A 12-foot-6-inch alligator killed a woman who was walking her dogs Friday -- and investigators recovered one of her arms from inside the reptile. The woman was identified as Shizuka Matsuki, 47, of Plantation, said Officer Ronald Washington of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission from the scene of the attack in Davie. Matsuki was walking her dogs near the water in the Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park when she vanished, Davie Police Maj. Dale Engle said

People feed gators, then when someone doesn't feed a gator that is used to being fed and walks away from them, they get very upset. I've been within a few feet of one of those, and the roaring hiss they make isn't any fun to hear that close.

Also caught a couple feeding that same gator. Don't think they'll ever do that again.

Sounds like the dogs were okay

Keep away from gators. They are predators and they are not picky about what they eat. About the only thing they will not attack is something bigger than they are, most the time. A 12 foot gator weighs about 700 pounds, good luck if they get a'hold of ya. They have been around for 300 million years, survived 3 major extinction events, and are going strong. Anyone feeding one of these things should be subject to jail. Anyone throwing the leftovers from cleaning fish into water near where people live should get fined. Gators are not stupid, they go to where the food is. They are especially fond of small dogs and cats.

What a horrible incident. Why was she walking dogs near the water?! She obviously underestimated how swamp predators constantly hunt for small animals above the surface and was basically fishing for death. Her dogs probably moved much faster than she did - I can imagine she may have froze in fear. Their gurgle and hiss is terrifying.

It probably would have only taken one close interaction to keep her away from the shore for the rest of her life - she obviously had no experience with alligators whatsoever.

Import some Cajuns, they'll keep those gators thinned out

I've lived in Florida most of my life, you don't go near lakes and canals at night without looking to see if there are gators. Also snakes. I really am sorry for this lady but, if I had to guess, she is from elsewhere and wasn't really a Floridian. This would never happen to a real Floridian unless, which is quite possible, that Floridian was drunk.

Noles, I sometimes wonder if the gator has a taste for Floridian or if it has more a desire for alcohol? Drunk Gators? U of F.

I've eaten alligator a number of times. When it's fresh it tastes like fish. Not so fresh it tastes like chicken.

#4 | POSTED BY BRUCEAZ AT 2018-06-08 08:25 PM | REPLY | FUNNY: 1: Actually, back in the 80s in a top drawer restaurant, The Castle [in Leicester, MA] one of the appetizers was grilled alligator tail [the meat] topped with Béarnaise sauce, and it was quite tasty. Looking on line I see that the restaurant is still there and wish we lived closer as the three times we dined there [while on ski trips tp NH and VT] were some of the best fine dining I've ever had in the states.

ps: There wine list was awesome as the sommelier traveled the world to select for their cellar.

Park lore, according to Gonzalez, was that the large gator was treated by other visitors as a mascot, of sort. They sabotaged traps set to catch it, she said.

Anyone who is proven to have ------------, should be charged with manslaughter.

And don't feed the alligators or any wildlife. People try to "humanize" animals too much...
