Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, June 13, 2018

If a majority of voters who cast ballots agree, a long and contentious process would begin for three separate states to take the place of California, with one primarily centered around Los Angeles and the other two divvying up the counties to the north and south. Completion of the radical plan -- far from certain, given its many hurdles at judicial, state and federal levels -- would make history. It would be the first division of an existing U.S. state since the creation of West Virginia in 1863.

Great, so they want to create another red state to mooch off the blue states.

The goal of this is blatantly partisan. The purpose is to give republicans senate votes. Instead of two likely democratic senators you would have two likely democratic, two likely republican, and two tossups. It basically nullifies California in the Senate.

Also it would split California's electoral votes.

This is just about cementing republican power in Washington DC

Why are conservatives always trying to secede? They need their own safe space. Poor little snowflakes

John Stewart did a segment on Texas secession back in the Bush era and it wasn't pretty. Each fiefdom would need its own:
1. State Police
2. National Guard
3. Tax collectors
4. Courts
5. Prisons

That doesn't sound like Low Taxes to me.

Well, when you feel you aren't being represented time after time..

That's why California is losing so many people, with the libs in firm control, the northern part feels it has no representation.

I agree with this and I hope it happens.

@2

You are either bad at math or geography: This would create 4 Dem Senators, 2 GOP senators and isolate the solid GOP block away from Northern and Coastal California, which are solidly Blue, away from the Central Valley, Orange County and San Diego, which are solidly Red.

It would create another Red State, but two more Blue ones, more than offsetting the "balance."

That being said, even if this passes, not going to happen for all the reasons enumerated in the article.

Well, when you feel you aren't being represented time after time..

You mean like when 579,000 conservatives in Wyoming get the same number of votes in the Senate as 55 million Californians?

"with the libs in firm control, the northern part feels it has no representation."

About 1% of Californians live in northern part of the state.

How much say should they have?

Must be hard being that dumb.

California is the largest state for population at 150% the population of Texas and is growing at about 9% per decade or roughly .9% per year on average. Last year it grew .61% and is doing the same thus far this year.

Please don't waste our time with your idiotic lies.

Not going to happen. This is just more nonsense designed to distract us from the real problems we need to deal with.

I would suspect the Republicans or the Russians are behind this once again trying to divide and conquer.

Or maybe it was both of them working together again working to sow chaos and division, you know, like old times.

Nobody goes to California to "get away from Liberals".

I hear North Korea is about to have some openings though.

And that is about as far as you can get from Liberals.

#15 | Posted by donnerboy at 2018-06-13 01:08 PM | Reply

This division is moronic. It ignores the cultural differences in the state. SF and Sacramento are different from each other as much as they are from Eureka. Splitting LA from OC, which are in the same metro area is weird. This map looks like something the British came up with when they divided the middle east.

I like my state the way it is.

I think the point is that there are all sorts of blocks who feel under represented.

The key is to not be a whiny bitch who always has to have their way.

@#6 ... You are either bad at math or geography: ... It would create another Red State, but two more Blue ones, more than offsetting the "balance."...

My math says it will create two blue states and one red state, replacing one blue state.

So it would only create one more blue state, not two.

Did I miscalculate?

That's why California is losing so many people,

Our population is growing. Strike one!

with the libs in firm control, the northern part feels it has no representation.

California isn't divided North vs South. You must be thinking of the civil war. San Francisco and Sacramento are in Northern California and are about as liberal as it gets.

California is divided more east/west, with costal communities tending to be more liberal than inland communities.

Strike Two

I agree with this and I hope it happens.

You haven't a clue what you're agreeing with.

The break down is, Silicon Valley elite rich, don't want their taxes going to poor central California farmers. So. They want to divide the state.

Boaz, you're so partisan and easy to control. All someone has to do is mention liberals and you froth at the mouth.

Very Pavlovian.

"This map looks like something the British came up with when they divided the middle east."

Pretty close.

As I understand it, the map is drawn by a Libertarian for the purposes of having Silicon Valley pay less taxes, taxes that tend to go to everywhere else in the state.

Perhaps it was authored by Nullifidian?

#17 | Posted by ClownShack

Ok.

It is NOT going to happen. This is just more nonsense...

And it is a total waste of time and money.

Which is more proof it is probably just another Republican/Russian funded ploy in an attempt to sow chaos and division like they did last year.

Last year, an effort dubbed Calexit sought to bring the question of whether California should secede from the US to this year's ballot. But the Russia-based leader of that campaign backed off.

No, my use of "creating" means the states themselves, so you are correct that one Red State "remains", and a new Red State is created along with a new Blue State.

Well, except that CA is a blue state, so if some piece of CA remains, it won't be red.

I also think this may be a ploy to get more Republicans to the polls in November, just like Karl Rove put suppressing gay rights issues on a lot of the state ballots back in the day in order to get more of the "traditional values" Republican voters to the polls.

I find it pretty intriguing as a resident in Northern California. With the split at Monterrey, pretty much guarantees two blue states with the central and sierras going purple. I don't think the voting block that shows up in Orange county could overcome LA and Santa Barbara. Anyhow that is changing rapidly with the influx of new residents of various ethnic backgrounds. The old white way in the southern half of the state is rapidly disappearing as they age out or move on.
here is some data about the demise of the GOP in southern California and voting by county.

Elon Musk just fired 9% of his workforce yesterday. Will California disallow the billionaires from moving out of a territory they are excising from to regain their subsidization "investments"?
