Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Pope Francis likened abortion to Nazi eugenics practiced "with white gloves," and said the only real families are those based on marriage between a man and a woman, using uncharacteristically blunt language on two controversial moral issues. Addressing an Italian family association on Saturday, the pope equated the contemporary termination of pregnancies in response to fetal maladies or defects discovered through prenatal testing to the policies of Hitler's Germany.

But the Vatican has tolerated sexual abuse of children and protected the abusers basically forever...
Nice to see the pope on the moral high post.

It wassn't Nazi eugenics, the eugenics movement started long before Hitler's rise to power. The leaders of that movement were in the United States long before Germany took it up. Springing out of social Darwinism, the movement was successful in influencing policy for 50 years. Yep, it was a progressive movement that successfully sterilized a few hundred thousand people without any consent or due process.

Just can't resist the urge to defend Nazi's can you? Did the Nazi's practice eugenics? Yes.

#4 | Posted by donnerboy#3 | Posted by bored, I guess it would be too much trouble to look up the subject on google to see if what I said was true. Yes, the eugenic cause was much bigger in the USA than in Germany back in the 20s before Hitler was ever elected to anything in Germany. It was central in the progressive causes. Defend Nazi's? Only a knee jerk progressive would say that. But what appeal would a big government socialist group like the Nazi's have for me?

What appeal would a racist government sadist group that wears neat uniforms have for you?

#6 | Posted by Zed, None, I didn't like them in 1989, and I really learned to hate them after visiting Dachau and other sites in 1990. "Aber mach frie" is on the main gates of all of them.

"Yes, the eugenic cause was much bigger in the USA than in Germany back in the 20s before Hitler was ever elected to anything in Germany."

How big?

"Yep, it was a progressive movement that successfully sterilized a few hundred thousand people without any consent or due process."

A few hundred thousand?
Remind us how big the human cost was in Germany, would ya?
Or... Are you one of those guys who says Holocaust was only a few hundred thousand people too?

I like this pope (as much as my recovering Catholic views allow) but this is a stupid statement.

Abortion can't be seen as eugenics as there's no end goal of it. Talk to me when we're genetically testing and then selectively aborting based on the results.

He's been showering with Mackris over there. Nulli is furious! I'm just hoping we can avoid another Bourdain situation.

I love the pope but yes he is far off the mark on this.

You're sounding stupid here Francis and you're far from being a stupid man.

Planned Parenthood was started by a woman who openly supported eugenics, abortion is a form of eugenics.

abortion is a form of eugenics.

Only if it were mandatory.

#16 | Posted by ClownShack at 2018-06-18 11:20 PM | Reply

Does the active/selective part of the eugenics have to be mandatory ?

"Planned Parenthood was started by a woman who openly supported eugenics"

And yet somehow, against society's better judgment, you exist?
Hmmm.

I know: Never send a woman to do a man's job!
