Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, July 09, 2018

President Donald Trump is going down to the wire as he makes his choice on a replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, but he says with his final four options "you can't go wrong." ... Relishing the suspense, Trump insisted he still hadn't locked down his decision, which he wants to keep under wraps until a 9 p.m. [Eastern] Monday announcement from the White House.

Trump Nominates Brett Kavanaugh To The Supreme Court
If confirmed, the 53-year-old judge could tilt the balance of the court in a solidly conservative direction for decades to come.
By Matt Ferner and Laura Bassett

If confirmed, Brett Kavanaugh, 53, would tilt the balance of the court in a solidly conservative direction for decades to come.

He has argued that a president shouldn't be burdened by lawsuits, investigations or indictments.

His role in partisan political battles, such as Kenneth Starr's investigations into President Bill Clinton and the fight over the 2000 presidential election recount, are likely to draw the ire of Democrats.

Why Kavanaugh?

In 2009, Kavanaugh wrote an article for the Minnesota Law Review where he argued that U.S. Presidents should be exempt from "time-consuming and distracting" lawsuits and investigations, which "would ill serve the public interest, especially in times of financial or national security crisis."

That's why.

How many people who proudly admit they voted for our President? Not too many.

I do not take pleasure in the suffering of others.

Very few exceptions:
When our nation starts playing a giant game of "the boy who cried Wolf"
And start crying huge crocodile tears over non-important issues, start false rhetoric ("Nazis," "bigots" because people don't support transgender elementary school bathrooms) And the like, and President Trump doesn't give in, that is actually refreshing.

Something like the "Bradley effect" has played out.
When the rhetoric is that everyone who supports Donald Trump is a Nazi, is a bigot, or is a misogynist, people won't tell their neighbors and coworkers and posters that they're going to vote for Donald Trump ( whether they are voting for him to give a big middle finger to elites, as Michael Moore stated, or whether they simply can't see a corrupt politician like Hillary get elected).

Did you see the video of the fat woman freaking out, yelling "nooooo!" At the inauguration?
That was laughable! And I don't mind are laughing at her fake outrage. (Ok it was semi-real, but you can see her doing it for attention, in her facial expression)

"Candidate Hillary caused all this SCOTUS mess!"

Candidate Hillary ceased to be an entity in 2016. She's not causing anything in 2018, except a sort of bizarre co-dependency in the minds of millions of Trumpers and Never Trumpers who don't seem to want to give themselves or Trump credit for the things Trump is doing.

The sense I'm getting is that Hillary was worse as a candidate, not as a leader.
To me that's like saying Anna Kournikova is a more successful tennis player than Martina Navratilova because Anna got better endorsement deals.

But if you only were intending on commenting on Clinton's prowess as a campaigner, not as a potential leader, sure, she was worse than Obama. I actually can't think of a candidate that's a better campaigner than Obama, Trump probably comes closest.

I was thinking that critique went deeper than the paint job and optional touring package.

"In 2016, I strongly supported Hillary Clinton for president as well as President Barack Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland. But today, with the exception of the current justices and Judge Garland, it is hard to name anyone with judicial credentials as strong as those of Judge Kavanaugh. He sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (the most influential circuit court) and commands wide and deep respect among scholars, lawyers and jurists."

"Brett Kavanaugh wrote that presidents shouldn't be "distracted" by criminal investigations"

"President Donald Trump has picked a Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who doesn't think presidents should have to spend their time on pesky criminal investigations.

Perhaps not coincidentally, President Trump has been spending a lot of time dealing with a pesky criminal investigation.

Kavanaugh wrote in an article for the Minnesota Law Review from 2009 that Congress should pass a law "exempting a President -- while in office -- from criminal prosecution and investigation, including from questioning by criminal prosecutors or defense counsel."

But....

"Brett Kavanaugh & Ken Starr Report: He Helped Author It"

"Brett Kavanaugh was indeed front-and-center in the investigations into former President Bill Clinton over sexual harassment and his honesty about a relationship with an intern, Monica Lewinsky. Some see salience in some of the Starr Report's arguments at the time over what was allowable grounds to impeach a president.

Kavanaugh was a "lead author" of Ken Starr's report into Bill Clinton, according to Politico. Kavanaugh, a graduate of Yale University, also worked in the George W. Bush administration and clerked for Anthony Kennedy, before he was named by Bush to the federal bench."

In other words, Kavanaugh is a Republican, just as dishonest as the rest of them.

I hope you are smarter in your future votes, you voted stupidly last time. And yes, I can complain about folks like you as long as I want and will especially do so when right wing lunatics are being appointed to the SC because of people just like you. You better believe I will complain, hopefully enough and loudly enough that it will discourage others from making the same stupid mistakes. I still complain about Nader voters and will continue to as long as I am alive. Think about Nader voters. They allowed G.W. Bush to become President. G.W. To #61 in Michigan v Sitz the law was upheld not the decision of the lower court to substitute its judgment for the legislature's. The supreme court talked about a balancing between 4th amendment rights and safety concerns of the state. Keeping drunk drivers off the road won out over limited invasion of free movement. Driving is a privilege not a right.

After McConnell humiliated Obama, three Senate Democrats voted in favor of Neil Gorsuch: Joe Manchin of West Virginia; Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota. All three of these rightwing Democrats are facing tough reelection campaigns in their states. Regardless what hangs in the balance with Trump's latest Supreme Court pick of Brett Kavanaugh, the Democratic leadership is going to have a tough time reining in their own.

If the Democrats cannot cobble together a solidified opposition to Trump's most egregious policies, why would the Kavanaugh nomination be any different? Instead of drawing up a visionary blueprint that aims to excite a true grassroots movement against the corporate establishment, they continue to shiver in the face of internal upheaval as they have with the recent victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York.

What makes the Democrats so pathetic, is their true allegiance is to the same bums the Republicans depend on. Together they operate a racket.
