Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, June 11, 2018

Bruce Springsteen performing at the Tony Awards is surprising enough for theatre enthusiasts, but another moment during the June 10 telecast was even more unexpected. What did Robert De Niro say at the Tony Awards? Part of his presentation was completely censored by CBS. While he may have been totally blanked, Twitter came to the rescue and took Broadway fans inside the room where it happened.

Trump has appointed the awful Gorsuch and Republicans passed an awful tax bill. But he has failed to kill Obamacare or build a wall. Trump is a public distraction behind which Republicans have moved quickly to obliterate all of Trump's populist lies. His ineffectiveness is connected to his tweets which are rich in self contradiction and simple stupidity. He has betrayed his populist base, but I'll give it to you that most do not understand this and his popularity has been unaffected by his irresponsible behavior. His threats are dangerous and extremely stupid. Chomsky sees Trump and the Republican party as criminals that exceed even the ambitions of Hitler.

#31:

Nihilism, from Latin nihil, meaning 'nothing', is the philosophical viewpoint that suggests the denial or lack of belief towards the reputedly meaningful aspects of life. Most commonly, nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism, which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. Moral nihilists assert that there is no inherent morality, and that accepted moral values are abstractly contrived. Nihilism may also take epistemological, ontological, or metaphysical forms, meaning respectively that, in some aspect, knowledge is not possible, or reality does not actually exist.

You mean leftists who refuse to bash immigrants, support tearing families apart at the border... who refuse to agree that there were 'good people on both sides' in Charlotte?

Leftists who speak out against Trump's policies on everything from economics to race to the SC to climate change to tax cuts for corps and the wealthy, to voter suppression and supporting Russian agression, just to name a few... are not the hypocrites.

People who claim to be classical leftists and small b "buddhists", but who obfuscate and deflect for Trump and his policies of hate, stupidity, and oligarchy here daily are the real hypocrites.

Look, I love that you've found a new word that you want to try out, but that isn't whataboutism.
Whataboutism is the technique or practice of responding to an accusation or difficult question by making a counteraccusation or raising a different issue.
What was done there is providing supporting evidence of a behavior, not a deflection or counterattack. Don't feel bad. I'm sure you'll get it right one day.

To raise the standard of living in the United states is as simple as slashing the military budget, a budget which has nothing to do with self defense.

I do get it, TH, and in the sake of honesty, it took me maybe a little less than a minute. In my own defense tho, I don't do Twitter, FB, or even cable or local news and had not seen the Tweet about De Niro, which I'm assuming it's real because it definitely sounds like Trump. I am familiar with the 1st part, but couldn't tell ya the story behind it. I just don't follow this stuff like I once did.

I know most here think they get me, politically, but I really just want truth, especially of an intellectual nature, and to someday see a completely different type of government, who's true nature is to do the things we all, I dare say, know to be right & just & fair. A new monetary system would be nice too, considering we've not had one for some time now.

That's all.

Oh spare us your tired delusions of adequacy. Conservatives always wax sarcastic when a celebrity says anything they don't like. The problem is that conservatives don't listen to real experts either. They don't listen to scientists and scholars, elder statesmen, experienced public servants, spiritual leaders, philosophers and theorists.

Please spare me your, either, intellectual dishonesty or your chronic denial.

Any honest person will readily admit that celebrities do this often, and most often during prime time events, and it is always about a republican president. It always has been that way & this is no opinion it is the simple truth. Problem with too many on blogs like this is they can't even admit to something they know to be true.

I know I said 'always', but only because I've not heard of or seen it done on national TV about a democrat president. I suppose it's possible it has and if someone gives an example I may recall it.

"Oh everyone says that."

Well, Dirkstruan, I'll assume you're not around because you don't seem the type, only based on your few comments here it should be said, to let someone else answer a question directed to you.

And, BTW, if you consider me a 'conservative' based on anything I've said that you've read, then that makes this statement of yours entirely incorrect.

"The problem is that conservatives don't listen to real experts either. They don't listen to scientists and scholars, elder statesmen, experienced public servants, spiritual leaders, philosophers and theorists."

After so many years on these blogs, I'm still amazed by some who think they know every single thing about a person, whom they've never met or had a verbal discussion with. As well as how often the old 'broad brush' gets used.

I no longer can wrap my head around the idea, that anyone, who poses as some broad-thinking, political intellectual, can have such a narrow view of those they consider to have a narrow view.

A bit too circular a thought for me to give any of my energy to.

"Any honest person will readily admit that celebrities do this often, and most often during prime time events, and it is always about a republican president. It always has been that way & this is no opinion it is the simple truth."

My point stands, regardless. Conservatives aren't really in a position to claim the high ground when it comes to who they view as authoritative.

"What does that even mean?"

Everyone says what you did about an ideal government.
It doesn't really mean anything without more details.
