Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Charles P. Pierce: The New York Times had a story on Friday that should've brought shame and derision upon anyone who voted for the racist monster in the White House, and upon the racist monster that the other racist monster installed at the head of the Department of Justice. The United States government is now committing human rights atrocities within its own borders and against the most vulnerable people it can find. I don't need to "understand," much less take seriously, anyone who still supports this president* and his administration* because, if you do, you've taken the idea of America and run battery acid through its veins.

An American government escort handed over the 5-year-old child, identified on his travel documents as José, to the American woman whose family was entrusted with caring for him. He refused to take her hand. He did not cry. He was silent on the ride "home." The first few nights, he cried himself to sleep. Then it turned into "just moaning and moaning," said Janice, his foster mother. He recently slept through the night for the first time, though he still insists on tucking the family pictures under his pillow.

José's separation from his father is part of the Trump administration's latest and most widely debated border enforcement policy. Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the government would criminally prosecute everyone who crosses the border illegally, a directive that is already leading to the breakup of hundreds of migrant families and channeling children into shelters and foster homes across the country.

this is the antebellum south rewrit in the 21st century. people who would do this would damn sure sell your children down south if they could. this isn't a political issue.

Only a racist inbred who pulled on his ears as a child would need to separate little children from their parents under force.

I'm ashamed to call my self an American today. The world is watching in disgust.

The Trump administration has moved INS officials onto the bridge so that the refugees seeking asylum cannot enter the USA to claim asylum. They are sabotaging the intent of the law and effectively rewriting law. It is US policy of installing vicious right wing police States in Central American which has led to this migration, just as NAFTA earlier led to the bankruptcy and migration of 5 million corn farmers from Mexico.

Keep in mind US Family Courts do the same thing every day. Anything a mother says is assumed to be correct and acted on by Child Support Services, prior to any investigation of facts. Anything a father says doesn't really matter, unless the charge is drug addiction, and then hard evidence is required to initiate action by the Courts.

I would encourage anyone, when speaking to America's immigration policies, to have a look at immigration policies in European & UK countries, for example Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Sweden etc. What you will find are policies which make it extremely difficult for migration into them. You will also find, in many of them, where Caucasians make up 85% and above of their respective population densities.

IOW's, America is far ahead of other Western countries when it comes to immigration policies and the process it takes to become a citizen. I'll go ahead and state the obvious. They've had quite a bit more time than America to allow the immigration & assimilation of other cultures into their societies. It seems their answer to this, in some countries, was to just open up the borders and say 'come on in'. I believe we've witnessed how this may not have been the best way to go about it.

And, as much as I don't like doing the, 'well what about when so and so did this?'. I have to wonder how many here showed the same outrage when we all saw the disturbing picture of Elian Gonzales taken from his uncle's arms at gun point? Excuse me, at 'assault rifle' point.

Did someone say Elian?

Looks like Trump's border policy to me. Well, except for the indefinite detention in a cage.

And herein lies the problem for some when it comes to American policies, foreign & domestic.

A president can do little with written & decided American policies, other than add to or alter them in slight ways, which is no easy task in most cases. Other than that, they must, by law & their oath taken, enforce the policies that have been put in place & have evolved over the years. Assigning immigration, oil & energy policies etc. to any particular president is ignorant at best. I say at best because intellectual dishonesty & the like, are akin to lying. Simply being uninformed or not knowing something is excusable.

That's just dumb, the Executive has considerable discretion over immigration policy.

Well, that explains that hundreds miles long wall we have on our southern border, the ban on Muslims immigrating to America....Oh, wait. You must be speaking of the illegal & irresponsible opening of our borders under Obama.

The parents should not be coming here with children if it is only for economic reasons. If the claim is they need asylum why not stay in Mexico with their children?

"The parents should not be coming here with children if it is only for economic reasons."

Uh huh. So, when they do come here for economic reasons, should their families be broken apart?

I don't know a single person, no matter how right-wing, who supports tearing families apart at the border. Apparently ------------- hide that sort of cruelty for the internet.

Separating families is against natural law, JEFF. Trying to trivialize it only makes it worse.

It's perfectly in line with "Conservative" behavioral norms, though.

Pro-family...until the family is Mexican/Latino/black.

Pro-life...until the kid is born.

Pro-religious freedom...until the religion is anything but Christianity.

Pro-welfare...until the recipient is one of "those people".

You referring to those photos of immigrants in cages from the Obama administration?

Favreau said in a series of tweets that he made a "mistake" by not checking the date of the photos before sharing them on Twitter. He explained that the photos were taken in 2014, when the Obama administration faced "an influx of unaccompanied minors who showed up at the border, fleeing violence from Central America."

He added that the pictures had been taken while the government was trying to "move those children out of those shelters as fast as humanly possible and connect them with their parents, most of whom were already in the United States."

Another former Obama official, Cecilia Muñoz, who served as the director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, offered a similar explanation to NPR on Tuesday.

"In 2014, we saw an enormous spike compared to what usually happens every year, in the number of kids crossing alone into the United States," she said. "And we didn't have enough shelter facilities, because we had a huge increase, so kids ended up piling up in Border Patrol lock-ups, which are no places for children."

She continued:

"What the Obama administration did, which is what the law requires, is to find shelter facilities for those kids, which were put together by the Department of Health and Human Services. So the goal was to get kids out of the Border Patrol, into proper care by HHS, and then HHS is supposed to release them to the least restrictive setting, and in more than 80% of the cases, that was their parents who were already in the United States."

speaking of Drama....

Remember when Obama thanked Satan in his acceptance speech?

Or when Obama plotted to cancel the 2014 Midterm and/or 2016 Elections?

Or when Obama threatened to kill Chelsea Clinton?

Or remember when Obama ordered three nuclear weapons detonated "to devastate all computer related systems on the continent thus taking America back 200 years and guaranteeing a total breakdown in society and with in one year the death of 300 million Americans."?

Remember when Obama had a huge long scar on his head? (And is that why we can't see his birth certificate?) remember when that a long mark running down the president's head was not just an oddity, but a scar left over from brain surgery that replaced his cranial plates and implanted him with now "misfiring" circuitry – the proof of which is found in his verbal tic of a slight stammer?

Remember when Obama was the Biggest Golfer in Presidential History!?

Yup. Those were the days my friends... we thought they'd never end.

Unfortunately...They did.

Now we can finally do all those things weird evil things that Obama never actually did.

Some of them explicitly support it as a terror tactic. "This will keep them away from the border.."
