Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, June 13, 2018

The Trump administration is looking to build tent cities at military posts around Texas to shelter the increasing number of unaccompanied migrant children being held in detention. The Department of Health and Human Services will visit Fort Bliss, a sprawling Army base near El Paso in the coming weeks to look at a parcel of land where the administration is considering building a tent city to hold between 1,000 and 5,000 children, according to U.S. officials and other sources familiar with the plans.

Trump Looking to Build Internment Camps for Children

Japanese internment camps were established during World War II by President Franklin Roosevelt through his Executive Order 9066. From 1942 to 1945, it was the policy of the U.S. government that people of Japanese descent would be interred in isolated camps. Enacted in reaction to Pearl Harbor and the ensuing war, the Japanese internment camps are now considered one of the most atrocious violations of American civil rights in the 20th century.

Real human beings are sickened by what our government is doing. Alex Jones and Glenn Beck are thusfar silent on actual camps because they are right wing frauds.

#55 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2018-06-13 04:11 PM | Reply

True in 2005, even truer now:

If Fox News were truly fair and balanced, would it be as much fun to watch? While the right enjoys a laugh, media liberals have become the new conservatives: a stodgy, humorless Ivy League elite.

Why aren't liberals funny?

Sociology without style is pomposity.

The complicated condition for liberals, or, anyway, for liberal wits and stylists, is that so much of the liberal media -- the constricting liberal media -- has defaulted to a kind of consensus *NY Times-*ness. We're Hillary (or we're her base, and she's courting us by becoming as worthy and flat as we are).

Not to put too fine a point on it, but liberals, in their desperate quest to be taken seriously, are the new conservatives.

Conservative opinionists in the right-wing media -- from Fox to talk radio to Rupert Murdoch's Weekly Standard to the Wall Street Journal editorial page -- are, on the other hand, often facile, funny, irreverent, eccentric, jaunty, pithy, as well as aggressive and wrongheaded (that improbable creature Ann Coulter is all those things), as well as operatic (Terri Schiavo was an opera). As well as, on occasion, inebriated. (The character note of a liberal these days is sobriety -- no drinks, no carbs, no jokes. The conservatives run amok while the liberals are corporatized.)

Obviously, conservatives have reason to enjoy themselves, while liberals do not. But then, too, it may reasonably be the conservatives' sense of verbal sport, of going too far, of showing off, that's helped get them into their catbird seat. And, conversely, the liberals' dullness and depressiveness -- "little constipated souls," in the recent description by Ben Bradlee, who is from the liberal media's jaunty age -- that's contributed to their fate.

No Jokes Please, We're Liberal

"Straw man. I am not for open borders,"

There certainly are people who are for open borders. If you're not one of them, then you might fall in the other group.

"i just don't think we need to be separating families on purpose as a deterrent to immigration.

OTOH, your conflation of illegal border crossing with immigration does beg the question of whether you're in both groups.

Illegal migration may have been at historical lows shortly after Trump took office early last year, but it's been steadily increasing since then.

Democrats and phony progressives offer no solution to this, because many of them believe "brown" latino people are all in favor of it. They consistently offer amnesty while at the same time oppose securing the border.

Why were the border restrictions ineffective? Poor funding, for one. Congress didn't provide enough money to ramp up Border Patrol hiring until the mid-1990s.

As a a result, a New York Times article from 1989 found that illegal border crossings actually appeared to be increasing in the early years after the law had passed.

I do not have a television, everything I get to watch has to be online.

1. I do not like Trevor Noah, none of my friends like him - nobody I know watches the Daily Show since Jon left. Nobody.

A few days ago I actually did catch it - HE ENDED THE SHOW EATING A CHIK-FIL-A.

The only thing I like about Noah is his horrible Trump impersonation.

2. The Opposition has some excellent performers and makes perhaps the most salient points regarding the alt-right invasion.

3. Colbert was my "first love" Daily alum, but sadly I do not watch the Late Show - entertainment news isn't interesting to me and I didn't know he was still doing political monologues until recently. His strangely gay lilt in his Trump impersonation is hilarious.

4. I used to love Samantha Bee on the Daily Show, but never watched her show - the title is so offensive to me, I had no idea it was her program. Well, I stupidly decided to watch her 60's style election coverage attempting to explain the super delegates as "necessary" - lost my ----, shut it off until very, very recently.

5. As a 100% Puritopian I do not agree with John Oliver on several topics, but he's so self-deprecating it's hard not to find his humor cleverly analytical. I actively watch this one.

One you guys probably know about is Late Night with Seth Meyers - his A Closer Look segment is fantastic, and he has the best Trump impersonation yet, imo.

Now that net neutrality is gone AT&T has shut down access to torrents servers, I will not be able to watch those television shows any more.

So many things about this administration seems to be permitting illegal activities, so I shouldn't be so surprised.

