Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster reportedly complained during his time in the White House about President Trump's stance toward Russian President Vladimir Putin. "The president thinks he can be friends with Putin," McMaster said, according to a report published in The Washington Post on Friday that cited U.S. officials. "I don't know why, or why he would want to be," McMaster was quoted as saying.

I've been saying people like McMasters and Tillerson need to start speaking out about what Trump thinks, says and does behind the scenes. If they really think Trump is a moron, they need to honestly tell us why.

Economy the size of Italy and Italy is a mess.

But I must say if Hillary rode a horse with her shirt off the election/ world may have been different

Trump Thinks He Can Be Friends with Putin

The bigger and more important question is where are the Republicans who know better, and why aren't they speaking up?

It's a simple and straight forward question that Democrats need to ask 10 million times out loud from now until the 2020 election -- on both the floors on the House and Senate, on the old fart shows like 'Meet the Press', and everywhere in between.

And by those Republicans not speaking up actually creates leverage for Democrats, if Democrats will ever really know and figure out how to use it.

"Once KGB, always KGB"

While I appreciate Pres Trump's self-confidence going into this meeting with Pres Putin, I am also amazed at the stunning naivety Pres Trump seems to be exhibiting.

After he was totally played by the Russians in the Oval Office, and Pres Trump was tricked into revealing classified information to the Russians, why should I think that a one-on-one meeting with Pres Putin is going to go any better?

@#9 ... The bigger and more important question is where are the Republicans who know better, and why aren't they speaking up? ...

Republicans were meeting with Russian officials in Russia on the Fourth of July.

"After he was totally played by the Russians in the Oval Office, and Pres Trump was tricked into revealing classified information to the Russians,"

What makes you think he was tricked and played? Trump has hung out with mobsters all his life. It seems to me we need to at least consider the possibility that Trump knew/knows exactly what he is doing and is intentionally acting the way he is.

Yeah, I heard that the other day ...

Republicans on Russia trip face scorn and ridicule from critics at home
www.washingtonpost.com

Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.) led the eight-member delegation on a multiday tour of St. Petersburg and Moscow, a trip that included meetings with Russia's foreign minister and parliamentarians. It did not include a session that senators had been hoping for: a meeting with Putin, whom President Trump is scheduled to meet at a summit this month.

Joining Shelby were Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), John Thune (R-S.D.) and Rep. Kay Granger (R-Tex.).

Members of the delegation set off on their trip late last week promising to be tough with Russian officials ahead of the president's visit, especially on matters of election interference. But they struck a conciliatory tone once there: The point of their visit, Shelby stressed to the Duma leader, was to "strive for a better relationship" with Moscow, not "accuse Russia of this or that or so forth."

They were greasing the skids for Trump to sell out America when Trump meets with Putin.

Seriously, why can't Democrats make hay out of these 8 GOP traitors greasy the skids for Traitor Trump to sell out America?

@#11 ... What makes you think he was tricked and played? ...

Because I do not want to have to ponder the concept of the President of the United States intentionally revealing classified information to the Russians.

Because the Democrats on currently on a ridiculous "eliminate ICE" bender.

Maybe they will come to their senses before they waste away too much of the 2018 campaign season.

I knew the Democrats were going to waste away the possibility of a Blue Wave .

Not all Democrats:

Why "Abolish ICE" Is Not the Answer

An Obama administration official on why the argument to dismantle ICE is misguided.

On this week's episode of my podcast, I Have to Ask, I spoke to Cecilia Muñoz, who served as the director of the White House Domestic Policy Council under President Barack Obama and is an expert on immigration policy. Before joining the government, Muñoz -- the daughter of Bolivian immigrants -- worked at the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic advocacy organization. She now works at the New America Foundation.

Also, a number of Democrats (e.g. Gillibrand) and Bernie want to eliminate ICE but replace it with a better option, a fact which is getting lost in the framing war on the subject they are losing to Trump.

@#16 ... replace it with a better option, a fact which is getting lost in the framing war on the subject they are losing to Trump. ...

Yup.

Getting into a war with Pres Trump when you are dealing with subtleties is not a war the Democrats can win.

That is why, even with some inside ICE saying that there are things that need ~repairing~, the Democrats cannot win the war of words with Pres Trump over ICE.

Unfortunately, the Democrats have already been painted on the losing side for this one. No amount of rationality from some (most?) Democrats can counter the ridiculous notion of the few Democrats who happen to be given the megaphone courtesy of Pres Trump's tweets.

Pres Trump will be playing a divisive culture war this campaign. The sooner the Democrats realize that, the better their chances will be. But the Democrats have grasped defeat from the jaws of victory too many times in the past for me to have hope for the Blue Wave.

Bret Stephens, who wrote the op-ed you linked to, is a Never-Trumper and while that's good, he's totally off the mark as to what Democratic-Socialism is all about ... per your link ...

The Democratic Socialists of America, of which Ocasio-Cortez is a member, believe in economies defined by state-owned enterprises and worker-owned cooperatives. Versions of this have been tried to varying degrees before: Israel in its first decades; post-independence India; Sweden in the 1960s and '70s.

It always led to crisis: hyperinflation for Israel in 1980s; an I.M.F. bailout for India in 1991; a banking meltdown for Sweden in 1992. It's usually a recipe for corruption: State-owned enterprises such as Pemex in Mexico or Eskom in South Africa are local bywords for graft and mismanagement. It frequently leads to dictatorship. Hugo Chávez was also a democratic socialist.

No where has Bernie or Ocasio-Cortez ever advocated for owning the means of production -- if I'm wrong on this, please show me.

Democratic Socialism is all about spending money of things that directly affect working and middle-class Americans in a positive way. Since 2000 the federal government has spent trillions of dollars on wars, tax-cuts, and prescription drugs to the tune of nearly $30 trillion ... we have the money for universal healthcare, free college, and infrastructure.

These 3 (and Gillibrand) better start making the distinction between what Trump is saying they want and what they, in fact, want:

"This past week, Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) joined with Vermont's Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders to call for ICE to be dismantled and replaced with a new agency."

www.kitv.com

And Bernie better start distinguishing between his position and that of some of his followers:

Where Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Parts Ways With Bernie Sanders

The two self-avowed democratic socialists share a lot in common -- but disagree on immigration.

www.theatlantic.com

It wouldn't hurt of Obama, Biden and Clinotn to speak up either.

They've painted themselves in a corner by constantly dismissing calls for stronger borders. Hillary Clinton said we already have a "secure border," which is laughable to anyone that lives in southern california

"And the result is that we have the most secure border we have ever had," she said. "Which just strengthens my argument that now it is time to do comprehensive immigration reform [AKA amnesty and citizenship]
