Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Most Americans oppose the separation of immigrant families at the border, and a larger share of people than at any point since 2001 say immigration is good for the nation. Those were just some of the findings of polls published in the past week that shed new light on attitudes toward immigration, a subject that many Americans view as a top concern ahead of this fall's midterm elections.

They are fine with settlers. Settlers is code for white immigrants.

We have settlers.

Other countries have peasants.

Most Americans oppose the separation of immigrant families

WTF does that have to do with illegals?

#5 | Posted by Sniper at 2018-06-23 02:02 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

I wonder how people would answer the question if it was phrased as "Do you think illegal immigration is good for the United States?"

#6 | Posted by Rightocenter at 2018-06-23 06:16 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 7

Illegal immigrants commit less violent crime than citizens, so illegals make us safer. If they weren't here then murderers would be killing citizens instead of illegals.

#7 Illegal immigrants commit crime at 3 times the rate of American citizens. Legal immigrants at half the rate. Jesus, how can you be that stupid? Just look it up. Or was that a joke or something?

From The Hill: thehill.com

A story published by The Hill last month about two studies claiming that "immigrants commit less crime than U.S. born citizens" misses the point that President Trump and other Americans are concerned over the crimes committed by illegal aliens, not legal immigrants. And the existing records on those crimes, like the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco in 2015, are truly shocking.

Ronald Mortensen points out some of the methodological problems with these studies in his recent piece in The Hill. But the problems are even worse. The Cato study concluded that "legal and illegal immigrants are less likely to be incarcerated than natives" and the Sentencing Project concluded in their report that "foreign-born residents of the United States commit crime less often than native-born citizens."

The first report found that criminal aliens, both legal and illegal, make up 27 percent of all federal prisoners. Yet non-citizens are only about nine percent of the nation's adult population. Thus, judging by the numbers in federal prisons alone, non-citizens commit federal crimes at three times the rate of citizens.

The findings in the second report are even more disturbing. It reviewed the criminal histories of 55,322 aliens in federal or state prisons and local jails who "entered the country illegally." Those illegal aliens were arrested 459,614 times, an average of 8.3 arrests per illegal alien, and committed almost 700,000 criminal offenses, an average of roughly 12.7 offenses per illegal alien.

#11 I can't believe you just did that. You linked to a story I cant read without a subscription, that you found on google, and you used that to refute me. How can I can I debate it?

Look, can you refute anything in what I said in #9? No? Okay then, you=suck.

Jesus, all it takes it is a simple search on a non-google search engine. For God's sake, at least read the DHS report on illegal immigrant crime. You can find that stuff if you just don't use google. Google is actually paid by evil people to retract stories and downrank them. It shows you what they want to show you. How can you not know that? They actually totally downranked the World Socialist Website into total obscurity for supporting Bernie over Hillary, and also the war narrative.

Recent study done by me says boys born with silver spoons in their mouths tend to lie, cheat, steal at a rate far above illegal immitrants and they feel less guilt for doing so because they feel entitled. Historically, this has always been so. It's just smart.

HeliumRat, do you actually fall for this bs, or you know it's bs and you just repeat the lies, knowing full well what you're doing?

#15 | Posted by snoofy, More than 10,000 in Texas prisons this minute. Sad thing is we get rid of them as quickly as possible if Mexico will take them. They usually will not.

#13 If you type the name itself, yes it shows up. But it used to be you could things like "socialism", "workers rights", or whatever it and would be the third or fourth link. Now nothing. And they wrote articles about how that was happening and how their web traffic had suddenly dropped by half. They had a list of 300 keywords that used to pop them up right at the top of the search engine, and now none of them work.

Look what happens if you type "world socialist web site censored" into google. Only a handful of results. I read a bunch of articles about exactly what was happening on wsws, and none of them show up at all. There are a couple related to what's happening, but the narrative is very different. Read the facebook article that pops up, for instance: www.facebook.com

Here is one you that was actually dropped from google: Google intensifies censorship of left-wing websites www.wsws.org

#13 You must read www.wsws.org

"Google's actions against the World Socialist Web Site and other left and progressive sites are making clear the real targets of Internet censorship: news outlets and political organizations opposing war, social inequality and the domination of society by the financial oligarchy."

Ask rcade about it you don't believe me. His web traffic dropped pretty radically at the same time. I posted several articles about it here.

The New Left doesn't debate you - it you disagree with it, it tries to memory hole you while calling you a Nazi, and even threaten you with violence. That is so going to totally backfire....

Rat

I tried searching for a couple of their articles with paraphrased titles and they came up second page of google so you have a bit of a point but other articles by more mainstream sources filled the first page.

So they haven't been banned or censored but they are not considered a top source by google for sure. While I'm not quick to go to conspiracy perhaps the lack of google ads on their page could be a factor?

#20 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2018-06-24 05:22 PM | Reply

#18 Did you see the article in #13? No. It should be right at the top, since it is the most relevant, and the name of the site is in your search request. And there a bunch of others by wsws. Where are they?

#12 The link I posted refutes everything you said in #9, so you=suck.

The first study, published by the libertarian Cato Institute in February, examines criminal conviction data for 2015 provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety. It found that native-born residents were much more likely to be convicted of a crime than immigrants in the country legally or illegally.

"As a percentage of their respective populations, there were 56 percent fewer criminal convictions of illegal immigrants than of native-born Americans in Texas in 2015," author Alex Nowrasteh writes. "The criminal conviction rate for legal immigrants was about 85 percent below the native-born rate."

Another study, published in March in the journal Criminology, looked at population-level crime rates: Do places with higher percentages of undocumented immigrants have higher rates of crime? The answer, as the chart above shows, is a resounding no.

#25 The Cato institute is a Neo-con pro-illegal immigration think-tank that wants to reduce wages and end unions, as they have publicly stated many times. I've seen them gibber on C-SPAN in their meetings. Of course they say that. What a bunch of total lies.

re #28

How very Trumptilian of you.

Because they disagree with your ideology that means they are lying?

No, it doesn't.

besides, did you know that the Cato Institute is an American libertarian think tank was funded by Charles Koch.

Cato scholars advocate support for civil liberties, liberal immigration policies, drug liberalization, and laws restricting consensual sexual activity.

"Liberal" does not equal "illegal".

there are at least 2 separate issues at play here:

1) is legal immigration good for the US?

2) should anyone who shows up at a border be granted the rights of a US citizen?

#31 | Posted by drpierce at 2018-06-26 03:51 AM | Reply

1. Yes
2. Generally, yes.

#32 | Posted by snoofy at 2018-06-26 03:55 AM | Reply

#31

1) yes

2) they aren't. Are you suggesting they should be?

But. Instead of treating them like criminals. (Which allows corporations and employers to hire them and pay them below minimum wage rates.) We should allow anyone who wants to come in to our country the permission to. Assign them work numbers. Have them work and pay taxes. Provide them a path to citizenship.

#33 | Posted by ClownShack at 2018-06-26 04:00 AM | Reply

2. They get most of our rights other than stuff that doesn't really apply at the border, like voting in Federal elections.

The Constitution grants due process, Second Amendment, etc. to people, not citizens.

Any upper limit on that? 100 million? 2200 million? You people are crazy.

Democrats ought to put that in their platform. Sounds like a winner.
