

No doubt the man isn't banging on all eight cylinders but the fact remains that sticks and debris are no obstacle to hungry, carnivorous woodland creatures. Even an owl would go for the eyes of a helpless prey.
