Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Environmental Protection Agency will not consider the health risks and impacts of asbestos already in the environment when evaluating the dangers associated with the chemical compound, Scott Pruitt, the agency's head, quietly announced last week. That means asbestos used in tiles, piping and adhesives throughout homes and businesses in the United States will remain largely unchecked and unaccounted for. Nearly 15,000 Americans die each year from asbestos-related diseases, but President Donald Trump has called the substance "100 percent safe, once applied." In his 1997 book, The Art of the Comeback, Trump argued that the association of the chemical with health risks was part of a mob-created conspiracy. "I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal. Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented," he wrote.

This is what we get when the "I want a POTUS just like me" voters win.

Hey idiots, there's a reason you're not qualified to be POTUS and it's the same reason having a POTUS just like you is a terrible idea.

What a handout to the asbestos lawsuit industry.

Trump has taken an industry that had mostly run its course by the 90s and he's making it great again!

We use all sorts of dangerous substances very day. Things like bromide, ketone, lead and arsenic. Asbestos can be safely used, but not the way it was back in the 50s and 60s Now days they suspend it in a slurry and cast it into tile. It is a great heat insulator. We use it in fire brick in kilns and boilers.

Just not so much in refrigerators, floor tiles and wallboard.

I used to work in asbestos litigation on the plaintiff side. So many of our clients died from mesothelioma often before their lawsuit came to a conclusion. The idea that anybody would make this asinine comment... well look at the idiot we're talking about and look at the idiots that are believing him. Asbestos exposure has been known to be deadly for 100 years. It wasn't some insane mob conspiracy to force developers to hire abatement subcontractors. This is yet another example of how myopic he is in his self interest. I didn't think my capacity for disgust could increase at this point but he just proved me wrong.

"Apparently asbestos denial is Russia's climate change denial.

>Trump dismisses the scientific evidence of harm caused by asbestos, claiming that asbestos is "100 percent safe, once applied" and that "the movement against asbestos was led by the mob."

>Russia is by far the biggest producer and exporter of asbestos in the world and the Russian government is waging an aggressive campaign to continue shipping asbestos to countries in the global South, particularly Asia.

>Russia is also leading efforts to block the listing of chrysotile asbestos as a hazardous substance at United Nations Rotterdam Convention meetings. Chrysotile asbestos represents 100% of the global asbestos trade.

Trump's support for asbestos will be greatly welcomed by the Russian government and the Russian asbestos industry.

I just googled "Russia asbestos" as evidence, but denying the dangers of asbestos is Russia's version of climate change denial. Here are several more sources.

These are the same morons that would work for $12 per hour cleaning up asbestos using home depot dust masks only.