#83 and 84, and those who agree with them, have gone full Alex Jones. You're not just raising concerns about how children in protective custody are being treated, you actually believe in your addled minds that this is a full blown conspiracy like the FEMA concentration camps, pizza parlor child sex rings and 9/11 troofers.

"you actually believe in your addled minds that this is a full blown conspiracy"

No, a conspiracy is hidden. This is right out in the open and evil.

And pieces of ---- like you defend it by making false equivalences, making jokes, assigning false positions, and playing word games like arguing a family crossing a border to escape poverty or death is "smuggling children".

You are a transparent apologist for despicable behavior and cruelty.

Deflectors to full, eh child abuse advocate?

#88 | Posted by DirkStruan at 2018-06-14 02:10 AM | Reply

There are no gas chambers or ovens or other forms of execution as some have suggested. And you're just repeating the same lines that separating children from undocumented migrants is in itself "child abuse" and "inhumane", but you don't really believe that because you don't say the same thing about cases where that happens every day to Americans when a parent is arraigned on criminal charges, so you know you're ascribing a false position and trivializing actual child abuse.

You've conflated illegal entry with immigration, and you've also conflated those trying to escape imminent danger or death with those who committed fraud across several different countries to try to enter the US. People who left Central American countries are clearly no longer in the same danger they were once they've made it to Mexico. Poverty is not an imminent threat, nor an excuse to illegally immigrate. (Do you agree or disagree with that statement? I bet you wont give a direct answer.). People are regularly coached, both by unscrupulous immigration lawyers and their smugglers, to make up sob stories to apply for asylum even if it's not true. This is a sad fact, and the people who may have legitimate claims suffer because of it. So don't throw this -------- at me that I don't have compassion for those with legitimate claims; I'll throw it right back at you.

"but you don't really believe that because you don't say the same thing about cases where that happens every day to Americans when a parent is arraigned on criminal charges,"

Maybe because it isn't the same thing. At all. Just like a family fleeing to the US with children are not the same as child smugglers who bring children into the country with the purpose of harming them.

"People who left Central American countries are clearly no longer in the same danger they were once they've made it to Mexico."

Because you say so?

"People are regularly coached, both by unscrupulous immigration lawyers and their smugglers, to make up sob stories to apply for asylum even if it's not true."

You get that off the Daily Stormer, you child abuse advocating pond scum?

All you have are false comparisons and outright blood libel and frankly you should be ashamed.

My favorite people on the right are those who pretend they didn't vote for Trunp yet can be found either defending him in every thread or "cracking jokes" about even his most disgusting acts.

Many of these people are legally seeking asylum. To characterize them as "smugglers" or to pretend they shouldn't have brought their children with them is to stoop to incredible depths of intellectual dishonesty in support of cruel and inhumane behavior.

For posts like Joe's above we need a new flag. Something like "OMG this is the truth!" Unless you have all these posters killfiled, there's really no excuse for the feigned ignorance which is just Snoofyesque.

You're for open borders. Just admit it. You're pretending that human trafficking doesn't exist, that people don't lie and it's not a problem. Or you really are that naive and ignorant, in which case you have no clue what you're talking about and are fighting tooth an nail to maintain your ignorance. Just like the actual Trumpers.

Wow, you really stepped in it with #89 - which you know is riddled with lies.

Separating children from their parents at the border, including breastfeeding babies from their mothers and imprisoning them is inhumane and absolutely criminal.

I'm pretty certain Alex Jones is on your side about filling FEMA camps with border crossers. Did you see him harass Bernie Sanders at that airport? What was the point of that crap? To show how "intimidated" a person is when confronted by a stupidly crazy huckster?

Also, people are dying inside of this gulag setup. You must not have children, so this isn't really something you can comprehend.

ICE cruelty and dehumanization reminds me of when Native Americans were rounded up. In Canada they were separated from their families and distributed to concentration centers, most were not eligible for "adoption" or foster care. The abuse wasn't even looked into by authorities until after 2000. For decades these children have been physically, mentally and sexually abused, and kept without language skills or access to people who can help. That is precisely what the Nazi were doing.

What nation are you in now? I'm guessing they do not have border laws that separate children from their parents.. that has a distinctly fascistic cruelty. Unless you are in China or Israel, then the children and parents are up for organ donation.

Your article is pretty clear on the reasons why, and none of the reasons were related to ripping children from their parents. Trump's new policy has resulted (from your article) in an increase in children being held, separated from a parent of 21%:

The number of undocumented children being held without their parents in U.S. government custody has seen a 21 percent increase in the past month after the Trump administration announced its "zero tolerance" crackdown on families caught crossing the border illegally, it has emerged.

Five years ago the number of children attempting to cross, or seeking asylum was enormous. Housing them became critical. I'm sure you were paying attention then, right? I mean all this is in the article you linked.

Now the issue is self-created due to Trump's new policy of ripping kids from their parents, changes in rules on seeking asylum, who qualifies, etc.

And "black Jesus" - seriously? You idiots wonder why people think what they do about you. Talk about rendering your entire post worthless. Sheesh.
