Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Seth Grossman, who surprisingly won the Republican primary in New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District last week, is already drawing some unwanted attention in a race widely viewed as a Democratic pickup opportunity in November. In a video captured by American Bridge Political Action Committee, a liberal group, Grossman said: "The whole idea of diversity is a bunch of crap and un-American."

If diversity were unAmerican, republicans would love diversity.

This is a rural, slightly Trump leaning district, so this statement might not go over as negatively as some might expect.

When someone has success with a platform of pure racism, it creates copycats.

This guy might be more of a political opportunist than a revolutionary racist leader like trump.

Is there a race of people on planet Earth that preach diversity but don't practice it?

inquiring minds...

Policies are made by nations not by races.

Quite revealing that you see races as making policies though. I bet you buy into all that "the white man is under attack in a global race war" crap don't you?

Being created equal isn't the same as being treated equally. This candidate won't be able to shrink enough heads into his own viewpoint in time for the election.

Hey, at least the voters now know where he stands on the issue.

We grew great under the concept of the 'melting pot' and have been going the other way towards 'diversity' doe decades now, which has not been beneficial for the success of our nation.

"and have been going the other way towards 'diversity' doe decades now,"

For decades now == since the Civil Rights era.

In related news, at a news conference later that day Grossman's opponent, Jeff Van Drew, was quoted saying "Really? Do we have to spend any more money on this campaign? I think its fair to say I've won..."

"and have been going the other way towards 'diversity' doe decades now, which has not been beneficial for the success of our nation."

The melting pot is a term for diversity, the only thing that changed is that today we want to include everyone in that melting pot and not leave out a few brown people, gay people, women in the workforce, etc. Your expression was, expectedly, an attack on civil rights. What is wrong with you?

"and have been going the other way towards 'diversity' doe decades now, which has not been beneficial for the success of our nation."

So, we'd be better off, as a nation, had we not gone through the Civil Rights era? You are full of crap and actually display traits of mental illness. Hate much?

Diversity is "crap" when you have been the beneficiary of built-in advantages enjoyed by, say, white males descended from colonialists who imposed their culture on everyone else. People who have lived on the fringes for centuries tend not to see it the same way.

We can still have a melting pot, but the difference these days is a conscious effort to recognize the diverse ingredients that go into that pot. Greater equity, and a voice for all, means our national dialogue is more reflective of the entire populace, and therefore a stronger, more accurate representation of our broader culture.

Has nothing to do with diversity.

"The melting pot is a term for diversity,"

Not a great one. Conservatives grasp its true meaning: in a melting pot, everything looks like everything else and conceals into an amorphous mass. That's what conservatives want: one shapeless monoculture, where once a plurality flourished.

Of course it does. Equity in representation, for instance.

And he's absolutely right about everything he said. Problem is, people like him make it a bigger deal than it is. Diversity is a good thing. Yes it is abused, but that happens so rarely that it's not even worth it being part of the argument. Now, things like welfare, sure, the abuse is enough where it warrants a serious discussion. But a person getting a job because of their color and not skills rarely ever occurs. Sure, someone may not have the level of education and experience as someone else, but that doesn't automatically make them any less skilled. If I interview a guy who has 10 years experience and a Master's degree and a guy with 5 years of experience and a Bachelors, the only thing I think is that the first guy is a bigger price tag. The skill difference is nominal. A situation where someone so lacking in skills where you can say he only got the job because of skin color never happens, or at least so little that it equates to never.

Definition of melting pot

1 a : a place where a variety of races, cultures, or individuals assimilate into a cohesive whole
b : the population of such a place

2 : a process of blending that often results in invigoration or novelty

When you throw those Edward VIII brass candlesticks into the melting pot, they lose about 99% of their value (conservative estimate.)

America has never been a melting pot, nor should it be. Our diversity is our greatest strength.

#19 | Posted by snoofy, diversity is a myth. Give me 100 individuals from diverse cultures and back grounds for eight weeks and I can give you a group with shared values, skills and objectives. At least the military is honest enough to call it indoctrination.

You're talking about boot camp.

They'll be better after eight weeks if they're a diverse group to begin with.

"diversity is a myth."

Well, I agree with that more than you might think. The appeal to diversity is something of a modern myth; an archetype of society. But it's demonstrable in nature that diverse systems are more resilient than monoculture.

The suppression of diversity does not make diversity a myth, and (as Freud reminds us) the repressed has a way of returning.
